I have no type of problem, although I have behaivoral and I am emotionally sick ... I am in a psyco school. And they restrain me like 2 or 3 times a week and I am tired of being in that room ... just because I don't want to take a Time Out, they put me in that room.... I'm old enough to take it on my own. Not only that, but my school know's I hate when people touch me yet they do it for nothing. that is why I need to get restrained, because I figh tback . Maybe next time they shouldn't touch me.
I was in one in the early 70s. Not like this one of course. Mine was totally dark. There was a bathroom, but when I tried to go in there to urinate, it was locked. I couldn't hold it and ended up having an accident (I was 8 or 9). There was a window where the nurses could see me in there. It was locked the old fashioned way with lock and key not electronicised as this here. I was scared to death at the time!
If hey think that that is going to help well they are extremely mistaken. This type of isolation causes more stress outraging the child even further. And for 5-11 year olds? I would think that this casues violence and desperation in the future years of the child because of this experience. These kinds of torture need to be stopped.
I have Aspergers and I know what it's like to be abused, rejected and labelled an "abnormal freak". I know what it's like being an outcast. The world is divided between the so-called normal people and the so-called abnormal people...
this a last resort measure. A child must completely out of control & aggressive towards others. Least restrictive measures must be exhausted first. There are specifc state guidelines at your state's special ed website. If you have never worked with aggressive children it is very hard to understand...specifically most of you wouldn't last 5 secs with the children this room is intended for and think twice about how much u want to "help" and work with children. However these rooms can be abused.
They did this to my son and he has an IQ of about 180+ and does not have autism-but before I swore off vaccines he had a severe reaction to the last MMR vaccine. A severe reaction- later he was assaulted in the school, bullied repetitively and then they did their individual class plan crap-federal dollars-that is what they are going for-not your kids imho. I homeschool him because they were crossing the line-and hiding their inability to keep my kid safe from bullies w/isolation room etc
this is a discrace should not happen to anyone. i work with People with learning difficulties and there no need for this if you know how to interact with the people
I went to a piece of shit school like this. I fucking hated it. I would never hurt anyone but they thought i was insane for some reason so they used to put me in there. But now im at a public highschool and i have an amazing girlfriend who i love more than anything in the world.
yeah, we kick, scratch and bite. It's so cute. There was a prodigy who they discovered had a behavior disorder, aka he was poor, so he wore the same clothes and had pride, thus throwing a fit when anyone said anything. He went crazy and they hd to send him to a special school. I loved him, "you're stupid, but you're not like "them." Thanks.
ITS A FUCKING ATROCITY! This room should be bricked up and forgotten. School "SHOULD" be the fountain of knowledge to quench thirty minds NOT A FUCKING JAIL!
I have never seen one like these before it sick. I think now of days all they want to do is send your kid away or give as many meds as possiable. I have an 11yr boy who is special needs PDD and super smart. He has been kicked out of school and now can't even get home schooling the school district has forced me to have to place my son in Resdestinal and I hate it he my only boy and I am so afarid of what might happen to him there. I wish the government could help parnets like me more crying now
That kind of people does not have the right to live. They are parasites to other humans. They have nothing to contribute to society and they should not be helped. That way they could be sorted out by nature like God almighty ment it to happen
Unbelieveable!!! And of course they put non-verbal kids in who cannot tell thier parents what is happeneing to them in rooms like this all the time. Everyone in schools with stuff like this should pull their special needs kids out of school and homeschool them. Heck most people should do it anyway. I am sick to my stomach about this too.
This is happening in Oregon. My 10 y/o son was frequently restrained and put into a seclusion room in his special education classroom. The seclusion room looked much like the one in this video. I walked into my son's classroom and found him screaming face down on the floor with two adults on top of him. This was done not because of an emergency but for compliance. He was then kicked out of school. How can we stop public schools from using abusive and coersive tactics with our children.
This is happening in Eugene, Oregon. School district 4j has as least 4 of these seclusion rooms with magnetic locks in 4 different elementary schools. My son was subjected to frequent reatraint and seclusion in this type of room for non-emergencies. How can we stop public schools from using abusive and coersive tactics on children?
I'm so mad I could spit! My 4 year old grandson is autistic, and if I EVER hear of anything remotely this horrible happening to him when he starts school, well let's just say I'm like a momma bear when my kiddies are threatened and bullied.
I would like all of the bleeding hearts to find your nearest NPS ( thats non public school) This is where the use of restraint/ seclusion is most often used. Go there and ask to do a job shadow. I think you'll find that after seeing the student behaviors you'll agree with the use of these rooms and restraint. If not please suggest a better method. remember no one like chemo therapy its awful but sometimes its all that'll work
There is a school here that has one of these rooms. It makes me angry that schools are able to do this to children. Wouldn't educating the adults that work in these schools on how to handle problem behavior be a better use of the money that is being spent on creating these rooms?
I am Los Angeles Police. If you have one of this padded cells at your house you would be arrested for child abusing and 10 stoke of the cane.Your son will be able to choose to stay with who when his 15 (reletives or the operanage). The reletive cannot declare that they don't want the children. This law is on Chapter 375.So parents think before you have one of this at home , you maybe also sentence to death. Thanks
@racistdick97 You're a Los Angeles policeman, and your youtube name is racistdick97? I find that hard to believe. By the way, you're wrong. You can't be sentenced to death for having one of these in your home. You're obviously not an officer, you fucking retard, you can barely spell.
I lived in a group home when I was 13 and they had a room like that. The staff have restrained me in this room by pinning me to the floor and sometimes I could not breathe. I think it's sick and inhumane unless your harming yourself or others. All I did was throw a book across the room.
We still have this room at our school. Steel door and no light like the one on here. It scares me we can't see into their lives at school. I wish we had cameras in every room and hall. Maybe a site where the parents can log on and see some of thier childs day?
I was locked up in one of these cages for not doing my homework when I was a freshman in highschool. I waited a few hours to be let out. When the door opened I walked out of school, and walked home. My mom called the fire department, because locking me in a ceil in school is a fire risk. She also had some serious teachers meetings. I was classified as depressed, and I was never mean. I also never acted up at school.
It goes on because there are two forms of rule.. One is for government, its employees, agencies, courts, bureaucracies, etc and the other for the rest of us. I've been put in rooms like this myself, but at least not in the public school system. In some cases, this ios done in pure ignorance. In others it is because of a power trip or punishment.
I am very sad to see this. My autistic son was so mistreated in the school system I started homeschooling. Since I am a single mother, this is a real financial hardship, but every time I doubt my decision, I see something like this. Like hell I will ever trust anyone to take care of my child when he has no way to tell me if things aren't right. Since I started homeschooling, he has improved drastically. Praying for all the children with no voice.

I took my daughter out of a special school becouse she used to get locked in cupbourds, i sneeked in one day as i said i needed the toilet and there was a boy who was being dragged off and he had done nothing wrong. All the children where too quiet. I now homeschool and she is better off now and getting over what happened to her. I'm glad your son has improved. :)

my school has one of these. the way they do it is cruel, one day i thought i heard a security guard making racial threats to one of the students in the room. people are floor restrained in the room. there are a few non-verbal kids, the schools soulution... lock them up in one of the rooms . it is very sad and cruel.

Most people would allow their own children to be RAPED as long as some guy in a suit told them "they were trying to harm themself or others" and that they "Had to rape the child for security reasons". And most people wouldn't even ask for proof. MOST PEOPLE are, by nature, rapists and sadists.
Why else are MOST PEOPLE allowing these places to remain open? The ENTIRE GOVERNMENT is allowing it at once, this is NOT a "few bad apples".
When I was 16 went t a day program and sometimes would end up in a baskethold cuz I am small. It was the popular restrant of the time 1990 cuz it required only one staff to do it. They essentially hold u from behhind crossing your arms over your chest in a hearhug type way. The scary part is the more u struggle the tighter they hold u thinking u r still out of control but sometimes u struggle harder cuz u cant breathe and many children have died in this hold and it is banned in many states now
@tayllor2900 I mostly attacked my parents. My teachers controlled me because I developed an extreme paranoia disorder, so I would pick up on cues and dobby myself, which people like. People shoot me up with drugs now. It's like a giddy trip. No, man, you have to see the glee in their eye when they have that haldol shot.
@returnoftheramble3 they had me on an older drug called Mellaril (forget what age: 9 for sure, maybe 8). NOT FUN. Made me tired, no energy, sluggish, etc. Didn't seem to help emotionally, not at all. My worst indescretion (bad behaviour) was AFTER I was put ON this drug. Go figure *rolls eyes at situation*....*sighs*...
thats very sad. i have two disabled kids and my thoughts are racing now. because neither one of them can talk! i just pray that wouldnt be happening in our school system.
I know of a school that had one, they dont use it at all though. The school was built in 1943 so yeah. The school had it left over from then im sure but there are stories of kids dying in it. They cant get rid of it. When they enter it, they get a strange feeling like its haunted. They dont want to upset the spirits i guess. It is boarded off to the public. It is still in use today, but not the cell. I went inside the cell for a look, got scred and rode my chair away as quick as i could. HAUNTED
wow... ive sang this song on my page, and hearing it now and seeing this vid.. the tears are really flowing.. I was an abused child and it makes me sick to see things like this.. thank you for sharing and letting us all know what is going on...
this hapen all over the place just like in bangor maine kids get restainmolested by staff restain for talking back etc in somthing called the net etc ther being sued at this time by a boy that wos restrain over 50 times as a punishment
Where in Bangor, Maine? I have family attending school there with special needs and am concerned of what you are implying of the staff in that area. I'd like to know what my relatives are being exposed to.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
my school has one of theese. although they are much safer. if a student misbehaves, they are sent there and usually have to wait 30 minutes to get out, even if they shit themselves. i have been there before, it is kind of odd, but it works
Oh, PLEASE. You have no idea what it's like to be restrained as a child. It terrifies you and can scar you for life. Take it from someone who knows. This is a blunt intimidation technique plane and simple.
It is NOT civil OR fair punishment. It is child abuse. And all it does is get kids to grow up and spite society.
I know I am posting alot to this. I have alot to say. Someone said these rooms were built a long time ago and that they are most likely not used now. There are new ones being built at schools all over. They are being used every day. The first one I was in was in 1990, and they were still in use when I was old enough to take myself out of school for my own protection and that was in 1998 and kids were still being locked in them. The lock by the way is a magnetic lock. No way to force it open.
Someone asked if perental permission is on file. Nope. 99% of the time parents have no idea. They use it without parent permission, and some use it anyway even though the parent said don't use it. No parents have to be notified if it's used either. I told my parents about them and they didn't beleive me. They told me they wouldn't do that and I was lieing. It would shock you what staff do to kids, and they doctor incident reports to cover their ass. I dropped out of school for my own safety.
What most parents don't know is just about every special education school has a so called "time out" room. It's just most schools tend to leave it off the tour. You don't find out the school has one till you break a rule and are taken to it. Some are a closet, others are small boxes lined up in a room. I have seen many as I have been put in them since I was 10 years old. It's not right. They don't even let you out of them to pee. You either hold it, pee yourself or pee on the floor. That's it.
I have been in many so called "Time out" rooms. Some with and without doors. Was put in my first one at 10 years old. Similar to the one in the video. I was diagnosed PTSD about 6 years ago due to the abuse in psych hospitals used as a punishment by my mom. And from being locked in solitary rooms, tied to beds and a spinal injury from being "restrained" I take narcotic pain killers and will be in diapers for the rest of my life from the spinal injury. Yea, the hospital helped so much. NOT!!!
They have one (I saw one, they possibly have two in the building) of these in the ABIL room at SHARP Alternative School in Mesa School District. The only light is from a peephole in the door. I wasn't allowed to take a photo. Could someone try to get a video? It's disgusting!
i have heard of a school like this and the problem is most of these places focus only on negative. when the child becomes violent or aggressive instead of trying to find out the cause, they use abusive measures be it physical or mental/verbal abuse.sometimes you can win by reporting the issue but most times the people in charge tell you to restrain or abuse. its a losing battle. the kids are people too, people forget that
I remember a school doing this to my child at a school I will not mention because my daughter is 21 yrs old, gone from that school now. But, yes I questioned the school, no answer to calm my emotion seeing my child hurting like that block between two large bookcases over six feet tall. She was wet and nose very snutty. I was so upset, all I could do is take my child home.
I am mildly on the spectrum.I went to a Catholic School in Canada. This is considered ILLEGAL in Canada, and is unlawful confinement under the criminal Code of Canada.I was treated well by most teachers in my school.I was mild enough on the spectrum that I was in the general population tho.
Apparently not, at least not ten year ago, because I spent some serious time in 'reflection'. I don't fault the teachers though: I was a crazy wild kid and there wasn't a whole lot else they could do with me without risking injury. So, um, yeah.
Me too. Why don't people understand why children have disabilities. I have disability too. I have metal retardation. So I guess that we disabled people and children don't have the freedom of speech any more. That's why I agree with you. I understand what you are going through because I went through it myself.
y would any person on this earth do tht :'( its dispickable :'( I feel so sorry 4 the kids who had to go though nd I hope it doesnt EVA happen again!!!!!
This is a public school and these rooms are throughout America. There is a difference between bad behaviors and meltdowns. Staff isnt trained to deal with these kids so they just put them in these jail rooms as it makes there jobs easier. BTY due to the parental involvement in this district the restraint room has been torn down.
@AutismNewsDotCom what they do is they manipulate to make it seem like it's the kid's fault, thus turning your entire family against you. It was the environment. It was a vaccine. You have to be aggressive in dealing with us. We're dangerous. That's always a good one, especially when I was like 3 feet tall. Every kid is different, very few would behave badly if EVERYONe wasn't harming them. We can't say anything because it's always our fault.
i hate being alive but my animal drive for survival keeps me going and my desire to punish the people who torture me because, again, I'm a fuckig animal. I want to be an experiment.
These are children with disabilities they are troubled in part because of people like you. Thank you for telling the world this room is the norm...... What are the children learning by being locked up & punished by restraints? NOTHING!
the soviet union had it down, man, take them away and quietly kill them. we just turn into useless adults that society feeds off of, uses to distract. oh, i'm a champion. you have to see my 'sins.' the only reason we survive as children is because our mothers have some weird hormones that make them want to protect us. it isn't their fault.
hi i just wanted to share i was in special ed in school to all through and when i went to one school in delaware it was public they had a time out room there with no windows and there would be a little desk in there thats were the school supplies were kept on shelfs that stacked up tp the ceiling but anyways i remember that the teacher used to put me and other kids in there for different behaviors i remember my little boyfriend whent in there and he got so mad cause they would close the door.
That is definitely incredibly sad. I heard about autistic people being locked up, so I decided to research it. This is the first piece I found. Thanks for the video, although it is very sobering.
Dude i am so going to beat the shit out of peopel who support that shit using a lwayer and the so called "Legal system" aint gonan do shit time to use ur fists and a either or a few autamatic weapons >:) so u bastards that think they cna do this shit and get off scott free are gonan be proven wrong
This partiular shoolshould be shut down for this! I may not be a parent, but my younger brother has autism, and if this ever happened to him I would sue!
im extremely clausterphobic, i would punch that window out and flip out, i have a brother with autism, i think this is down right bullshit, you cant even trust schools, and institutes, supposedly to "help" kids, but more die from restaints "accidents". if a parent would hold a kid down causing them an injury they'd be put in jail, so why should a staff member be allowed to with no consicquence.
I think this is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. It makes me physically ill to think of all of the children over the years that have been put in this cell. They don't deserve this treatment, they deserve a calm adult who can talk them down from a tantrum.
In a inpatinet psych facility..I can see a room like this. When my then 9 yo on with ASD was hospitalized there were"quiet rooms" but they were at least painted cheerfully on the inside and staff observed the patients when they needed this type of seclusion. But in our schools....with appropriate medical supervison..that's downright shameful and scary !!!!
Parents listen up, if you want your child to have a good education, don't put them in special education classes, they will get the watered-down education. Not only that, they will go through Discrimination by their peers, body slam by their bully teachers and wind up in segregation. It will be like North Korea in special Ed nothing but isolation from world.
no one can anymore trust schools or Teachers they are not longer that special person everyone love, they are there for the money -we leave our children thinking they are in good hands and they are nothing but monsters that deserve to be pusnish by the Law in all its power.
I've been to those types of rooms MANY times at schools I've attended. I have autism, and I was put in those rooms when I got out of control like most autistics and then the staff dragged me to the room. Those rooms are good as a quiet place for an autistic to go when there is too much stimulation, but there are terrible when It's a punishment room that you are locked into.
exactly...they are also putting the childs life at risk...What if there is a fire and the lock wont unlock because of the fire, or the staff just leave the child...it would be the same thing as sticking them in an oven like in Nazi Germany
Yeah I know what you mean, I also have Autism and it is one thing to have a quiet room to be able to go into, but to be locked in against will is terrible, I would be suing for a lot of money.
This is yet another reason why I homeschool my children. You just do not know what is going on while your children are at school.
My daughter has CP and is non-verbal. I shudder to think what would happen to her if she did something that a teacher deemed "disruptive."
She can not speak, so I would never know. Becasue she is homeschooled, I will never have to worry about this. My heart breaks for families that do have to worry.
@Mealster I have cerebral palsy. I was kicked out of kindergarden in a normal school and then locked up in a psychiatric hospital for 18 months. I was injured many times by the other patients and force-fed by the staff. I don't remember much else, thank God. Later, I was sent to a special school where I was put in a storage room for punishment.
I had my files pulled from the hospital. My psych hid most of the details for fear it would drive me over the edge.
@Mealster I was sent away for 18 months for isolating myself. My parents physically and emotionally abused me. I was shaken and thrown on a bed, had my nose rubbed in my own poop. My parents treated me like I was retarded. They blame me for being sent away at age 5. Blamed me when surgery backfired. They called me a disappointment and yelled at me constantly to the point where I moved out. They threatened to institionalize me all the time and tried to after I had lived on my own for 14 years.
@Mealster My case manager was told by my parents that I was easier to manipulate while in pain. I am now on morphine, in constant pain, a physical and emotional wreck, suicidal. I have to wonder what happened in that hospital to make me feel like a criminal. I am estranged from my family. I am facing surgery that may kill me and can't tell my family for fear they would take the opportunity to institutionalize me again
Oh my god this is unbelievable. Those in charge of this torture on the children should be put and kept in that jail room FOREVER. This is really disturbing.
Sorry my'n Englisch is not good enough to write what I think of this, but it is a great shame, that this can happen in the 21 censury.Good that someone shows this.
This video proves schools have more rights than parents when it comes to punishing & disciplining kids. If a parent had a room like this in their home and put their kid it they'd go to jail. A parent doesn't even have to do that to their get to get in trouble. If a parent spanks their kid they go to jail. But schools can do what they want to kids and nothing will happen.
I - as a human rights activist - have to say, that this is the most disturbing picture I have seen so far. There has to be an organisation to stop schools (and maybe even hospitals or asylums that use that "method") by showing it to everybody. We all have to get together - ALL OVER THE WORLD - and help children. Because children are not only our future but also ours to protect, no matter what illness or disability they have!
@kinskifreak I agree with you here! This is sick what people do to the children. the children even though they have a disability will grow up and remember this and it will scare them!. I who looks after disabled children wish to help children whether it be autism, physically disabled, mentally disabled!
This is sick. And I have to say, don't blame all the underpaid nurses and staff, but the higher greedy fatcats who cut public spending. Those poor children.
One thing to consider is that this school was built in 1909 when it was common for children to be punished by isolation, corporal punishment & etc. It's unfair to assume this room is still being used. The principal of Lincoln Elementary would NEVER allow that type of punishment. The PUSD teachers and staff are wonderful. While the superintendent has issues with budgeting, I'm quite certain he wouldn't allow this type of punishment. This video is interesting, sad, but irrelevant for today
The Lincoln school was built in 1930. The restraint room was constructed in 1997.
We have video of a student who was in the room and know of several other instances where it was used this year. I agree that the teachers are wonderful. They just do what the superintendent deems as part of their jobs.
If your information is correct - then I agree a better soultion must be in place. Special needs children deserve the best eduacation, treatment and funding. Any funding for special needs should be allocated for their programming. I am truly amazed this room was built in 1997, as it looks like it's a throw-back from 100 years ago. Do the parents of those special needs children know this room is being used? How do they feel about it? Are children locked in there alone? Just trying to get facts.
This is devastating and one of the cruelest things in the world :(
It really hurts me and breaks my heart. I am studying to be an early childhood teacher, and i expect and will be a kind one, helping and not torturing innocent children.....This is too sad :(
Very sad, these rooms(prison cells) aren't fit for animals let alone children. Absolutely disgusting :( Those behind such treatment should be ashamed of themselves. Lock them up and see how they like it!
I mean we go through so much training and there are so many laws against childabuse and I sign a legal document to report abuse and on and on and on and on, If something like this happened at my school someone would be going to jail but the thing is it would never happen at my school. Maybe it's different for private schools. But I know it is illegal so I don't know what is going on with other schools, I need more information about this please.
I just need some more verifiable sources for this not because I am being an antagonist but just because I can't wrap my head around this and I've been thinking about it all day. Tonight was a huge event at my school and even then, I would find myself lost in my thoughts thinking about this because I just can not believe that this is at all true, it's just too upsetting.
Horrifying and all too believable...man's inhumanity towards those who are "different" is well documented through history, but I had hoped that in the US, we had advanced beyond this level of barbarity.
Treating a child this way is criminal. Thank you for bringing this out.
we are not the problem, we are the solution >.<

yeah, we kick, scratch and bite. It's so cute. There was a prodigy who they discovered had a behavior disorder, aka he was poor, so he wore the same clothes and had pride, thus throwing a fit when anyone said anything. He went crazy and they hd to send him to a special school. I loved him, "you're stupid, but you're not like "them." Thanks.

therapeutic ways to help them that work. WE DO NOT USE RESTRAINTS. If we can do that for strong confused adults why can't they do that for children.
1. get on their level
2. make eye contact.
3. soft but assertive speech
4. offer support for troubled feelings
5. DO NOT STAND ABOVE THEIR HEADS

How can we stop public schools from using abusive and coersive tactics with our children.
friendofjared1 1 year ago
This is happening in Eugene, Oregon. School district 4j has as least 4 of these seclusion rooms with magnetic locks in 4 different elementary schools. My son was subjected to frequent reatraint and seclusion in this type of room for non-emergencies. How can we stop public schools from using abusive and coersive tactics on children?

I would like all of the bleeding hearts to find your nearest NPS ( thats non public school) This is where the use of restraint/ seclusion is most often used. Go there and ask to do a job shadow. I think you'll find that after seeing the student behaviors you'll agree with the use of these rooms and restraint. If not please suggest a better method. remember no one like chemo therapy its awful but sometimes its all that'll work

Hi,
I am Los Angeles Police. Thanks

Since I am a single mother, this is a real financial hardship, but every time I doubt my decision, I see something like this.

They cant get rid of it. When they enter it, they get a strange feeling like its haunted. They dont want to upset the spirits i guess. It is boarded off to the public. It is still in use today, but not the cell. I went inside the cell for a look, got scred and rode my chair away as quick as i could. HAUNTED

HenryJTwist 2 years ago
No. It doesn't work. All it does is get kids scared and make them act out of spite.

Stanley19802 2 years ago 2
They're definitely being used now, there's a brand new school that was just built in our area that has a brand new padded room to go along with it.
akwaco 2 years ago
Someone asked if perental permission is on file. Nope. 99% of the time parents have no idea. They use it without parent permission, and some use it anyway even though the parent said don't use it. No parents have to be notified if it's used either. I told my parents about them and they didn't beleive me. They told me they wouldn't do that and I was lieing. It would shock you what staff do to kids, and they doctor incident reports to cover their ass. I dropped out of school for my own safety.
Stanley19802 2 years ago 2
What most parents don't know is just about every special education school has a so called "time out" room. It's just most schools tend to leave it off the tour. You don't find out the school has one till you break a rule and are taken to it. Some are a closet, others are small boxes lined up in a room. I have seen many as I have been put in them since I was 10 years old. It's not right. They don't even let you out of them to pee. You either hold it, pee yourself or pee on the floor. That's it.
Stanley19802 2 years ago
I have been in many so called "Time out" rooms. Some with and without doors. Was put in my first one at 10 years old. Similar to the one in the video. I was diagnosed PTSD about 6 years ago due to the abuse in psych hospitals used as a punishment by my mom. And from being locked in solitary rooms, tied to beds and a spinal injury from being "restrained" I take narcotic pain killers and will be in diapers for the rest of my life from the spinal injury. Yea, the hospital helped so much. NOT!!!

i have heard of a school like this and the problem is most of these places focus only on negative. when the child becomes violent or aggressive instead of trying to find out the cause, they use abusive measures be it physical or mental/verbal abuse.sometimes you can win by reporting the issue but most times the people in charge tell you to restrain or abuse. its a losing battle. the kids are people too, people forget that

This is a public school and these rooms are throughout America. There is a difference between bad behaviors and meltdowns. Staff isnt trained to deal with these kids so they just put them in these jail rooms as it makes there jobs easier. AutismNewsDotCom 2 years ago

I've been to those types of rooms MANY times at schools I've attended. I have autism, and I was put in those rooms when I got out of control like most autistics and then the staff dragged me to the room. Those rooms are good as a quiet place for an autistic to go when there is too much stimulation, but there are terrible when It's a punishment room that you are locked into.

true. also a electronic lock THAT is harsh. i mean really!
those rooms for overstimulation sounds fishy especially makes me wonder if they knew of the condition or were neglecting it.

exactly...they are also putting the childs life at risk...What if there is a fire and the lock wont unlock because of the fire, or the staff just leave the child...it would be the same thing as sticking them in an oven like in Nazi Germany

Your daughter is lucky to have you.

Oh my god this is unbelievable. Those in charge of this torture on the children should be put and kept in that jail room FOREVER. This is really disturbing.

@cne08: You are absolutely right, if parents have stricter guidelines, then the same damn thing should ALWAYS apply to schools, too.

I - as a human rights activist - have to say, that this is the most disturbing picture I have seen so far. There has to be an organisation to stop schools (and maybe even hospitals or asylums that use that "method") by showing it to everybody. We all have to get together - ALL OVER THE WORLD - and help children. Because children are not only our future but also ours to protect, no matter what illness or disability they have!
kinskifreak 2 years ago 6
@kinskifreak I agree with you here! This is sick what people do to the children. the children even though they have a disability will grow up and remember this and it will scare them!. I who looks after disabled children wish to help children whether it be autism, physically disabled, mentally disabled!

This is sick. And I have to say, don't blame all the underpaid nurses and staff, but the higher greedy fatcats who cut public spending. Those poor children.

A word: Torture :(

One thing to consider is that this school was built in 1909 when it was common for children to be punished by isolation, corporal punishment & etc. It's unfair to assume this room is still being used. The principal of Lincoln Elementary would NEVER allow that type of punishment. The PUSD teachers and staff are wonderful. While the superintendent has issues with budgeting, I'm quite certain he wouldn't allow this type of punishment. This video is interesting, sad, but irrelevant for today
TheMauigal 2 years ago
The Lincoln school was built in 1930. The restraint room was constructed in 1997.
We have video of a student who was in the room and know of several other instances where it was used this year. I agree that the teachers are wonderful. They just do what the superintendent deems as part of their jobs.
Speak out = get fired. Its that simple.

This is one of the most horrible things I've ever seen! How dare ANYONE call this humane! These people should be prosecuted... to say the least!!

Very sad, these rooms(prison cells) aren't fit for animals let alone children. Absolutely disgusting :( Those behind such treatment should be ashamed of themselves. Lock them up and see how they like it!

This is inexcusable. No one deserves this kind of treatment:least of all an innocent child.

Apaulling ! It just goes to show how misplaced trust can be, in teachers /schools who are supposed to nurture & protect our children.

I would like to say that there are alot of Great Teachers within this district.
The problem rests with the Superintendent and Board that rule the district like the Soviet Union.
They have absolutely ruined our wonderful town!!!!
Parents teachers and students are subject to strict retaliation measures if they speak out.
AutismNewsDotCom 2 years ago
I mean we go through so much training and there are so many laws against childabuse and I sign a legal document to report abuse and on and on and on and on, If something like this happened at my school someone would be going to jail but the thing is it would never happen at my school. Maybe it's different for private schools. But I know it is illegal so I don't know what is going on with other schools, I need more information about this please.
CamusKitten 2 years ago
I just need some more verifiable sources for this not because I am being an antagonist but just because I can't wrap my head around this and I've been thinking about it all day. Tonight was a huge event at my school and even then, I would find myself lost in my thoughts thinking about this because I just can not believe that this is at all true, it's just too upsetting.
CamusKitten 2 years ago
CamusKitten,
There is a lot more to this situation than meets the eye. At this district.
Parents that cause problems in this district are told to move.
Parents are reported to CPS for no reason other than retaliation.
Parents of students born in the USA with Mexican parents have been threatened with deportation.
Advocates have been arrested for criminal charges that are no more than trumped up civil disputes.
The school where this is still at.
Lincoln Elementary. Prescott Arizona

Horrifying and all too believable...man's inhumanity towards those who are "different" is well documented through history, but I had hoped that in the US, we had advanced beyond this level of barbarity.
Treating a child this way is criminal. Thank you for bringing this out.
