Having retired now, I discovered the joy of YouTube in rekindling memories of old songs. 50 years ago when I married a German girl, I learned the joy and beauty of German Weihnachten and this song. So while browsing YouTube I just thought I'd see if I could find this song based on the first line. I was delighted to find it and other Weihnachtslieder. Thanks a million for uploading.
I have several different recordings of the Vienna Boys Choir singing this song. Somehow this version (from the Hans Gillesberger era) is the most poignant of all. Beautiful job!
I agree. They come in through the ears and go right to the heart and soul. They make me somber but I can't stop listening to them, they are so beautiful.
