  • God bless you James Connolly, may you rest in peace.

  • REAL IRISHMEN.NOT CATH OR PROD,TOGETHER GREEN WHITE AND ORANGE.WE LOVE U JAMES CONNOLLY

  • Why did this heroic man have to die? History puzzles me.

  • Why did this heroic man have to die?

  • God love you James! What sort of country would we have, had De Valera taken your place?? Gombeanism?? I think not!! RIP a chara!!

  • a true socalist hero ,,,rebel

  • John Lennon actually indicated on Dick Cavett, I think it was, that he was inspired by James Connolly. He wrote "Woman Is The Niger Of The World" based upon Connolly's writings indicating same. In the prison the women were treated twice as badly as men/not even given beds/ slept on the floor, etc. Connolly was already dying of wounds from the Easter Rising and only had a day or 2 to live but they strapped him to a chair and executed him anyway. Horrible. He was a true hero!

  • there are many involved in the 1916 uprising

  • ah wish that it was a british soilder who said the poem. unfortunately not. many more were executed

  • The Brits are a bunch of pussies and cowards, thats the reason why they were soo cruel, brutal, ruthless and ferocious towards the Irish because they are intimidated by the Irish. Ireland and Northern Ireland belongs to the Irish and the Irish only!!!

  • @RJHOLMES2009 Thats true it does belong to the Irish but a majority of us Irish in the North dont want to join the republic

  • @sandyrow100 That's cause you're english at heart, not irish, why don't you go over and join your own and leave us our own country?

  • @Kydos37 it is just as much my country as yours, my ancesters lost land in the plantations, I am sure as hell not having anyone yell me to leave just because I am not a brainless republican

  • Is it true the poem at the start was really written by the Brit soildier who shot him?

  • he is not gone he is in our hearts n it people like him is why the irish people have so much heart and spirit each time the brits take 1 away we get stronger there spirit is in us all god bless IRELAND

  • @hippiegirl25 if he is so much in peoples hearts why did people create the Workers republic he wanted. Without it he said that all that will change is the accent of the ruling class and the color of the flag, he was so right

  • @sandyrow100 ok u stay under british rule then thats ok but dont try belittle ne 1 who wonts a republic and dont pretend u know everytin if u were irish ud understand now dont reply to this saying ur irish if u were u wouldnt say half the thing u say so good luck wit everytin have a wonderful life and ne 1 who says there loyal to the qeen can be irish seriously tho we could go on all forever about it peace

  • @hippiegirl25 The thing is people outside the north dont understand us either. Many Southern Catholics look on Northern Catholics as almost as a different breed. My so called loyalty to the Queen relates only so far as I do not intend to commit an act of treason, otherwise I am a republican, just not one that views the state that the republic has become as favourable. Certainly I have never heard or seen the Queen or british primeminister rat arsed

  • Under Irish Law and his own mind...I think you'll find he's an Irishman!

  • @LRFCBulldozer dont quite see how irish law comes into it since it was several years after his death that Ireland was able to create laws

  • James Connolly was a true socialist,

He was a scotsman, of irish parents.

He beleived in an Irish republic.

He also warned the 1916 republicans if they did not change their idiology , the only change would be that they would be ruled by Irish , instead of English masters.

We now know that is what happened.

That is why the so-called Rep of Ireland, is in the state it is in to-day.

  • @taffy64 so far you are the only one I have found who states the reality of Ireland and now the people will have to pay for the mishandling of the economy. Ireland was robbed of the workers republic.

  • i dont belive in war and fighting but i hope when i older i can be like martin uther king but save ireland from my home land england cause we all need free dom plus why let all the other couty free from are rein i want to know why not ireland

  • nearly 100 years later , we need another man of his character , a true irish man , a hero

  • RIP Seamus, rip....one of the greatest men to ever live, tiocaidh ar la, he who was shot 2 times raising the flag over the GPO

  • @BloodofErin1798

    michael collins wasn't bad either!

  • Never forget 1916!

  • hes my hero...

  • the workers hero

the bourgeois press and politicians incessantly strive to inflame the working class mind to fever heat apon questions outside the range of ther own class intrests. war, religion, race, language, political reform, patriotisim, - all serve in the hands of the possessing class as counter-irritants

  • All Hail the Socialist Republic.

  • a true internationalist socialist and one of the great leader of worker in irish history.

  • A true Edinburgh man. A true Irishhman and a true socialist. God Bless.

  • God Bless you James Connolly.

  • well said and may he never be forgot.godbless and up the united irishmen.

  • socialism = democracy =)! Long live the future Irish socialist republic.

  • No....Not a Socialist Republic, a Democratic Republic. Don't infect Ireland with that socialism garbage. Ireland has a strong economy. Now is not the time to weaken it.

  • @trifecta124 I thought you might like to reflect on your comments of 2 years ago when yet again Ireland's credit rating has been reduced and the economically inactive/unempluyes runs at 20%. Why do people like you see socialism and democracy as incompatible? I think you have listened to the church too long

  • @sandyrow1 00Democracyand socialism are not incompatible. Neither are socialism and Christianity incompatible. In fact looking out for the welfare of the poor is a Christian virtue. If anything western liberal democracy and Christianity are less compatible than Christianity and socialism. In some countries large family's and extended family live together, eat together, put their money together for business ventures and go to Church or Mosque together. What is that if not socialism?

  • @AlexanderE81 I have never viewed socialism and christianity as incompatible. I just dont like the type of christianity that dominated the Republic for most of existance. When the state and its organs fails to protect the innocent poor but at the same time covers up the birth of illegitame babies to the children of the rich and influential I consider this beahiour as bad as any dictatorship

  • @sandyrow100 The problem with the Latin Church is that they sometimes confuse the kingdom of man with the kingdom of God. This happened in Russia too before the revolution. If were referring to the cases of child molestation I would say that the Latin Church needs to drop its prohibition on married clergymen. The Orthodox Church allows married men to become priests and all though you will get some bad apples it's nothing like the problems in the Roman Catholic Church where celebacy is a must.

  • @AlexanderE81 The question of married priests shows the hypocrisy of the Roman Catholicism. After the Ukraine was captured by the poles they coerced Eastern Orthodox Christains to accept the Pope as their spiritual head. As they had married priests they had to let this continue to this day, Just as Maronite Christians do. Even the RC church allowed priests to marry until the 15th century. The trouble with western churches they are all based on St Paul (who never met Jesus) & Roman influence.

  • @sandyrow100 I think the Church definitely has it's place in society and the Roman Catholic Church has done a lot of good things over the centuries as has the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Church has a duty to speak out on social issues on the political scene but other than that it should render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's. That's as much for the Church's sake then for the government's sake. Otherwise the Church opens itself up to scandal that's usually reserved for politicians.

  • james connoly edinburgh hero.

  • TAL Mo Chara.

  • as a 20 year old yank.. its understandeble that you you dont get history..

  • yourwelcome

  • this song is awsome james connolly greatest bravest irishmean that ever lived him along with Mr Pearse,Mr mac diarmda Mr collins and Mr.Clark of that era they changed the course of history in that great nation forever thank u guys

  • Great Video, Great Man. God Bless the man. Know how i could possibly get my hands on that version of James Connolly....haha...I rather like it?:D

  • yeah i could send it to you via email

  • Its also in the earlier albums before Derek left the group.

  • No Connolly, No Ireland. thx

  • Best song that has ever been written

  • Personally, while a great man, I consider Pearse more of a nationalist. Connolly was a 'lover of the poor' and more of an internationalist. Had he been the correct age and alive, I think it would be easy to imagine Connolly leading the International Brigades into battle.

Just a personal opionion though, don't want to deminish any Irish Republican.

  • Padraic Pearse was the greatest Irishman ever lived....but we must never forget the sacrifices of all the brave Soldiers of Ireland who gave there lives for our freedom.

  • iam english but they were all brave men and must always be remember.iam not british english with irish roots.up the celts and green white and orange

  • I don't like to compare Republicans or Irishmen, but I have to be honest, not only was he imo, the greatest Republican ever, but he was the greatest Irishman, and greatest man born in Scotland ever.

"The British government has no right in Ireland, never had any right in Ireland, and never can have any right in Ireland, the presence, in any one generation of Irish men, or even a respectable minority ready to die, to affirm that truth"

    Thank you Mr Connolly

  • About time someone uploaded this version thanks alot ma man, This has tae be the best version of this great song.
