It might be quakeworld like, but nothing was taken from quakeworld in cpm, some stuff was taken form the orig quake, but not the quakeworld mod itself, read the arqon interview on the promode site wiki :)
The whole concept of promode (conceived by hoony et al) is to emulate QuakeWorld in order to fix Quake3 which is broken. And while cpma is a drastic improvement over Quake3 that I'm sure I'd love if I were ignorant of QuakeWorld, it has compromised on the elegance, sublety, & difficulty of QW. Dear 'qu4k3w0r1d', QuakeWorld is the game many of us have been working on for 12 years now, clients, servers, artwork, mods still in development (no need to change the gameplay (re:cpm,q2w,wsw, etc) because it is complex enough to still be evolving) there is no way QW would be alive today (prize money tournaments the past three years, which were the first since the 2001 CPL) after twelve years without the work of many talented individuals inspired by the best multiplayer fps game. I don't hate everything, what I hate are all superficial derivative QW simulacra that only serve to obscure QW from its rightful place, from potential new players, from players that have long ago quit QW in its infancy on the premise that one of the newer quakes somehow improved upon the game (mediocracy and eye candy is what makes games profitable). Hypothetically, I'm sure I would love q3cpm('pro-mode') for example, if QW did not exist, or if there were any improvements to be made over QW.
lol i do think that quakeworld cant be topped, but your an idiot :) CPMA Painkiller and warsow were never qw ripoffs, go look up arq0n interviews about cpma, didnt take anything from qw, either quake 1, or the other quakes, painkiller just used qw as inspiration to build a different game, never intended them to be alike, and warsow is built a lot more like cpma than qw lol dunno anything about q4w but ive read its just an improved q4 dm, with qw like attributes, and q2w is kinda fun :)
awesome! I wish somebody would do a Duke Nukem style project like this! call it OpenDuke or something.. I guess somebody could always create a mod that adds pipe bombs and stuff to Quake2World :)
