  • PS Check Only One Woman by The Marbles - another Aus act and The Gibbs were also on that. Hit in UK

  • reminds me of simple days, of early youth.

  • My older sister had this 45! I used to listen to it over and over. Does anyone have it, or at least the song that was on the flip side? It was their version of "Beyond the Sea" If so can you upload it for me?

  • Listening to this while eating toast and marmalade and drinking tea = bliss.

  • soooo LSD.....

  • this song should be a national treasure

  • Sounds like a cross between the BeeGees & The Hollies.

    Great tune!

  • @imlavernesmom funny you should say that, as maurice gibb was their producer! i agree, it is a great song - an international hit, and maurice plays bass (with a broken arm)! don't ya just love that distorted piano?

  • @LadieBug357 I actually seem to recall them playing in Gippsland in Victoria in Australia. I have often heard it said that that it featured The Bee Gees on it . If you check many Oz 45s from the 60s ( this was about 74 ) The Bee Gees frequently appeared on stuff or at least composed it.

  • @eppeywonder yes, you are absolutely right! they were very prolific during their time in Oz (and of course after they returned to england, as well) - writing many tunes that others recorded, and singing (and producing) on others' recordings of their songs. indelible bee gees stamp was on lots of records esp in 60's and early 70's!

  • Pessoas que podem ir a Londres podem apreciar toast and marmalade for tea, se ficar por aqui é pastel e caldo de cana!

  • MAS TORRADA COM MARMELADA NO CHÁ, QUEM FAZ ISSO?

  • @edua2109

MEU CARO, NÃO É MARMELADA. E SIM GELÉIA. ABRAÇOS,

  • O VOCAL DOS CARAS É FOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so great....

  • i forgot about this song but it was always 1 of my favs i used to play it over and over -still think it is so beautiful

  • This song when you're baked is perfect.

  • produced by maurice gibb

    terrific song

  • This song takes me to a different place - just beautiful.

  • Beautiful song....

  • ohhh, sooo sixties.......

  • This song reminds me of my junior high days in Palms California and hearing this song on "Boss Radio" 93 KHJ Los Angeles!

  • an all time fave of mine...great film !!! thanks !!

  • I have been listening to this constantly lately.

  • I heard this being played on either Radio North Sea International/Veronica around 1972 but, sadly, have never heard it since.

  • Steve Groves was the main man in the group. Amazing world we live in to learn that key songwriter for Mr Groves was none other than Richard Dawes, much admired comic foil to John Clark in the Clark-Dawe parodies on The 7.30 Report.

  • I just first heard this today on a music channel on television that only plays '70's songs and I fell in love with this song.I really like the way it sounds,it's awesome!

  • I like your setting best

  • gracias por hacer este video porque esta es una linda cancion

  • SO SIMPLE SO BUITIFULL

  • I have never forgotten this beautiful tune, it comes to me during the dark tender moments when I am alone and refelecting on our pathetic earthly existance and it comforts me. Although I resist the idea of "decades" (an advertising/media construct) I do agree with bobbya16...the 70's were quite a time

  • MUST BE THE BEST AUSTRALIA SONG EVER

  • I know it ISN'T him but the vocalist sounds quite like Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd. Very simple lyrics and nice tune. As others have said, much better than all the pap which is in the charts today, so called "soul" or "r & b" - if only they knew what REAL soul and r & b was!

  • Nice song. No more of this kind of songs nowaday.

  • enjoy it for what it was steve

  • 00:36s haahahahah ele bate a cabeça! gooooodsong!

  • Stange song, over and over the same melody from start to finish.

  • this is such a great song , thank god that i grew up in the 70's

  • @60srocker46 There was nothing quite like it though I did not know or appreciate it at the time.

  • i can instatally remember the time of year, the place, the girl, and our first kiss while this song played hauntingly in the background. thank you so much for the rekindle of a moment so long ago, yet so familiar i can still feel her lips upon mine

  • I think one of the Bee Gees wrote this.

  • I saw this group open for the Bee Gees around 1970 to 1971. Thanks, for the memory, billtown2.

  • For a second I thought that guy at 1:27 was getting sick over the side of the boat. I remember this one. The funny thing is this song wasn't really finished (thus the repetitiveness) and it was their biggest hit. Love the long hair. Would love to run my fingers through that.

  • so very beautiful, makes me shiver

  • Another timeless classic from Australia. Steve Groves wrote it but Maurice Gibb produced it. If it wasn't for Australian musical talent, the world would be a lot poorer.

  • this was the song my buddy Mike and I listened to.Mike died last year..

  • esta música e do meu tempinho que eu dançava de rosto coladinho eita coisa boa agora é so saudades.

  • 70's had the best (and worse-lol) one hit wonders. This was one of the best. I remember spring of 71 and this 16 year old boy we tweens thought was so cute and so he was so cool the was he crossed on the outside of the railroad bridge and smoked cigarettes.

  • MEMORIES!!!

  • Memories flooded by heart.

  • Love it love it love it!

  • very romantic sentiments. i'm going to go tell my wife that she's lovelier than toast.

  • @illharmonic I can't believe it's not butter!!

  • proto Duran Duran video!

  • this song is absolutly beutiful and i always wondor why tin tin isnt more popular then they were

  • @mrjoe551 Maybe they broke up

  • Maurice Gibb was their producer.

  • I vividly remembering this song coming out in May 1971.

  • I was a "rock" snob as a teenager and turned my nose up at this and other similar stuff on the AM radio during the early 70's. But I heard it all because AM radio was totally ubiquitous during that time. Now, finally with some objectivity (and compared to what passes for pop music now) it so obvious what great music it really is.

And this is such a lovely tune!

  • I too grew up in the 70s. I always waited with great anticipation any new music that came out at the time. There is this cultural fuzziness between the ending of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s

  • Ero una ragazzina,e questa canzone mi ricorda il mio primo amore.16 anni! Bei tempi.

  • The first time I heard this song i was 13, it was very inspirational.this song is a tribute to the genuine creativity of the 1970's

  • excellent

  • bobbya16 -- make that the '60s. This song came out in 1970. Culturally, the 1960s lasted until about 1973.

  • @Cabochon1360 ...Yes that is true...but in some songs, this one included, you can hear that transition from the 60's to 70's sound...this song especially can be used as an accurate barometer for those changing sounds....I grew up in the 70's so of course Im going to favor that time more than the 60's...

  • @Cabochon1360 I think the 60s as a cultural era ended in August 1974 when Nixon resigned the Presidency.

  • The trio was the warm-up act on the US Bee Gees 71 tour when I saw/met them . Nice guys but a draggy set as the three sat on chairs to play their two hits minus drums etc. The big deal of course is that Steve Kipner (high harmony guy) went on to move out here to LA and subsequently wrote BAZILLIONS of hits ... like Olivia Newton John"s "Physical" and more recently, Christina Aguilera"s "Genie In a Bottle" . Light years beyond his Tin Tin days.

  • Thanks, Billtown2! Tin Tin footage is rare indeed.

  • unforgetteble and wanderful

  • they were all arrested later that day for stealing the rope from that boat

  • what a good song from the 60 tees

  • I was 11 years old when this song came out. I have no idea why I thought of it again, but the words got stuck in my head. I couldn't find it on iTunes so thank you for uploading this. :)

  • @Mainyard48 When I hear this song I recall a duck hunting trip just before it came out. My late Dad took my buddy Mike and myself to hunt down at the Salton Sea, driving his 1970 Cadillac El Dorado. That vehicle was a car attached to an engine, not the other way around. I recall the cold morning, a nice hamburger stand, and a Zephyr Sterlingwourth shotgun in hand, in a golden age

  • Great Aussie talent from around 1970.

  • i remember this song when we used to live next to echo park in California i remember when all my brothers and sisters we were a big family especially my dad that is no longer here i feel like crying love this song!!!

  • has to be better then rap any day

  • I remember this,i was 10 years old,we used to drive up country to our bro in laws camp in his 71 dodge dart Used to take an hour to get there and all these great songs used to play on the radio, including this one

  • ya 99x woodlawn bronx ny with all my friends PRICELESS! brian burke kevin peter john monohla e240th st bronx... hey you all its Curt Greco!!!

  • wow memories!! Thanks

  • The greatest record ever recorded!

  • I can't listen to this song, without crying my eyes out.

  • Comment removed

  • @IwshIcldstrtover May I ask why you cry your eyes out? Unless it's personal. Then I 'll understand if you don't want to say. By the way, this IS a beautiful song. I have loved it ever since it came out back in the 70s. I was in high school when this beautiful song was released. Brings back alot of good memories. It has a very melancholy sound to it but nevertheless still a great song in my opinion.

  • @kismet818 It just has that affect on me.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover Cool. I understand. There are some songs that make me remember my younger days and I feel kinda melancholy. Maybe it's like your user name. Alot of people wish they could start over. Good luck friend.

  • @kismet818 Your comment is really touching. It is good to know that others get this type of feeling and instead of ridiculing people, you encourage. Thank you so much for your kind comment and wishing me luck, and calling me "friend". Too bad there aren't more people like yourself in this world.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover You are truly welcome but it was nothing. I only said what I felt. After all, you are a human being who deserves respect. I was glad to do it. Have a great day!!!! Again, I love this song.

  • @kismet818 Thanks ever so much, Kismet18. You have a great day, also. I love this song, too.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover I know that emotion too!!!!! I feel the same way as You.

  • @americaneagle2076 Thanks for sharing this. It is amazing how so many are affected by this song. The Bee Gees "First of May", and the very end of their song "Words" also rip my heart out. I love those songs.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover The Bee Gees, Tin Tin, Pilot....they all knew how to make MUSIC!!!!! Pity those "artists" we have today can't do the same.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover So true. this s a hidden gem. 1000000x better than today!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @IwshIcldstrtover there there, but I totally understand.

  • @peterzang Thank you. The song makes me think of many different things. It paints a beautiful picture, but, the scenes are sad to me, because they involve times gone by.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover I totally get it. I watched Brian's Song the other night, and aside from the sadness of the story, I saw the date (1971) and thought about a girl I miss and my prep school days). I play, too and write about music and that Tin Tin song just kills me.

  • @peterzang I know exactly what you mean. When it reaches a certain part, I feel my heart breaking. Isn't it something how some music can do this to you?

  • @IwshIcldstrtover when it modulates. And the strings and brass come in.

  • @IwshIcldstrtover

That's nostalgia for you... I know EXACTLY what you mean. By the way I have never heard this song, thanks to Gearslutz I was made aware. I miss toast... (wheat intolerant)

  • Such great memories and one of my fav songs of all time. A timeless classic. Thanks for the great post

  • I remember when I first heard this. It was on Boss Radio 93 KHJ in Los Angeles I was living in Palms California and attending Palms Junior High. It seems like yesterday.

  • a beautiful song , it takes me back to a time that seemed free and easy yet turbulant at the same time

  • i remember sitting at the watsons bay hotel with this playing ahh the days and we all had hair then

  • i remember this song , it conjures up visions of quaint old English cottages and surrounding countryside , walking hand in hand up the lane towards home for ,''Toast and marmalade for tea'' of course.

  • Such A Very Lovely Song!!! Just Love It! 5*s Thankyou...Anita..

  • Loved this song back in the day and still do! Bought some marmalade at the store over the weekend (usually buy jelly or jam), but got the marmalade in remembrance of this song. Have been enjoying it!! Having "toast and marmalade" and remembering the early 1970's. Great times and great song!!

  • I'd rather starve.

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • @Kittielips, You gave me some laughs with your post!! Thanks!!. I'm actually a seedless jam person normally (especially red raspberry). Just thought I'd try to get into the song and remember the old days at Grandma's house!!

  • Some things are best forgotten.......

My Grandma used to eat bread and dripping!!

Imagine that? Talk about 'heart attack tackle!'

    Jennie.

  • @Kittielips, yes I remember my Grandparents, mostly Grandpa, doing the same thing with the bread and drippings Yikes! Maybe we are long lost cousins!!

With your name, I'm guessing you may be a kitty lover like me. I pay the rent and bills and my little sweetie lets me live here!

  • @TheDiana822

Have you ever had sugar dumplings? They're disgusting....There wasn't any need to eat tripe like that, was there? Isn't your cat kind to give you a roof over your head?

  • @Kittielips, I don't like dumplings fixed in any way, so sugar dumplings sounds horrible!

Yes, little Wendy (my cat) is kind to let me live here, paying all the bills. Have a vet doctor appt for her in a few days, temperature taking (eeeks)and shots, etc. She's such a sweeheart, but I may be thrown out soon. HA!

To the song, I have decided to enjoy it, but with toast and raspberry jam.

  • @TheDiana822

I refused to eat them.....I'm sure tripe must taste better, but I won't try that either. Do they still that? I feel sick at the thought of it.

Anyway, your Cat sounds lovely; they don't enjoy a trip to the vet, do they? I hope she doesn't throw you out!! You can always come here.

    Jennie.

  • Your grandma used to eat bread and dripping? Not so strange; I still do - and I thoroughly enjoy it too. Pork dripping is the best, sprinkled liberally with salt and (white) pepper.

  • @Nozzernomates

Please don't eat it any more. This is so bad for you.

    Take care.

    Jennie.

  • There was not a better time than the 70's.

  • @bobbya16 I've always felt the same

  • @bobbya16 agreed

  • @bobbya16 The 60s weren't bad either. Alot of GREAT music. I grew up in the 60s and let me tell you I had the time of my life. I would definitely to it all over again. Even without computers, video games, cell phones, cable tv, loved every moment of it!!!!

  • @bobbya16 YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!!!

  • @bobbya16 SO TRUE!!!!!

  • Great song and video...thanks so much for posting!

  • GREAT song! Thanks to hrpman and kittielips for sharing this and to billtown2 for posting it! Loved it!

  • Thank you.

    5*****.

Thanks to hrpman for the 'share,' too.

    Jennie.

  • THANKS SO MUCH! This 45 was the first one I ever bought when I was a boy and I told my older that this was the only 45 I was going to buy! I found it while moving a couple of years ago... in its original bag! Precious.

  • @NoelFlyer thats kick ass ! i am 45 & just recently discovered them here in the usa. i i collect records & have both of the full lengths ! google akashamans kosmos & u will find them , might have to go through a few pages ! ........:)

two of my fave lp`s of all time.

  • Thank you for posting-although it is hard to beat good English marmalade-she must be lovely indeed.

  • Wow, I have not heard this since the 60's! Thanks for the great post!

  • it came out in '71...

  • evocative

  • @stepgx

    I think it's a 'pile of ship.'

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • This song is so beautiful. It makes me want to smoke pot or do some mind-altering drug and just sail my mental ship upon the sea.

  • @breedcancer2006

Keep your breeding comments to yourself in future.

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • @breedcancer2006 Why don't we hear this more often instead of all the same oldies stuff

  • @breedcancer2006 That's what they were doing back then.

  • beautifull song!

  • rember it well on radio station AFRTS

radio station on guam in 1972 love it
