@tide32athlete That proves the wisdom of Romania's programme, they always fix routines that the girls nail (at least in those days). And they go back home packed with medals...
Speaking of Latvia, I know that Natalia Laschenova retired in 1991, I think, due to numerous injuries, but after the Soviet breakup, she could have competed for Latvia, because I'm sure she would have been the star on the Latvian team.
@ferency98 not really...she wanted to compete at the 1992 olympics but the Unified Team didn't consist of the Baltic States due to paperwork not completed by the governments. So She and another gymnast couldn't compete for the unified team...otherwise Laschenova would have been a lock due to her favoritism among the judges. Latvia was not present at the 92 games. Then she retired in 1992.
WOW! I was impressed too. I had never eardf of her before, but this routine was awesome. Maybe she suffered some injuries and disappeared from the competitive scene?
she competed for USSR in the 90's...some vids are on here of her at Soviet Nationals. its a shame we lost Laschenova due to the breakup, but this girl stuck around a bit...
Maybe it's something in the Latvian water they drink, as Natalia Laschenova (Latvia/USSR) also had amazing laid-out sommies on beam. By the way, if Lavinia Milosovici earned a Gold medal for her beam, then Ludmilla Prince should have won Silver over Dawes and Gogean. Ludmilla had the classic Soviet style, originality, form, and she didn't wobble nearly ten times in her routine like Lavinia Milosovic did.
@ferency98 I agree. This routine is far superior. The only obvious fault I saw was the break on her layout - layout series and even then she didn't break at the hips.
I've seen a video of her training, in her gym back home.. I think she was training for these worlds.. same routine..

It's a shame she didn't nail this routine a little better. Would love to have seen this routine win over Milo's cookie cutter routine.

I hate the camera angle here. You can't see her leaps.
She was great, though!
