i hate how the audience is surprised at its level of offense being compared to the N word you simply never know how sharp the blade is when you're holding the handle.
Why is the audience laughing? New York is supposed to be all united with the events that took place at 9/11. I guess we are not as united as we all think?
If the joke was about Chinese I could understand the uproar, but it was a comment on the media. Even over in China they're gonna have this unimportant story was her point. But that's not why ye'all offended. No. If she took three months of Chinese first we'd have no problem! I live in Taiwan. A restaurant here was called "Concentration Camp" w/pics of starving/dying Jews. Really swank place for Taiwanese. Please comment on this if you're really such champs of social justice.
Yea, glad it turned out well, but take a look at Sia's other work where he plays a lot of asian steriotypes. Take a look at Criss Rock's,'Who's more racist, whites or blacks'(hysterically funny, btw). What pisses me off about the whole thing is not Rosies stupid joke, and not Sia's beutifully produced counter punch, it's that this whole thing plays into the hands of the neocons and the desprately in need of a pimp sticking right wing talking heads.
Yaaay. I loved the fact that this ended positively, and that people may have gained something from the entire situation. Right on Rosie for taking the time to make this vlog
I am appreciative to everyone who is not Chinese or even Asian who understand that "ching chong" may not have hurt you directly but that racism in any form hurts everyone. Peace...from someone still trying to have YOUTUBE UNDERSTAND that labelling Thai people as Apes is wrong...see my vids.
Naah i don't think it's such a big deal. Rosie slipped up, Beau caught her and let her know quite firmly that it's not cool for such a famous face to get away with making such ignorant comments, and she knew she was wrong. end of story
Is it never enough. Can't a recogonition of resposibility and wrong doing be enough. She recognized her ignorance. Can't we let it go? Or are we so in love with being outraged that we can't see beyond it.
Well said, the outrage should give way to the the recognition of responsibility. That is in part why I posted this video response, so people had more of the facts that Rosie handled this now better than most people here seemed to know. Two intelligent people CAN learn from each other in peace. Many of us in our world CAN learn from how these two handled this with communication, education, listening,& learning, with open minds and hearts.
Just to be clear - the audio is from before she saw beau's video -the words on the screen are AFTER she saw beau's video. I think it shows she is open to listening and learning. BTW- The term race is outdated false science -like eugenics & hitler- modern science proves one human race with little differences for ethnicities- Ethnicities is a truer term than races.
I guess I should tell the college I attend to change the name of the RACE and Racism class I attend. 2 say there is no term such as race is like saying there is no term such as racism. The word race is not meant to put down anyone, just another word to help distinguish the different ethnic backgrounds people have. Eugenics is eliminating the bad traits in people, historically the bad races. Eugenics is a horrible thing, comparing that 2 the word race is like comparing Apples and Oranges
the college doesn't have to change the name, because that is the historical names and it should be studied, however the term the different races is in part why we have racism, the concept that their are different races based upon a few body traits like skin or hair color is scientifically false, and there was fake science like eugenics developed to support the myth that humans are of different races and some are better than others, -simply not true, -one human race.
Which isn't to say what we call racism doesn't still exist. Racism (although it might be better to call it ethnocentrism) still exists in part because people still believe we are different races and that some are better than others. The discovery of our collective dna and the human genome should have changed that but people aren't educated enough even in colleges.
It is still fairly new science and the idea of different races has been around for a very, very long time, but the scientific facts as we now know them can help to clear some things up if people are better educated about them in this context, but it will take a lot of time and work. But with good people like u, and me, and beau, I think it's worth it.
"Chinese people are Asians" thank u for this is only the 2nd time I've heard this - the 1st time was from my 5 year old granddaughter setting me straight. Out of the mouths of babes :) beau's vid was wonderful & the fact that she apologizes - can't we just accept it?
I love that your granddaughter knows that, gives me such hope. I for one, not only accept that Rosie apologized, -I think it's great. It's why I posted this. Two intelligent people CAN learn from each other in peace. Many of us in our world CAN learn from how these two handled this with communication, education, listening,& learning, with open minds and hearts.
Thanks for posting this, especially the audio, I couldn't find it before. I believe it has been reported that she then stated that people could expect a similar occurence with in the next week, because that is how her brain works. That is possibly what made her apology seem less than sincere.

Sia usually includes a rich amount of sarcasm and hyperbole in his work though.

I thought her remark was silly and stupid. Still "ching-chong" like the N-word? Hey, that's quite bad. Okay, point taken.

wow, and she still calls it an "accent". For some reason, I don't quite believe her apology.
Another thing Rosie, Chinese people are Asians...its not just Chinese and Asians.
Also Rosie, there is no "correct" way to make fun of or mock any race of people.
