@SockbatReplica Todd Rittmann's E and A strings are down-tuned quite a bit. This allows him to provide a bass and mid-range to their sound, while his D,G,B and E strings are tuned the same as Shippy's guitar, which I believe is standard. I've been planning on covering one of their songs for a while now, so I'll confirm precise tuning when I find out.
@SockbatReplica standard E tuning, I believe. They don't use open tunings or D tunings as far as I can tell.
The sound on this video is kind of bad cause the sound guy had Al's vocals turned down real low, barely audible sometimes, and if you notice you can barely hear Mark's guitar. At one point, I think, Al threw his mike stand down in frustration at not hearing his vocals.
Yes, it's Thymme Jones. This is the only one time appearance where he played drums that i know of. It was at the end of Adam Vida's first show, and he only played one song, 'State is Bad'.
Alan started the show with a pink bathrobe, then a wife beater, and ended the show in a t-shirt. Most of the vocals are very low at this show. (?)
@SWISSCOLORVISION i think thymme might have filled in on drums in between drummers, at least a few shows - maybe just on tour, so maybe it was only out of state. that is how i KIND OF remember it, at least.
@joneshiro you're probably right. It must have been out of state, cause Maple only played like once or twice a year in Chicago, and I think I caught all their shows. This was Adam's first show as drummer, so maybe he didn't learn this song yet. I remember Adam was extremely nervous, but he fit right in. Pat was more of jazz drummer, he really hit right on beat or would slice it to shreds; and when Adam joined he would let the band fall apart, and then clean up the mess.
@SWISSCOLORVISION yeah.. unfortunately i didn't catch them very often as they weren't playing very often. towards the end, i mean. i definitely wasn't at that show.

This was Empty Bottle Chicago in December 2001. The other shows I shot were either at Empty Bottle or Abbey Pub 02'-'03.
