I still don't get it, why is the ring gear called the ring gear? Shouldn't it be called the universe gear? :D

There have been at least a few Manual Transmission that also use planetary gears, such as the Wilson Pre-select.

Problem is; I think you just waste the torque..

will this help in a rickshaw application meaning with momentum by pulling will it become easier to pull once momentum is gained

It's a gear, it applies force however you want it to. Normally, sun gears are in automatic transmissions... It changes the ratio's of the transmissions input and output shafts.
