Actually, this is another infamous trait of the Great Danes. It is a sign of affection (unless you're in their favorite sleeping spot, then they just want their spot!) ... I was a skeptic when I read this, but ours does it with our other dogs as well as other family members, but will not do it to our oldest dog who is antisocial with the other dogs.

AHHH!! Great danes are my favorite dogs in the world but my dad won't let me get one because theyre "too big"!!! we dont even have a small house! we have an acre of land and a pretty big house and theyre only like 6 inches taller than a lab (ok i guess that's a lot....) but i dont see why it matters if it is big or not! it all depends on if you love it and i LOVE great danes!!! how do i convince him to get one!?!?!?

They are just big couch potatoes!!! They don't bark for nothing, they are great family dogs, protective, and the greatest dogs for children.

The only thing is, they don't like to be alone. They'll try to chew everything they can so you have to train them not to.

@beehappy718 Danes are Way more than 6 inches taller than a Lab. my 5 month old Dane is way bigger than any Full blood Lab! Gabe is already 86 Lbs on the scales at the vets office today, he will hit 140 -160 Lbs when full grown and 36 Inches + at the shoulders. They are very big dogs and require a lot of play time and exercise as a puppy. They are a lot of responsibility, I have had Danes since 1979.

That is a very typical Great Dane trait. The are known as the Gentle Giants that think that they are lap dogs and that is soooo true... They don't know that they are so big. Both your doggies are beautiful! Loved it!

It's adorable, but you do realize this is a dominant behavior I hope! I would correct the Great Dane and not let that happen anymore. I would also not let the Samoyed nip at him like that, but I suppose it could be avoided if the Great Dane never set on him in the first place. Just my two cents! With Great Danes you don't want dominance because it can lead to jumping and other naughty behaviors (if they think they're in charge). Take care.
