  • "My dad and I share the same shadow" - isnt that a metaphor he just used?

  • so bad his father has to carry shadow alone now

  • rip kim

  • unconditional love

  • i burst in to tears when the father said , "he cant reason but the profound thing he said that we share the same shadow, he hit that one right on the button" , awesome!

  • im amazed by his father what an amazing person!!!

  • I don´t think it is that he cannot reason. Because his brain structure is different is very hard to survive for very long under such physical conditions. Probably that´s the only thing different about him: His brain. It would be almost impossible to survive for very long in such a body.

  • What do you do? DON´T HAVE CHILDREN!!!!!

  • I wonder how the psychiatrist that told Kim's parents to "put him in an institution and forget about him" thinks today.

    RIP Kim.

  • @d0alittledance He could have read that somewhere.

  • So sad...

  • @d0alittledance but the question is if he understands that literally, you can't tell that. maybe its only another quote that he uses about his father sometimes, like he says "you made yourself very important to me", you'll never know if understands what he says about his father.

  • I think he understands it. He thinks about things differently, but he seems to be able to express things that are important to him.

  • People like Kim are invaluable and unique in so many ways, and we would never know about them, if it weren't for people like his father. I watch so many dark documentaries these days, but this is a documentary where nobody gets hurt, and there's people with hearts, and people with gifts. This is what is worth living for.

  • A British person doesn't know what is how to pronounce the Lusitania? What are they teaching people at Oxford? For sure not history.

  • Bless Kim's father. What a wonderful man.

  • The end is just so... incredibly beautiful.

  • @d0alittledance they also said that in his effort to socialize he had adapted certain phrases and ways of being from reading, and he tries to replicate that which he has learned like and apply it like straight out of a textbook... like when he tells people you have made yourself important and all those other phrases

  • I think both Kim and his father had an extraordinary life in its own way.

Thanks to Frank's dedication, it was possible for us to watch someone contemporary who had this incredible ability.

So the fact that we use 3-5% of our brain is no longer an "urban legend", as neuroscientists had us believe. Their 'proof' that we use all of our brain is a magnetoencephalography which, taking the pathological as baseline, in the absence of brain damage... will say 'we already use all of our brain'...

  • @RajaBegun We use all our brain, just not all of it at the same time.

  • @Moh1Z - and not in the same way either.

  • What a beautiful docco.

  • pfffffff...............

  • Wow, its such a touching video on how his father never gave up on him, and the unconditional love felt between the two. May Kim Peek be in a better place now, Rest in piece Kim Peek.

  • The real superhuman here it's his father :)

  • @d0alittledance True but he is only repeating what he has heard. Repeating information like a parrot does and understanding it are two different things.

  • Ive met both of them and they are both truly kind and good people!

  • @d0alittledance It bugged me that Ramchandran didn't ask him what he meant, at least that we saw, by, "he doesn't seek his message in the stars." That could've been subtextual and the meaning would just be lost on someone not thinking along the same lines as him.

  • I would want to watch who wants to be a millionaire with him

  • His story is so touching. RIP Kim Peek, you're an inspiration to us all. As you may not be able to understand some things, you make us all understand more, and help us to reach for knowlage. You're hillarious and brilliant.

  • Would have loved to have met Kim.

  • Thats a true dad... I wish i had a father like this. To bad he left me when i was rly young...

  • His father is just as amazing as Kim himself.

  • "We share the same shadow" is so beautiful!

  • It is said that Kim is no longer with us, but with all the discussion of who passes first, I cannot find any information as to his dad surviving him or not... Does anyone know?

  • @flowerofsilver I've actually read somewhere that he's still alive and spreading his son's memory! what a great man and father! I really hope that they join each other somewhere better!

  • i wish i had a dad like kims

  • just watched all of these clips, truly inspirational

  • What's that beautiful Ambient-Song? Does anyone know?

  • Two of the most beautiful people... Each in their own way...

  • i am glad he went before his father,i would hate to think what would he have felt or what would have happened to him rip kim.

  • Please read KIM PEEK RIP and to Your Father :)

We look at things we don't actually see into,

Kim peek is a 1 of a kind guy and has a wonderful gift

his father has to look after a kim 24 hours a day with no holiday no break, But do you know why this is so..... Answer is that kim's father loves him like kim says ("me and my father share the same shadow") What a dad

I will be probably the only 1 on youtube to say this but

To kims father - You mother and father must be very proud...

  • Thats funny... He can't understand metaphores but he said his dad and him share the same shadow =)

I hope kim can rest well now.

  • R.I.P Mr Peek. I like this guy, so real.

  • RIP Kim. I really wanted to meet him. I wish my dad and I shared such a relationship, but honestly that last line "my dad and I share the same shadow" really broke me down.

  • Lmao how the video starts, R.I.P. KIm, your inspiration reaches deep within us all.

  • Thanks to godtammet for posting the videos, and R.I.P. Kim, on behalf of the netherlands.

  • there was a long video of him in front of an audience where the audience is asking questions similar to this, but they ask questions much longer, one of which was a baseball questions, and one of the questions Kim didn't know.... Can anyone give me a link to that video? i have been looking for it and can't find it

  • HE DIED!? NOOOOOOOO. I want to MEET him!! D:

  • R.I.P kim :,(

  • Someone please find out the name of the song or artist at the end of the video, it's just so incredible and emotional

  • this story really reminds me of good will hunting... in the end... human relationships are the most touching regardless of ones ability or disability.. RIp

  • Kim's IQ was 87. This shows how meaningless IQ tests are.

  • @Ujikaweapon1

not really.. you're talking about 2 different things. Kim has an extraordinary memory, and able to link things up ways that normal people can't. but he can't figure out simple things or metaphors.

people with IQ are able to do it easily.

it's like playing wow and adding different stats to your character.

  • "We share the same shadow" is kind of an metaphor isn't it?...so maybe he did get metaphors after all

  • Anyone know what the song at the end is?

  • to the father of kim peek, sir i salute you with my heart!!!you made kim a very great person and so are you...i don't say that i don't have a nice father...but in your case it is a big sacrifice in racing kim...he is totally amazing and that is all because oh you...

now i have a very sweet smile on my face and yet tears run to fade those smile...

i wish i had met kim peek...

  • Does anyone know if he outlived his father?

  • @calethesneak He did

  • And that last, powerful sentence is still enough to move me to tears, I hate that song btw, it's lethal to hyperemotional pussy's like me XD

  • R.I.P the most wonderful and unique mind the world has seen so far...

  • The thing that impressed me the most about this documentary was Kim's relationship with his father. Now that is something valuable!

  • What a truly beautiful human being,

He could teach the world an amazing truth

All humans are truly amazing in their own way

As Kim once said 'I didn't have to have a handicap to be different, we're all different'

    Let his memory live on . . . .

  • Fran's response to Kim saying they share the same shadow made me feel so warm. It was absolutely incredible.

  • anyone who disliked this video is going to burn in hell, kim peek was a miraculous man. we all need to realize how great the loss is of a multi talented savant. Everyone who disliked his just imagine how fran must've felt when kim passed away, he meant everything to him. anyone who can dislike such a strong relationship between father and son obviously has no emotions. it hurts me just to think about fran must feel with the majority of his life missing...passed away...

    R.I.P. Kim Peek

  • Who died first? Kim or Fran?

  • @ServeTheBeaver

Kim passed away last year. His father's still alive, I think.

  • @Menegoth Thank god. It sounds like a terrible thing to say, but imagine if Fran were to die first. That'd be awful :[

  • Comment removed

  • the second where his father glances down is probably the most emotive thing I've ever seen

  • goodnight rainman

  • Good bye Kim Peek.

  • Aw man, such an amazing Developmental disability, and yet such an Amazing person...i would love to have met Kim but still it is lovely to meet his legacy...

I really do not know what else to say... R.I.P

  • Kim and his dad got my deepest respect and R.I.P from sweden!

  • My Dad and I share the same shadow, I would understand that as a metaphor. What a beautifull person he was and what a genuinne father, wherever you are now Im sure you are a happy man

  • "me and my dad share the same shadow" sounds like a conceptual thought in the form of a metaphor. exactly what they said he could not do. .there are things were just not meant to try to categorize into levels of understanding. I think he was more brilliant than we ever thought he was

  • R.I.P. Kim Peek Please Do And Forever so

  • That father is so great. He can't die

  • "My Dad and I share the same shadow".... that simply left me speechless

  • This just made me cry and I don't even know why.

"My dad and I share the same shadow."

  • What beautiful instrumental music they play towards the end.

  • I just found out he died last year.....Also found out we have the same birthdate...

Amazing documentary and personality and I wish I could have met him.

  • hey freak, do your show laces up fuck nut ! then ill be impressed freak boy !

  • @ihateyoujerkoff

    lol, troll harder.

  • @ihateyoujerkoff idiot!

  • what a cool dad

  • Kim Peek was blessed with what seemed to be a great, bottomless memory bank... but more importantly, a father whose devotion was deeper and more immense.

    R.I.P. Kim Peek

All the best to Fran Peek, the epitome of dedication and unconditional love.

  • @katheyleen well said!

  • i cried while watching this. although i'm super sad that kim has passed away and that the world has lost such a amazing person and that no one can get to interact with him anymore but i'm also happy for his father, because like it was mentioned, the greatest fear of parents whose kids are not normal is that no one will take care of them when they pass away. but i really really salute his father and imagine the sorrow of kim's father, having stuck by his son for 58 years. it's like a routine.

  • 00:48 LOL

  • Wait a minute.. They said he couldn't understand metaphors.. yet he comes up with the shadow response to describe the relationship between himself and his father.

  • @Psytheslasher Yes, but I think he meant this literally. I mean.. when walking side by side, you actually do share the same shadow, right?

  • @Blubberbeest Yeah, but I think it would lose its meaning then.

  • amazing.

  • This made me cry, good stuff...

  • beautiful!

  • It makes me cry.

  • song name ?

  • great mind...one day we all might understand him...he was away over our minds...we are the ones behind....rest in peace

  • Amaizing

  • oh kim died already!? i was hoping to meet him one day!

  • greatest father ever.

  • I can help but cry watching the last few minutes of this video

  • Bless great parents

    Too few, true sacrifice

  • his head is massive

  • RIP Kim. you were very special to us. Such a sad ending! :')

  • Man, the fact that Kim has such a dedicated father almost brings tears to my eyes. No Homo. I only wish I had a Father growing up and to gain guidance from in this world. So much respect. For them both.

  • lol

  • He might be mentally disabled in a respect but hes lived a life that we all earn for as well as had true unconditional love, R.I.P Kim

  • so, who died first?

  • great story

  • Can anobody say what's the name of the song in the end of the film..

    pls... wery important! :(

  • "My dad and I share the same shadow"

That sentence has a metaphorical sense...

  • RIP Kim and what an amazing father to be able to have.

  • where's the mother? did they kill her so she wouldn't spend all of the movie royalties on herself?

  • Strange with his memory, in that there is probably such little understanding. He understands so little probably and does not comprehend that. He does not understand that he does not understand, Lost in a meaningless world of data. Like a huge hard drive without the processing chip.

  • As parent of daughter with autism , I have walked that walk with Kim's Dad....we have now the joy of walking together in the light of love and acceptance. Understand that one concept of acceptance gives you the freedom to Love.. My daughter name is Kimberly, she also goes by Kim. The name means the the Noble one...and so was Kim Peek....

  • i have autism and it is hell it is not funn if only autism didnt cause social problems and learning disablitys it would be ok

  • kims father is a hero

  • Just amazing.

  • I have nothing but the deepest respect for Kim and maybe even more so... his father.

Such dedication, such patience... it's amazing.

I hope they both geth what they deserve.

  • @DutchManticore and thts the best :D

  • I am not a person who cries but this documentry made me

I like his relationship with his dad

    Great human Being

    R.I.P

He's not even tht old only 58, it made me even sad when I found out he just died last dec 19 2009

  • I have seen this 3x aside from on youtube, what an amazing human being, god bless his father too he is quite an amazing man.

"my father and I share the same shadow"

    Amazing

  • @tshannon92 just amazin ur so right

ït was very beautiful how he said that

  • and the Doc said that Kim doesn't understand metaphors!

Doc you can't catch up with Kim! :P

  • I love it when the Student Union leader at OXFORD UNIVERSITY couldn't read Lusitania...that is so sad.

  • what a wonderful human being. both him and his father.

  • when i saw rain man i had to see the real man who inspired them, but now i guess its to late and not many people knew what a nice and loving person he was.

RIP Kim Peak we will never forget you.

  • sigh...... i cried.

  • god blessed him with that type of knowledge, thats serious!

  • thats sad that he died :(

  • fran peek is a hero

  • "I'm happy just to look at you."

I wish I could steal women's heart with a line like that.

    R.I.P. Kim

We all share the same shadow.

  • @anse69 I love how you changed that quote...we all share the same shadow...that is beautiful! God Bless!

  • RIP? Kim Peek Died???? I am terribly shocked. Badly shocked. I wished to meet him and ironically I knew about him just yesterday. I am badly hurt. badly.

  • @anse69

    THATS VERY TRUE

  • @anse69 did he pass away.shame i wanna cry now

  • @fashanu1000 yes, died from a heart attack in 2009. Such amazing mind is gone

  • were**

  • losing kim must have been a massive blow to his father... :( seeing how close they are and all

  • "My Dad and I share the same shadow"

    RIP

  • im totally blown away by this guy, absolutely amazing .

  • lol! 0:45 had me cracking up, these guys are awesome

  • The most beautiful part of this story is that it's not just Kim who is the extraordinary person but also his father who has shown such astonishing dedication and self-sacrifice. I'm truly and greatly inspired by their strength and determination in the face of adversary. The world will not lightly forget these two men.

  • R.I.P......must have taken the patients of the saints to be his father, i think they are both remarkable, as was his dear mother i am sure......amazing....

  • "sharing the same shadow" is a metaphor. according to what they said about his creative thinking ability i'm wondering does he understand the meaning of these words or he just heard it and just repeat it.... anyway, great guy R.I.P Kim Peek

  • He could also have meant it literally. If it amused him to look down one day and see that his dad and himself standing next to each other created only one shadow on the ground he might have repeated it along with some of the other random thoughts he's had. We just dismiss the other random statements and pay attention to the ones that have meaning for us.

  • such a great team. rip.

  • RIP Kim

  • RIP Kim. The end was very touching and sad, especially with what had just happened. My condolences go out to his family.

  • Rest in Peace Kim

Why do such intelligent people die so young?

  • Someone should have introduced him to Wikipedia

  • not everything on wikipedia is a reliable source of information. The library is a better source of information as is checked before it is published.

  • A kind and gentle soul. Rest In Peace Kim.

  • amazing story about two wonderful persons!....respect!!!!

  • RIP Rain Man

  • RIP

  • RIP

  • Prayers and peace to You MR PEEK! You are a inspiration to all parents especially those with developmentally disabled children! you are correct 30 hours a day 10 days a week . Thank You for sharing your beautiful son with the world. you gave him a WONDERFUL LIFE. job well done.

  • Wonderful and moving documentary. Couldn't help but wonder about the ending, where the father was saying "almost there" while they are walking through a graveyard.

Surprising way to end the documentary.

    RIP Kim

  • Good catch.

Not only that, but that was also the last subject they talked about, the "paradox" about the child and the parents timing of death.

  • RIP Kim Peek !!

His father is so affectionate even at 80 to care his child who is 55 !! A very rare human interaction !!

  • What greater love is there then to give your life in the service of another. Fran Peek you are a great man and a wonderful father. God bless you!

  • what a massive loss to the world,r.i.p kim.

  • @larryandemil Indeed, indeed, I actually feel sad.

  • to kim's father: you have been through a roller coaster ride raising a special kind of person. i admire your patience. i swear it moved me. wherever your son is, he is now happy and is now looking over you.

you have made a good decision of raising him instead of abandoning him.

  • i mean this in the most respectful way but i think its a good thing that kim went before his father cause had his father gone before i think it would have just torn his world apart considering his father is the most important person in the world to him, he said it best, "my father is my shadow" he was a brillant man and i'm glad i had the pleasure of witnessing his genuis, r.i.p rain man

  • RIP

  • RIP Kim Peek.
