Just two months back, I was helping my Uncle change the ignition lock housing on a BMW and I noticed it was a light gray metal. Wondering if it was magnesium, I took a torch to it. Had to heat it up until it glowed orange then blow on it a little to get it to oxidize and start burning bright white. Letting it fall on the concrete shop floor after it ignited was also fun (burning pieces and sparks flew everywhere)

Uncle told me that he's heard of tossing old air-cooled VW blocks into bonfires.
