@GothicPaganGirl The growls come from a gothic metal influence they got into later on. Personally, I don't have anything against the growls and quite enjoy them. However, I will admit that they are an acquired taste. I myself used to hate them, and still do hate a lot of people who attempt them (I refuse to listen to the trash 'core' genre's of metal who use them just trying to be 'brutal'). Of course, the growls he uses here aren't even really that heavy.

Continued... he sounds more like a, I guess you could say more growl-oriented version of Carl McCoy (Fields of the Nephilim) than anything. Still, acquired taste and all, but these growls are very mild compared to a lot of stuff that is out there.

But then a decent amount of the heavier gothic metal bands were influenced by black metal so that might have had some influence on him? Who knows. Anyway, my overall point was just perspective. I like the song as is, and think it'd probably be good if he had done clean vocals instead. Perhaps better, yes.
