@PCWizKid Hey, I have a question, is there any way that you can make a video over the newest version of Ubuntu. A lot of things have changed and I think It could help people to show where things have moved and maybe some tips over it.
You are a frickin life saver!!! Thanks a ton for this video. I love linux but man is it hard to find help on the net for it if you are a newbie. i have watched a bunch of videos suggesting everything but this. I tried other programs and solutions such as xvidcap and istanbul. I tried using camstudio (great for windows only) by installing it with wine. all crap. VNC capture works but this is the best. I hope you make a ton of money b/c you deserve it. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
@kruxdelacroix windows makes vista? -.- windows never made vista, xp or 7, M$ did that, and vista and the others are like distros of windows, since they are a little different, but is all in all the same...
@secretbadger2 yeah thats my set up. works easiest if you put windows on first and then make sure thenres enough unused space on a seperate partition to install ubuntu on. dont need a lot i have both OS running off a 80gb drive
My, you truly are patient. I lost count of the number of viewers who've asked you about recording in Windows thus far. Aside from that, great work as usual, Wiz. :)
@Awesomeman552 Actually, you can. See WineHQ's AppDB for the versions you have. You can also use PlayOnLinux/Crossover, which might be easier than WINE.
@PCWizKid I use Camtasia Studio, for intros, when I need to speak. But sometimes it kinda jumbles stuff together and puts my words jumbled up. Its hard to explain.
@ramoj02 , you dont zoom with the recording software, you zoom using the desktop effects feature built in Ubuntu , you can enable it and then setup a keyboard shortcut for it.
HI, sound recorder catches my voice fine, but what program do you edit your movies in to splice in the audio? Linux's weakness is video editing. Another thing, I save my file as a .avi (Using mencoder, don't worry, it's in the proper format) yet for whatever reason I cannot open the video file on my mac, thus ruling out iMovie.
Why is that Linux has options that are built in and can be used by typing in a command line. In Windows OS you need a program for everything to do anything.
not all of those features are installed in linux, when he went into the applications screen he was installing the screen recording feature, so he still has to install the program just like windows.
@IckleBanana, I have a PC tripple boot with XP, Vista and Ubuntu on separate partitions. Instead of upgrading on top of Ubuntu 8.10 which I had , I decided to redo the partition and Installed 9.04 fresh. Everything worked no issues for me.
But are 2 gtk-recored my desktops running. One actually recording and one that you are showing in the video because the one you show in the video isn't recording.
I am using a different solution, but i can only get 3 fps, does anyone know if this can be improved with this software? I'm on a AMD 2200+ 1.6GHz, 512 Mb PC running ubuntu, any ideas or am i expecting too much from an old pc?
awh! ubuntu wont install on my dell notebook! if i use wubi i dont get a choice to boot into xp or ubuntu(it boots straight into xp) and the live cd wont work either, it just freezes on the boot menu, help!
When you partition there is a certain button you have to press as your PC is starting up to be able to select your Linux partition or your XP partition.
i think i know what you mean, i can enter the bios by pressing f12 but it only gives me the option to boot from hdd, cd-rom/ dvd-rom or two other ones? their not linux though, i think they are the usb ports. thanks! oh btw when i had windows 7 instaled on a dual boot it would boot fine. :( xp or 7
cool abunto looks great it has all these features or when you search software like you showed does abunto download the program from the web and then installs it or those programs come with abunto???!!!!
oh ok just wonderin and i check the website and this is only for linux (abunto) and GUI tooooo bad it isn for windows because this looks like awesome recording software!!!
Im using windows and dont know much about Ubuntu so, id like to know if "gtk-Record my Desktop" will work on Windows at all, or if its just best compatible with Ubuntu? Please reply

You should use ffmpeg or another utility to convert to AVI and then edit/import into imovie. I import into Sony Vegas for video editing in Windows.
