I preferred this to the first one, and thought the writing, or maybe the story...Probably both was more convincing within the universe. Maybe its just because Spiderman is already established as a character.
And i have no shame in saying i watched it the other day, and i teared up, when he stops the train, and gets passed to the back of the train carriage.
It shows brilliantly how the media hate him...Which isnt unusual for the comics, only so the native New Yorkers can love him.
The only part of this movie that bothered me was how Doc Ock reasoned that he had to rob banks to buy the parts for a larger version of the machine... Why didn't he just steal the parts and cut out the middle man?
Any real Spider-Man fan knows that these films don't do a shred of justice for Peter Parker's story. They are decent films in perspective of public enjoyment and movie going experiences, but as far as it's comic book roots go, it doesn't have a bit of integrity.
This film was, by far, the best of the three and a great superhero film. One of the best. The sad thing is that I can't fight the feeling that it's diminished by what follows. The amazing build up between Harry and Peter in this film is completely destroyed by the complete failure that is Spider-man 3. As well as what happens between MJ and Peter. This film sets things up so beautifully and part 3 is a travesty.
@ZarahLean Considering the fact that he won a Pulitzer Prize, has millions of fans all over the world, and is widely considered the greatest living film critic, I would say a lot of people care what he has to say. Oh right, I forgot that if people disagree with you then they're wrong. Get a fucking life.
@MrSratticusFinch Instead of contacting me with curses, you need to take your own advice. You are up all night alone trolling old shows. @ZarahLean As if you haven't curse at anyone on youtube. I do take my own advice, I just happen to actually care about other people's opinions, unlike yourself. I think you need to look up the definition of trolling because that is exactly what you're doing. I don't know how you would know what I look like. He's a film critic, what is he supposed to do, say he likes every movie he sees? If anything he gives many unknown directors recognition for their work.
@ZarahLean oh hes trolling? really your going to every thing with ebert saying us fans think of him as a god or something. what is your problem you truly are an ignorant dumbass you truly do act as if you are wise but your no better then what ebert did wrong people don't make these videos for you to troll on. you might some times have things funny to say but all you say is that we adore ebert but we don't we are fans and only fans.i might be a teen but im still more mature then you
Doc Ock is a MUCH better villain in Spider-Man 2. He's more tragic and compelling. Green Goblin in Spider-Man 1 never felt real. He was more of a cartoon character. Plus, his voice and costume were...stupid.
what made spiderman 2 great was simply the one villain structure which allows the movie to develop the characters. the 3rd one ruined the whole by having like ten villains.
Best Super-Hero film of all time. Yes the Dark Knight is sheer spectacle but cmon who the hell can relate to a playboy billionaire. Peter Parker is an everyday guy in REAL New York City who we can all project ourselves as. This film made me cry it was so good I cant believe I hadn't watched it since I was fucking 12
My top 10 superhero films of all time: 1) The Dark Knight (cliche, I know, but it's the truth) 2) Superman (1978) 3) Spiderman 2 4) Watchmen 5) The Crow 6) X-Men: First Class 7) Batman Begins 8) Superman 2 (the Richard Donner cut) 9) Kick-Ass 10) Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
@modernway91 Don`t mea to offend but Empire, Aliens, T2, X2, The Dark Knight, Toy Story 2, Two Towers, Chamber Of Secrets, LW 2, Shrek 2, Rocky II, Madagascar 2 etc
Both of the Fantastic Four movies were crap. Batman Returns was inferior to Batman. But yes, Spider-Man 2 and X-Men 2 were better than their predecessors. Spidey 2, especially.
The Dark Knight was good, yes. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer... I just can't get past how bad Jessica Alba was in that movie. And Chris Evans is better as Captain America. The FF can be happily forgotten.
The movie was horrible. Parker's 'real' problems piled up to the point of being comical and Doc Oc was just another one dimensional genius turned psychopath type of villain.
At least the first movie had the origin sequence which was somewhat interesting.
Gene Simmons could of rocked the role of Octavius. The villains really were great in these Ramiohorengekyo Spider Mans. But Peter and Jane... oh jeez. To me, they have and always be all kinds of suck.
@kurvos The new Fast and the Furious moved away from the main cast in the third movie, before Universal bought Vin Diesel back along with Paul Walker for the Fourth and Fifth. It used to be even more common during the classic movie era.
@sugreev2001 But that wasn't what you said, captain genius. You claimed that if a remake doesn't work, they will give the director and actors of the old movies another go. This has NEVER happened, and never WILL either. If the Spider-Man reboot flops, they won't go back to the other movies. That would just be stupid and inconsistent. So, like I said - No, it hasn't.
@kurvos "Captain Genius"? How old are you,12? You don't know that it won't happen. If the reboot flops, which is very possible, returning to Raimi and Maguire might be the only option. And Watchmen sucks.
@TheGuyThatsAwesome Oh... so I am 12 for calling you "Captain Genius"? So it would make me more mature to call you something like "fucking moron", like the rest of the commenters does? I choosed something nice to call you in comparison to others, and you ask if I'm 12. Classy. And no, it's 100% impossible Raimi and Maguire will return for Spider-Man movies. Anyone except you knows that. And when the hell did we talk about Watchmen? I don't care if you hate it - I will love it as much regardless.
@kurvos I'm not the one you called "Captain Genius". You "choosed" (dumbass) to call him/her something that a 12 year old would say. So I called you out on it and you're getting defensive, like a little kid would do. And you're one out of a million to think TDK is overrated, you're also one out of a million to think Watchmen is underrated. Period. I don't know why I'm arguing over the internet with a kid anyway.
@TheGuyThatsAwesome Yeah, right... I'm the kid alright. I mean, I am after all the one who brings up how much he hates a movie the other one loves a lot out of nowhere even though it has nothing to do with the subject matter, and who uses stats of immature web-users' opinions to make myself feel more comfortable. Oh, sorry... I thought I was you. Excuse me while I ignore your next response, little one. ;)
@TheGuyThatsAwesome I mean, geez... "Watchmen suck"? Really? You're so desperate to attack me, you randomly starts to pick on my favorite movie? You know you asked if I was 12, right? Well, let me ask you this then - are you 5? Because that's the actual level you just got down to.
I forgot.; What was the reson why Spider-Man couldn't shoot a web at Doc Ock during the bank, or, when he tries launching a web he couldn't do it while he was web-swinging, later on?
That Spider-Man 2 had more emotional characters than just Harvey Dent and Bruce. In spiders film, all of the characters express some kind of emotion, from Peter in hope, to Aunt May in forgiveness and redemption, Harry in terms of trying to let go of the past (at the end), MJ about hope and understanding. The Dark Knight is still an excellent film, but not as good as Spider-Man 2.
@moviebuffreviews yes but everybody in both of those two films combined weren't even half as interesting as the Joker in the Dark Knight. He is a psychopathic murderer one moment and then a great philosophizer the next. I like both of these films a lot but heath ledger and nolan just put The Dark Knight over the top. Although you are right that Bruce Wayne is the weak link in the batman movies as his character is kinda boring. What he symbolizes is brilliant but Bruce himself puts you to sleep.
@hailmary7283 I would like to state that my opinions have since changed for this movie. I like this movie as much as The Dark Knight, but on a story and emotional level, The Dark Knight is way better.
@moviebuffreviews lol have you watched this movie latley?the acting is on soap oprah level, the movie has some extreamly goofy moments and tobey maguire is horribal as peter parker,i honeslty dont understand why this film was considered one of the best superhero films of its time when X2: X Men United was a far better film, this movie doesnt even come close to being as good as the dark knight
To me this movie is better than The Dark Knight for many reasons. First of all, I think that Peter is more developed than Bruce. In The Dark Knight, Bruce's weaknesses are not expressed as much as Peter in Spider-Man 2. Also, the action is better in Spider-Man 2. Sure, The caped crusader has some cool action scenes, but none of them compared to the awesome train fight at the end of Spider-Man 2. Finally, I think
Dude, 'Batman: The Dark Knight' & 'Batman Begins' are what'll make Christopher Nolan a house-hold name in terms of the next generation, much like Tim Burton with 'Batman: 1989', 'Beetle-Juice' & a host of others.
Spider man and spider man 2 remain among the best super hero films ever, they have a lot of heart and the action scenes are top notch.Oh and for those fewmovies compare.Oh,and for those who didnt like the green goblin because of the suit....I mean really?,thats your complaint?....Fucking retarded, yeah, its not like the comics but so what,in a modern age like now it would look ridiculous. The suit is fine,so stfu
@acebunny17 -- I honestly didn't like the suit either, and I thought the actor was hammy as hell. I mean, there's a huge difference between being a "villain" and just being plain goofy. I thought he was too much in the goofy category.
I've never been a fan of Spiderman 'cause it always felt like a "gee-willikers!" style romp. I like things to be a bit more post-modern, gritty, moody, believable, etc. Sure there were dark moments, but ... the Spiderman's just felt silly to me.
I think Spiderman 2 is the best film of the Spiderman trilogy, coz the story is interesting beggining until the end and I think if Spiderman 4 will be rebooted I think the future franchises will sucks!! Have a good movie weekend and watch Ironman 2 coz Its a blockbuster franchise
Ya know, it's funny how it took Ebert 2 films to finally get the concept of Spider-Man; further proof that this man cannot accurately critique comic book films to save enough money for a cheeseburger! If he paid attention, Spidey has ALWAYS been a vulnerable character due to his ordinary problems. That's why the comic worked so well in the 60s--it was a character more people could relate to (unlike Batman or Superman).
This was a great movie, the series was ruined for me with the third installment just like the matrix. I just like to believe this was the last spiderman and forget entirely about number 3, makes me cringe just thinking about the 'dark' Peter Parker and that fucking jazz walk.

And then from there you have a ton of "good" superhero movies that gould vie for the #4 and #5 spots and it's largely choice.
But the original "Superman," "Spider-Man 2," and especially "The Dark Knight" are in a league of their own.

@obiwanobiwan13 Honestly, I've never seen the original Superman movie. I have seen Superman II though, so I'll have to check it out.

@TheGuyThatsAwesome The Dark Knight is the most overrated superhero movie ever, and Watchmen is the most underrated superhero movie ever. Period.
