I totally agree. Of course, here in America a good deal of blame can be laid at the feet of parents who have abrogated the responsibility for raising their children to the government schools, the church and even television. The attitude is "here, you take them. I don't have time for this." It's the 'it takes a government village" to raise children mentality. Freedom entails personal responsibility and people don't want to assume that anymore.
The Constitution provides freedom of religion, so an adult can CHOOSE the religion that they want to be a part of. When the kids mature, they can make their own choice, atleast in the U.S.
The freedoms that we are loosing is with the government. For instance. Before World War 1, we had no tax on the land. They said "we will make a land tax now, then after the war it will be gone". Never happened. We become desynthesized to our lost freedoms.
The state in a banana republic, controled by the military Junta and Rich elite can indeed be seen as evil by the people it oppresses, but a state does not have to be a Banana Republic, nor corrupt, nor have lobbyist legal, or have corporate campaing contributions, there are other ways a state can be setup from the ground up to be for and by the people.
i allmost ever share your points of view but this time i don't agree. i think school must be run by the state but it's the job of the state to represent the will of the people. We have a different school system in germany and there is one thing in the U.S. that's really unbelievable to me. The military is allowed to recruit students in school. Collecting adresses to get the students brainwashed later. Political education should be reduced to teaching the basic values of democracy. That's enough
Freedom is ever diminishing in a captalist technocracy, it is impossible to advance without further dependance on the system. Modes of production can not be consolidated unless its on a mass scale, good luck trying to get home schooled when both of your parents are working for inadequate wages, only few can afford private schools, which mostly turn out to be religious any way. Freedom + technology of the modern world can not stand together!
Good arguments. People have the right to "opt out" from the system. There are people who have nobody and can't care for themselves (the orphan). The way to real freedom is to voluntarily do in their own way what the state/religion now tries to make people do because those needs will always be there. The education system needs to teach people how to be freedom-loving, responsible individuals rather than trying to turn them into a one size fits all conformist mold.
I agree with you 100%. My daughter is now back in the public school system because she chose to go, but I hated the system so much that I homeschooled both my kids for several years.
We should encourage our children to be CURIOUS. A curious mind is a dynamic mind, constantly re-examining its understanding of the world around it. A curious person has the patience to ask why things are the way they are, not the haste to cling to an answer and move on. A curious person seeks to understand their enemies' beliefs, not rush to censure and persecute them for it. A curious person does not take comfort in accepting popular opinions, but derives their own conclusions.
F*** the government. The swedish government can destroy all the courches but they don't.
Destroy the courches and build asatru temples in Sweden.

But without the constraints on freedom that the state imposes on us, who would then eat all the Big Macs and drink all the Coke?
