Damn, I didn't even know the UK got tornadoes... btw you guys should see the shit we get in the United States. Hurricanes, flash floods, powerful tornadoes, droughts, dust storms, fires, extreme blizzards, earthquakes, volcanoes, lightning storms, tsunamis and hailstorms are all very common in our weather.
Hi, would you be interested in letting me use this footage for my documentary I'm making for college about uk severe weather, please get back to me I'm desperate for footage cheers. email- fallenskyeluke@aol.com
What a remarkable sight. Often tornadoes in the UK are at sea or along the coast. Twisters formed over land in UK are quite small, not extremely destructive and never monstrous. We dunno what the climate will bring in the future though.
What the Good Book says is meaningless. The UK isn't a tornado hotspot. The figure per unit of landmass is skewed by the UK's small area.
To illustrate this, if Singapore had just one tornado per year, it would be ahead of the UK. at one per 710km2 . One every ten years would still put Singapore in front of the UK based on land mass. That would not make it a hotspot.
The USA is a huge country but most of it probably never sees a tornado, hence its lower activity per km2 of land mass.
How is he an embarrassment JonnyE, you cock!, he made the effort to upload his video. The spelling of your name is incorrect if anything your mother should of taken less crack when giving birth to you. Then again i don't blame her.
Most stupid thing I've ever read. The UK barely gets tornadoes. And when they do, they're F1s at best. Tornado Capital is most likely Central USA, known as 'Tornado Alley'. South Dakota down to Texas (And sometimes North Dakota and parts of Canada).
As for the Guinness book of records, they recite Oklahoma, USA, as the record, nothing mentioned of the UK.
Sorry, but you are just entirely wrong. Find me one piece of evidence ONLINE that UK is Tornado Capital. You cannot, because it's about as true as Siberia being a nice sunny holiday resort.
Check your facts before you make shit up and post it online. You're just poorly educating others making up your own crap.
it is based on land mass, if the U.K was as big as the USA the U.K would have more than the US, it's not my 'own crap' it was in a factual book so fuck you
and type uk worlds tornado capital and you will find stuff
@StadiumHot here is what it says in guiness world records... 'incredibly, the UK is the world's tornado hotspot, hit by a record of one tornado per 7,397km2 (2,856 mile2), The equivalent figure for the USA is one tornado per 8,663km2 (3,345).'
The Fatality rate in the UK from Tornadoes is pretty much 0. The strongest Tornadoes are pretty much eF1s or eF2s.
The Tornado in Joplin, Missouri 2 weeks ago inspired me to respond. A mile-wide eF5 Tornado killed 140 people. I think we can all safely agree that people in England are very safe and people in the Middle of USA are not as safe.
Search 'ef5 joplin mo tornado' for a real tornado.
@StadiumHot Yep, I'm from the UK and love tornadoes, I wish we did get to see as many tornadoes as that world record would imply.
There might be a higher chance of seeing them in the UK, in comparison to the entire land mass of the USA, but they're rarely spotted and very rarely grow into the long lived monsters in Tornado Alley. I'd love to see one of those long lived F2+ tornadoes here, as long as they were out in an open field. I wouldn't like the weather there the rest of the year though!
it amazes me that on nearly every video, there is someone being negative to someone else, I don't get it? Why comment if you've got nothing nice to say. "Speak properly next time. You're an embarrassment to the Uk." As an example. Get a life or maybe just grow up? Either is good :) Okay? thanks.
I love how everyone says 'speak properly you're an embarrassment to the UK' when all he said was "bloody hell", and sorry to break it to you guys, but we're very well reknowned for saying "bloody hell", so there is nothing unexpected or embarrassing here.
The Enhanced Fujita Scale or EF scale rates tornadoes from EF0 to EF5 based on the severity of damage they do. An EF0 causes light damage or no damage at all.
I dare to say I am thrilled to find a footage of a tornado in the UK, however, I didn't expect it with the remarkable, typical english dull emotion: 'Oh, It's a tornado. Bloody hell.'
I guess that's the proof that the twister did hit an english county. Right?
@hypo12345678910 London does get them, there was one in kensal rise. I know as I learnt it as a hazard risk in my geography as at college... London is prone to them because of cold fronts form then north
This looks like the same tornado we saw. I have posted our video titled Tornado in South Devon 2007. We first noticed a small double corkscrew appearing in the clouds above us as two storm clouds collided. This corkscrew at the base of the cloud grew and then shrunk in a repeated fashion for about ten minutes. Suddenly we noticed a tornado hitting ground some miles away. There was also a violent hail storm reported by people who were down near Slapton Sands at the time.
Thats a rare sight in the UK for a tornado. I don't think there's ever even been an F5 (T5 in UK) ever recorded there. The USA is the Tornado hotspot.
While the United Kingdom has more reported tornadoes, relative to its land area, than any other country excluding the Netherlands, the vast majority are weak. The strongest recorded tornado in the country struck Portsmouth on December 14, 1810 with a T8 (F4) rating and a top wind speed of 213 to 240 mph.
We actually get more tornadoes per square mile than anywhere else in the world, but they are so small they're hardly scary and to be honest entertaining to watch. The most our tornadoes can do are chuck cars and tear off a few roofs, not severely flatten a whole area. A big majority of them don't even touch down, and are just funnel clouds.
wow, I was on holiday over there back then, we were away that day so we missed it but we heard the tornado was only about 5 miles away from our campsite.
Yeah, i'm sure it was, idiot. Oh and by the way we don't rate it in F's over here, we rate it in the scale of T0 to T5, and our scale is far weaker compared to the US one.

Typical British response" Bloody Hell" which means put that kettle on for a cup of tea. Now if it was an American witness they would of evacuated, called Air Force One and gone to Defcon level 2.
"Britain is the tornado capital of the world. It has more tornadoes per square mile than any other country in the world. Luckily for us, our tornadoes are usually smaller than those reported in places such as "Tornado Alley" in the United States, where tornadoes are so huge that the US is often mistakenly believed by people to be the world's tornado capital. But even Tornado Alley has less tornadoes than Britain."
Yes i agree they occur less often but are brutal but if u get them a lot then it's worthy of the title glad i don't live near either tornados are scary
fake or not they are not exatly very enthused about the evnt are they? If I saw one live I'd be crapping myself with excitement not "oh look theres a tornadoe"
UK has more tornados per sq.mile than the USA every year but seeing the UK is so small we dont see as many, That was a real tornado and there was a bigger funnel in Lancashire a few weeks back, not to mention the one in Birmingham which did much damage last year.
can i ask how is this fake? how du i ny of the twats out ther assume this is fake? idk wot u hav 2 du 2 proove its not fake b t thers a website, it was reported in the news in devon and even by looking at it u can tell its not fake. wot the hell r ppl talkin bout?
TheAdum you are an idiot of the highest order. You know nothing about weather so shut up and leave the pros to it. Your above comment is dangerous and misleading garbage of the highest order. The video clearly shows a tornado probably a T1 which means that its blowing at about 80 mph which is more than enough to cause carnage. You are talking about a dust devil which is a very different kettle of fish to this very obvious tornado. ANyone who thinks otherwise is just being a contentious asshole.
The Adum, you are a prat, every year there is damage due to British tornadoes and this could easily have been one of them if it hit a town! Don't comment unless you know what you are bloody on about you prat!
Damn, I didn't even know the UK got tornadoes... btw you guys should see the shit we get in the United States. yeh, but, alansarahdod, we see loads of tornadoes. as rik7467 said, britain is the tornado capital of the world.

UK has more tornados per sq.mile than the USA every year but seeing the UK is so small we dont see as many, That was a real tornado and there was a bigger funnel in Lancashire a few weeks back, not to mention the one in Birmingham which did much damage last year.

ANyone who thinks otherwise is just being a contentious asshole.

haha noice use of the phrase "very different kettle of fish"

Quite common in the UK but mostly very small and out in the countryside away from towns and cities, but still fascinating.
veryverybadwolf 4 years ago
It's actually a Vortex. A type of twister but with very slow wind speeds, and doesn't move.
Not even the slightlest bit dangerous and are very common in the UK.
TheAdum 4 years ago
The Adum, you are a prat, every year there is damage due to British tornadoes and this could easily have been one of them if it hit a town! Don't comment unless you know what you are bloody on about you prat!
