  • 6:10 if his acting/singing career does not go well, he still can get a job at Cirque du Soleil!

  • OMG Don Draper can dance:-) I know it's not Jon Hamm, it's MIchael Berresse, but they look extremely alike.

  • wow this is such a great musical--thank you for the post!!!!!

  • I saw this in London. That scaling of the scenery just blew the audience away. Impressive as hell!

  • 0:25-0:27 I can repeat this a million times and still laugh my tail off xD

  • Fantastically done

  • "We'll be riding HIGH BABE!!" love it XD

  • The first time I watched him flip up those railings, I thought I was high.

  • It was written in the 40s feixue01, different time..

  • This never gets old.

  • Despite the nice singing and agile dancing, I still feel greatly bothered by how much the "shrew" of the musical is being bullied throughout the entire storyline when I see barely any more fault in her than to anyone else (namely Mr. Graham). The male idiot lied to her about the flowers, played with her emotions (love), and expected her not to be angry? The male roles are as mean and devious as Kate's. The injustice is difficult to swallow, especially how this is meant to be a comedy.

  • Fred Graham is an egotistical jerk, but so is she.

He did lie, but only because he really did care for her. if he didn't, he'd say "oh well that was a simple mistake" But he actually wants this relationship with her. He didn't play with her emotions. He likes her, but this little mistake tore everything apart

  • Yes, like i said before: they are pretty much on the same boat fault-wise.

I also thought the consequent spanking-even though it did occur in the actual play (in which scene i disagree with as well)- was unjust coupled with the idiot general making life worse for her due to these "little mistakes".

i do agree with you that he does care for her romantically and that it was this blunder which produced all this drama. It is just disappointing to see once again a female playing victim in a comedy.

  • Dayum, feixue01, you are just a barrel of monkeys aren't you? Relax, hon.

  • feixue - the 'real life' parts with Fred and Lilly etc. are supposed to mirror those of the 'play' parts with Catherine and Petruchio. Lilly is essentially the 'shrew', an angry woman as seen from the start, and so she must be 'tamed'. Yes it's misogynistic and sexist, but so is the Shakespearean play its based upon. A comedy in Shakespeare's time meant a play ending in marraige, not death (a tragedy), and this it's a comedy. Not a comedy by modern defintion, but still a comedy.

  • I saw this production at the Victoria Palace in winter 2001 - and I was so impressed when Michael Berresse went up the set like that. Another stand out moment in one of the best productions of any musical I've seen.

  • Was this scene in the movie? It's brilliant, but I never noticed it before. This is the first time I've seen the stage version.

  • Okay...the guy playing Bill is HOT!

  • bill is my favorite...he's just fabulous.
