Hey Passenger, those Damage Control guys should send you some free pedals. I am your next victim: I just ordered a Timeline too. Gosh you ARE convincing! Thanks for the good demos!
Great videos. I've owned one of these for quite a while and I'm still finding new uses for it.
Just wondering, did you run it through the effects loop of your amp? If so, is it a series or parallel effects loop?
Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you post the settings for a few of the delay types you used. I understand if you don't want to have to write all that down, but if not, could I maybe just ask you for a couple of them?
Thanks. Actually, I'm running it just right out in front of the amp. No effects loops.
As far as settings, I think the one I used most in these videos was on the Dotted 8th setting. 3-4 repeats, time set by tap, grit at about 10, mix at wherever your rig dictates for it to be as loud as your original signal, not much filter, and smear at about 10-ish. And then there's varying amounts of modulation on the different dotted 8th patches. Most of them vary the depth more than the speed.
I'm curious about those settings too. I've got a timeline and I'm loving it. One more question, are you able to do the tap tempo through your midimate?
If you set it up right, I think you can do tap tempo through the midi mate. I've got it set up to do only patch switching, and then I do on/off and tap tempo on the Timeline itself.
The settings for the medium swell are grit at about 10 o'clock, mix just below noon, repeats at probably about 3 o'clock, with time at one o'clock. Filter at 10 o'clock, smear at 2 o'clock, mod depth at 1 o'clock, and mod speed at 9 o'clock. I think.
Nice job on this demo- it really sounds good, and illustrates the quality and features of this unit. I have recently become the proud owner of the Glass Nexus, and it appears that the Timeline shares the same studio-quality character. One more thing- I like the 'strum tempo' feature of the Glass Nexus. It is very practical, and is simply different than what most are used too. In my opinion, not a mistake by Damage Control.
Thanks for the kind words. And congrats on the Glass Nexus. It's really cool to find someone for whom the strum tempo is working. My problem with it was that I couldn't figure out how to throw in a couple staccato strums live to set the tempo without throwing the song off. How do you get around this? Any info would be great! Thanks for the comment and for the help! Cheers!
Great demo, well explained and good sound quality. Thanks for going to all the trouble to make this vid. Nice bit of kit. I was really keen on the Damage Control Glass Nexus but the tap tempo for the delay turned out to be "strum tempo" which seems like a bad decision by the Damage Control guys.
And yep, that's exactly why I don't have a Glass Nexus. I think it was that you could tap tempo for the effect rate, but the delay time had to be strum tempo...and I would rather tap my delay than my effect rate. Oh well. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Ya, the Timeline is a very good sounding delay, in my humble opinion. I'd love to have a TTE, but I'd always be scared to gig with it. hehe Is it pretty sturdy?
I'm really interested in this delay thanks to the video. When you're in the room with them, which would you say is clearer, or just more spacial/bigger? I'd have to let go of the replica to fund it.
As far as delayed sounds go, they both sound just about the same as far as spaciousness goes. However, the edge would have to go the Timeline because of the modulation...that will push it into sounding a little more spacious than the Replica. Also, while the Timeline can dial in the same sounds as the Replica, it can also get more analog or more digital, thanks to the grit control.
Actually, I played a Replica for years because of its incredible sound...but all the while searching for a delay that could match it in tone, but had more features. I tried the Timefactor, Nova Delay, DD20, all the usual suspects.
When I finally found the Timeline, the search ended. It could match the Replica in tone almost exactly, but had so much more versatility. It's the delay I've been searching for for a long time, without having to go into rackmount gear like the 2290 or something.
Isn't that the truth. I went through the DD20, Nova, and Memory Lane before the Replica. The Replica came when I decided I couldn't get a 2290 in my price range. :)
Thanks for your help. I think I'm going to put the Replica up for sale. When I listened to one of your clips (can't remember which), one of the first things I thought was, "this might be it!"
"that does it's own thing" haha.

Hey can the Midi Mate send the tap tempo to the TL? Can you control both TL's with the one Midi Mate?
Digital Storm! I remember you mentioning that in a blog.

@cosmogang Yes, you can on both counts. It just cuts the number of presets available instantly way down, though.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try running the pedal infront of my amp for a while and see if I like it better.
Also, if you don't mind that I ask, what were the settings for the medium swell setting you showed in the second video?
