  • The Queers have done a cover of this too!

  • I can listen to this song over and over..

  • They Might Be Giants did a cover of this song on their podcast.

  • I enjoy this song. Oh yea-uh.

  • nothing compared with the shit our kids are watching nowadays...thanks banana, your acid tunes for kiddies are priceless, you are legendary!!!

  • Best bubblegum pop song evah! Joey Levine slays me with his "oh yay-uh"s every time!

  • I wish they would put some of these songs on I Tunes.

  • GARAGEEE , FUZZ AND BANANAS ...

  • i have both 45 rpm records! Had em since i was 5 yrs old & they are still in fairly good shape.

Recently cleaned them up & converted them to mp3 format.

This song was always my favorite.

    Anyone remember The Beautiful Calliopa?

  • smgglr, i still have both of mine.....had 'em since i was 5 yrs old. They're still playable too! Recorded them to my PC & cleaned the noise up & they sound like new.

    This song was my favorite.

  • This was one of the songs we had the two 45's we have from The Banana Splits...

anyone else out there have the 45's?

    Two songs on each side...

    ;o)

  • I LOVE JOEY LEVINE

  • these types of songs remind me of the 60's so much. especially Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. this music rocks. especially when im racing on the freeway. LOL.

  • for a thrown together studio band this is really, really good. and the banana splits are always awesome.

  • Whooah............. well trippy!!

  • Psychedelia for children lol

  • @LandofLostMinds

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  • TV circa 1968.

  • this was made back in 1968

  • Leave it to the power of the Internet, to bring back a childhood memory, I don't think I ve heard this song in 40 years.

  • Oh yay-uh.

  • Love this tune! Eswpecially since it's got Joey Levine singing the leads!

  • Cucumber castle?

  • I wonder who really sang and wrote this?

  • I'm not sure who wrote "I enjoy being a boy" but I know it's Joey Levine singing the lead vocals. I think he also co-wrote the song. You may remember Joey Levine's nasally voice on a number of bubblegum songs, including "Yummy Yummy Yummy," "Chewy Chewy", "Run Run Run", "Quick Joey Small","Life is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)", and almost everything by The Ohio Express and The Third Rail. These days he's a successful commercial jingle writer.

  • Cranberry and Cucumbers....thanks for the info..I love Yummy, Chewy and will research the rest...bubblegum songs are the TOPS.

  • Right on! Bubblegum music is the best! In case you're interested, The Banana Splits Theme (The Tra-La-La Song) was written and recorded by Ritchie Adams and Mark Barkan who wrote many bubblegum songs for different artists to record, including a bunch of songs fot The Archies. They did not, however, write "Sugar Sugar" or "Jingle Jangle". Those two songs wre written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim. Yes, the same Andy Kim who sang "Rock Me Gently"!

  • The title of the song is "I Enjoy Being A Boy". It rocks.

  • this song version was edited in the chorus to fit in with the episode . you can hear the difference if you have the LP

  • I love watching Banana Splits. Its so surreal.

  • Antycops is Right!

    The Queers Rock.

  • Oh man, after all the sugar we ate as kids in our cereals, this was a blessing to watch during our SUGAR HIGH. Ahh fond memories. It was like acid to us kids in the 70's

  • I thought acid was the acid to you kids in the 70's....

  • ACTUALLY, it was Pixy Stix. They were OUR ACID!

  • what?, you think 10 year olds were taking acid?

  • the queers version is great

  • "Oh YeaH, I live in a cucumber vessel on a bank of a crumberry sea"....whatta beauty!!! ahaha

  • It's "cucumber castle" which is the title of a song from the first Bee Gees album and the title of their seventh album. :)

  • Oh Thanks!!;) That'sdefinitely my fav Banana splits song!!!

  • They Might Be Giants do an amazing cover of this song.

  • AMEN, see my lipsynch of it.

  • Kids shows today can never match this. So many good memories!

  • So that's the tune I had running through my head!

I really need to find something to put in there to catch such catchy tunes on their way through.

  • this sounds like a track monkees "head".

  • where is the queers ' version ???

  • These days pretty well all bands are manufactured by the record industry back in the 60's there was a lot of stigma attached to being a "fake" band..as for the Banana Splits they really were something different in 1968 and aimed at kids.

  • great song. Wait Until Tomorrow was filmed in San Francisco. Anyone has that video clip?

  • all I can say is that when this came out, I was ten years old. I'm fifty now and I still think I've had one hit too many of something strong...

I do so enjoy being a boy....

    The Splits still rule...!

  • Did anyone else hear the punk band the Queers version on their album "Punk Rock Confidential"?

  • The song as heard on the EP is about 2:25, but they felt they had to chop it down to a hair under 2 minutes? For all those kids with ADD hopped up on Kellogg's cereal with that extra added sugar, no doubt!!!

  • Haha... no such thing as ADD back then... just crazy kids in their PJ's wired on Capn Crunch :)

  • Nothing like a psychedelic Saturday morning bubblegum tune!!

  • I'm sorry, but it just makes me sick seeing how the rest of the band carried Snorky....

  • dude be cool snorky had a mutha habit on his back

he OD'ed rip snorky snif snif waaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!

  • i just saw this on tv i had the 45 record with this song and a few others. not bad for a fake band. this show is fun.

  • Brings back memories of actual records printed on the backs of cereal boxes!

  • Oh my God, I remember those...seems they were square records, too. Hmm...

  • Damn straight! I rmbr records on cereal boxes.

  • i watched this ealier this morning.

    trippy

  • Oh come on man!Bingo is out of tune!!!

  • woahhh i so remember this!

this was the best i always used to watch it..

  • this is soo good, I cant believe I used to watch this stuff, NOW I realize what is wrong with me....TV really is bad for you

  • Me 2 girl!!! " v

  • Children today need to take more LSD.

  • we all do , lol - chill the world out a bit.

  • @PatOShea I always wondered what was in my Lucky charms!

  • @PatOShea Not kids...the TV producers! Cid and Marty Craft were really into this "world" of Tv. Just look at HR Puff&Stuff!

  • Oh, this is amazing! The 60s psychedelic band Giant Crab did a good version of this song on their A GIANT CRAB COMES FORTH album.

  • Did the TV execs think we were tripping at 10 years old? Or maybe this wasn't for kids...

  • Hey, they are not really playing. Cheaters.

  • This song was covered by the punk band The Queers on their album Punk Rock Confidential. It 's pretty faithful to the original with a punk rock feel to it, of course. It's worth a listen.

  • I too loved this song when i was kid. Had it on a 45 from a cereal box.

  • I remember when cerial companies would put paper records on the back of their packages. This was popular during the 70's; as most of us in our Teens has a Phonograph to play it on. It is almost impossible for them to do that today, cause we now use CD players for our music.

  • Actually, it'd be pretty easy. I got a mini-DVD with a box of Prilosec! It was a bunch of NFL game footage... but companies could easily put out CDs or mini-CDs in packages.

  • @Briben57 CD's? nah - MP3's. Cerial companies could put those in the box in a little bit of plastic wrap.

  • The Banana Splits, H.R. Pufunstuf, The Electric Company were great live action kids shows of the late 60's and 70's.

  • No they are not.The plan to put them on dvd has been cancelled by those pricks at turner.

  • The masters are supposed to be too corrupt.

  • Are the Banana Splits available on DVD? Would save a ton on acid. ^_~

  • this is the greatest song in the history of the universe, all other songs are now garbage and unlistenable.

  • yeah fantastic! I am working on covering this beautiful song... It is one of my favourite songs since I was a child. I grew up watching the banana splits show. Thanks for sharing

  • if im not mistaken, the late Joey Ramone sed this was his fave group of all time.

  • i knew he was a genius

  • So could this be the inspiration then for "I Wanna be your Boyfried?"

  • I remember a radio interview with Michael Stipe of REM going on and on about this particular song. And of course they have made the comment... somewhat tongue in cheek about how the Banana Splits were more influencial to them than the Beatles. Hey... how about posting I'd Be A Millionaire????

  • What else can you say about this song and this programme? All the superlatives in the world wouldnt do it justice. Just the best ever. I pity kids nowadays growing up with shite like Dragonball Z and more instantly forgettable rubbish of that genre.

  • Thanks for posting!

Does anyone have "Wait Till Tomorrow"?

  • Groovy!

  • I love it. Please put more of The Banana Splits music videos.

  • cute :)
