i guess andrew wrote a lot of the guitar riffs and vocal melodies in the first album, and i think they were some of the best i've ever heard. there's no reason as to why cosmic egg would be bad... and it wasn't bad, it's just as good as the first if not better.

The new album is better than the first and the new quartet is fucking badass. As a bassist I hate the way people say these guys are expendable. If they were a trio still playing clubs, Stockdale might have had a problem finding worthy replacements. The new band is incredible partially due to their success as a band. Fine by me, cause "Cosmic Egg" is quite possibly one of the best albums of '09.

i disagree with the people who disagree that the drummer and bassist/keyboardist can be replaced.

i agree that each person adds their own individuality to it, but seriously, the drumming, keys and bass are extremely basic. i think replacing these guys would be easy.

stockdale on the other hand cant be. most people dont even picture the other guys when they hear the name wolfmother.

Stockdale is the heart and soul of Wolfmother, Ross and Heskett could have been replaced months ago and no one would have noticed. This is not the last we've seen of Wolfmother, it's just the last we've seen of Ross and Heskett.

Ross and Heskett make for a fantastic rhythm section, those guys are such a big part of what made Wolfmother I dont think Wolfmother is going to be quite the same with whoever Stockdale picks up.

But the rhythm section is the backbone of a band. Its the blood that pumps through the band's veins. Sure, you can put a new one in, but it wont be the same. You can replace your guitarist or vocalist too but it will never be the same. But Ross and Heskitt were very important to the band's sound and are going to be hard to top by a replacement. John Bonham was "just" a drummer, but when he was gone Led Zeppelin COULD not and WOULD not continue. The rhythm section is important too.

I think you might be overselling their role a bit. I understand the two brought a certain dynamic to the band, but I'd be more concerned if Stockdale left and it was just Heskett and Ross. I believe you can replace a guitarist/vocalist and be better for it. Would Tallica have been as good with Dave Mustaine, as opposed to Kirk Hammett, the guy who replaced him? As for replacement vocalists, look at INXS and ACDC.
