  • Leroy "Hog" Cooper passed on 1/15/09,

David "Fathead" Newman passed on 1/20/09,

Hank Crawford passed on 1/29/09. All were members of Ray Charles' band in the late '50s-early '60s. RIP, gentlemen. All were on Charles' hits "What'd I Say', "Hit the Road Jack", Modern Sounds in Country and Western, etc.

  • Rest in Peace Hank, go and jam with Bird

  • All y'all diggin' on this-check out the album this came from: "From The Heart" on Atlantic from 1962. If you dig this the way I do, his first 5 or 6 album for Atlantic in the early-to-mid '60s will satisfy your soul. The latest album by Sanborn, Here and Gone, and interview in the latest issue of "Jazz Times" magazine have many references to Hank and the early Ray Charles Band. Long live Hank!
