  • "Our leaders SAID this was an infant empire, therefore it was. Our leaders SAY the embargo on Cuba is to promote democracy, therefore it's not." Come on man, either what our leaders say is something to be taken seriously or not - don't pick and choose just to prop up the argument.

  • jealous.

  • You know what would be helpful would be subtitles, they make it easier to follow what he is saying and allow for deeper analysis, and understanding, plus you can pause and do research or look up words or terms that you don't understand or have not been aware of..if this is possible please consider

    thanks!!!

  • "...by that argument, Stalin's goal was to bring democracy into the world. That's what he said after all -_-" LOL Chomsky is amazing

  • Great and rare American. Light of a generation. Finest thinker of the latter 20th century.

  • I would also like to thank the person or persons behind this channel for posting so many recent videos of lectures, interviews and talks by Chomsky. He's 81 now, and we probably won't have him around much longer, so the more of him that can be committed to record the better.

  • Bertrand Russel got to like 97

  • True, but Chomsky is looking and sounding increasingly frail. I think the schedule he keeps is catching up with him.

  • I cant see anything

  • yes.. and he lost his wife last year.. i cant help wondering if it affects too :´-(

i hope he takes some rest and takes care of himself.

  • His wife's death surely affects him. If you've seen the film "Rebel Without a Pause" about him, his wife is revealed to be someone who helps him with his talks and travels, protects him from overexploitation, and insures that he doesn't overwork himself.

  • Name a thinker who wasn't rich or at least accommodated. I think you don't have a right to criticize him as he's light years ahead of you intellectually. At least he denounces injustice unlike the Mtv stars and billionaires you probably admire. Please, have some dignity and don't flaunt your ignorance next time.

  • kraeron: I have no intellectual vanity; your insults are wasted on me.

So i think i will say it again " Chomsky talks the talk but he sure has heck dont walk the walk "

  • Talking the talk is walking the walk. He's a committed activist. He spends 5-6 hours a night responding to emails. He spends the rest of his day reading papers and journals. He somehow finds the time to give more talks than any other person that I know of. He's 80 years old. He's a millionaire? That's trivial. If its a major concern to you, you simply don't have your priorities ranked appropriately.

  • mdoob11: when Che Guevara lived in a town house during his brief life in Cuba do you think he was a Millionaire? do u think he was even Rich? why didnt Che Guevara want to be rich?

" It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

Can a person be both monied and moral?

  • Indeed, how could you have intellectual vanity? For that you'd have to have some decent education, and I mean the education that makes you think, not the one that makes you accept things as they are. May you explain what you mean with "walk the walk"? Or will you repeat yourself like a parrot? He does indeed walk the walk, telling people what most governments don't want you to know, if that's what you meant...

  • Kraeron: Chomsky shares information He doesnt do anything!

  • Do what? Be another dead hero for the people like che guevara? some people fight with guns, others fight with words. He is an inspiration for a whole generation, and his example of denouncing the lies of the state will be inspiring for this new generations.

  • Limp loser. He did more than you will ever do! He is a tangible example of activism. "Shares" encyclopedic "information" & sticks his neck out in public and writes numerous scholarly books on the media control, Politics, Linguistics, World Affairs etc? U haven't done anything probably!

  • Millionaire?? What are you, nuts? Although I don't doubt that Chomsky has made a lot of money from his books, and is well-compensated as a Professor at MIT, I seriously doubt he's anywhere close to being a millionaire. But even if he was, who cares? He certainly earned it, unlike too many other millionaires in this country.

  • What do you mean walk the walk?

He's been talking about cooperation, solidarity ,social activism , equality and exposing Imperial powers & practices for what they. And he's been an active participant in all these matter ; Open forum discourses all around the world , research in forms of propaganda , anti-war protest etc.

The guy "walked" more in a year than you or i will ever in our lives.

  • Yes he can because he didn't utilize capitalism by exploiting others and destroying economies . He got there by telling the truth with such lucidity. He is not anti capitalist LimpLoser, he is anti- deregulation and privatization.

  • tomestubbs: " Yes he can because he didn't utilize capitalism by exploiting others "

His books are printed and bound in a factory in China or Indonesia.

  • Prove it! You assume that just because your exploitive predators R doing this Chomsky's publishers R also. Frankluy Guilt by association is a fallacy in my opinion anyway. I'll look @ his books to C if that is true and "I'll get back to Ya." LOL!

  • Well Limploser, I check Hegemony or Survival, Failed states, Deterring Democracy and The Chomsky Reader, guess what they were all printed in the US, in somecases numerour X's. Chomsky actually states that we need a market economy but it has 2 B fair and competitive not protectionist or distorted by Wallstreet etc.

  • Of course! What ever U say! You'd prefer the US to remain @ an underachievement mentally marginalized by the media level of equillibrium rather than the high level of intellect and social justice achieved by Chomsky, Its less intimidating to those of U who think in Black and White terms and Faux Net soundbites a$ talking points only!

  • Well Limloser. I'm a rich fuck also but like Chomsky I contribute something for the betterment of this world! I'n not into Rational Self-interest, it fails as a philosophy-Ayn Rand is not a good model in this age. Do U mean Pussy as in Pusillanimous (it's original connotation) or the vulgar pejorative? He is certainly no coward and he has a lot of integrity and character, so what do U mean?

  • tomesstubbs: " He is certainly no coward and he has a lot of integrity and character, so what do U mean? "

Firstly most Jews are cowardly--this is an objective fact-- consider their passivity in Hitlers war and their brutal oppression of the innocent Palestinians.

Secondly you say that you are rich. this is immoral, that much is clear from the New Testament and every Faith and respected person --dissedent or otherwise-- from around the world, past and present.

  • I am as rich as any hard working individual. I am ethical in how I earn it and give a considerable sum to charities (more % of than any church which is about 10% if that) I am an Atheist which puts me in a place of secular enlightenment oriented ethics like the US founding fathers. Christ was wealthy by the way he wore the sign of the Dove. I agree w/ U where it concerns Zionist cowardice, their conduct against Palestinians are war crimes against humanity.

  • tomestubbs: This is your problem as i see it: you unconciously think that a tiered Hierarchy of wealth is acceptable ( Due to your culture ) this is staggering to most people.

This belief in you is enforced by the Economic Jargon that views humans as a means of production ( a kind of tool for the benefit of other humans )...............

The website ' Wikipedia ' has concisely organized all of the different terms and sub-terms for Economic Systems; seen like this side by side u realize its shit

  • wrong here limploser. Frankly I am highly into giving money to such causes as Dr.s without Borders, any cause regarding african Nations, Activism regarding Palestinian Rights, Anti war issues, My UU congregation and securing my family in a sustainable way etc. My monetary wealth is about $65000 a year gross, my real wealth is in the value of knowledge, reducing my carbon footprint, being a great teacher and artist. I like Chomsky knows that this world needs a market economy, imperialism fails!

  • tomestubbs: what do u make of his Anarchist ideas then?

  • This Anarchosyndicalism? was an idea he had early on based on the Spannish model that worked successfully before it got corrupted and taken over by corporatist-government actions. It is the opposite to Centralized totalitarian government which are tyrranical in nature. Now he sees it a little differently I think but having local banks rather than central banks is a good idea, also socialized medicine and other programs stands strong w/ him. Privatized is a very bad idea especially unregulated.

  • Oh yes the opposite of Anarchy is Monarchy, of which too many governments want to ascribe and Corporations R by nature. Look up Chomsky on Anarchy on youtube it is interesting in actuality there are freedoms created by lack of a centralized gov. or worse yet an oligarchy etc or an Oligarchy that controls/owns the gov. etc

  • I think authority would b the opposite of anarchy.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes I equate Authoritarianism w/ Centralized totalitarian structure, A monarchy "Les Tat Cest Moi" Sun King is such an example of Authoritarianism. Double High Authoritarians R the worst according 2 John Dean's book "Conservatives without conscious and the masses which R unfortunately Authoritarian followers--very bad news!

  • "He ( too my knowledge ) has yet to write the book of his Anarchist version of utopian Econmics."

Because his focus is on the here and now not on utopian fantasies, but that said he has spoken in broad terms about what an society constructed along the lines of anarcho-syndicalism & libertarian-socialism might be like. You could search youtube for 'Chomsky anarchy' - the fact that you deny knowledge of such readily available information speaks of your intellectual dishonesty

  • You know, that name really suits you for some reason.

  • tomestubbs: He is Anti- Capitalist in Big Bright Glowing NEON lettering.

If Capitalism must persist he is anti-deregulation and privatization, however, He has said Capitalism needs to be scrapped utterly.

  • Not true Limploser! He said that a Market economy must be fair and that the present system has to be scrapped due to corruption--You know the corporatocracy, Central Banks and other asshole need to be scrapped big time. Localization of banks 2 serve the vested interests of local communities sounds better than a privatized central bank calling the shots!

  • tomestubbs: Chomsky thinks States are illegitimate entities; so by taking away the 2 most distateful parts of Capitalism ( deregulation and privaization )

i ask you my friend how in the name of sanity would such things as Anti-Privatization and Anti-deregulation exist without the State?

    daydreams?

deregulation and Privatization ( State Sponsered Capitalism ) as Chomsky calls it, is the Lynch-pin of Capitalism.

  • Privatization and Deregulation is the attempt to destroy Government oversight of predatory capitalism. Well obviously you haven't read any Chomsky. Your view here is tooo simple-minded & Ayn Randian!

  • no they're recent developments to remove public participation in life. You cant make decisions on fresh water or public transport when its been sold to an unaccountable tyrany, it also has some interesting effects on the undesirable elements of society

  • KentAllard: the Government giving Infrastructures away to big business.

Whats the alternative? Chomsky doesnt believe Governments should exist so how can they do it if they dont exist?..........................................I guess as soon as he writes his ' Anarchist Utopian Economics' book we will find out.

  • like all ronbots you ignore the much worse tyrany of the corporation

how would they be ideally run? by the community they operate in with participation of the workers

Still haven't check the source I recommended

  • I don't want to speak for him, but ; From my perspective Chomsky opposes primarily concentration of capital power in the form of corporate institutions. In terms of a capitalist society where "money talks" & everything has a price , it follows that the social structures will reflect decisions, direction & purpose of those with the most capital assets.

All this being said , he's position is not a prohibition on making money , simply that that it shouldn't dictate social needs: Laws, budget etc.

  • And strictly from a personal stand point , i think that its the most common form of misinterpretation of social though; That it inevitably opposes making money and we should all be miserable together... Its not nothing of the sort , its a simple idea that those with money should be more privileged in the decision making , what with everyone being equal and all.

  • I guess it should read: "those with money SHOULDN'T be more privileged"

Damn Freudian slip ; Me and my labor induced over specialized minimum wage high class mentality, i was a capitalist all along !

  • You know money is important to quality of life so why should anyone be content in a system where a few have so much and so many have nothing or just enough to keep them going at a unnecessary low quality...are you saying that people should just bend and accept and tolerate a system that is so unequal?

  • Good grief man , did you even bother reading what i wrote?

  • silversalvo: i read what u wrote acutely.

  • Seems like you didn't understand it.

I said a common misconception of social thoughts was "it opposes making money ..." i implied that it is not the case, therefore Chomsky making money isn't a Ideological contradiction.

Your position boils down to Arguments from repetition, Appeals to poverty , Genetic fallacies and so on and so forth, And making it it rhyme doesn't make it right either... it probably some other kind of fallacy , in any event its just silly.

  • Having a few million dollars , from writing books and being a university professor isn't an example of decadence or excess...and it don't think it goes against his principles, finally what do you want a man like Noam Chomsky doing? working at a gas station? What other options does he have? I think the amount of money he has is fair, though I am in favor of wealth ceilings and income/living standard floors...

  • Not to take low paying blue collar jobs like this for granted or to assume these types of workers are unintelligent. These are the types of workers that could use extra benefits, government programs, like education incentive, a type of work/continuing education program, living wage, lower hours, benefits, transportation benefits like a government issued completely electric car, home computer and internet services, benefits that improve quality of life to a level that creates more equal existence.

  • catgumart: yeh. why not give those peasants --those two legged beasts as Chomsky calls them-- why not give those peasants who toil in factories a bone or two. Good thinking. you have genuine concern for strangers.

  • That is unfair and is excellent example of sarcasm and cynicism. Well I think ideas like this show a concern far more compassionate and generous than what is currently available, or what a conservative right winger would consider..sorry to hear that you are so skeptical..

  • 1) what exactly do you expect MIT to pay its professors?

    2) you demand objectivity and yet your evidence is someones racial/religious 'heritage' - lol

    3) working class background which he has not left behind - are you suggesting he should have been in a shack in Montana next to the Unabomba? In which case what are you doing with a computer and internet access and electricity?

  • KentAllard:

Q1) what exactly do you expect MIT to pay its professors?

    A) whatever the people who clean the toilets at MIT get; around 10 dollars per hour--or whatever toilet cleaners at MIT make.

Q2) you demand objectivity and yet your evidence is someones racial/religious 'heritage' - lol

    A) He is a monied Jew ( whats racist about that? ) many Jews are not rich, He is however.

    Q3) *

    A) He could publish his books free on the internet ( Ebook ) or Audiobook.

  • true there is a disparity, if you at all bothered to check what you're talking about you'd discover he has covered this - however what do you know of Chomskys relationship with the people working at MIT in such a capacity?

you haven't explained what racial/religious 'heritage' has to do with this - is the mere accusation with no explanation of what it implies proof enough, if so then proof of what? Or is the fact in and of itself a crime?

  • continued:

Plenty has been made available, there is a website and znet you know (plus plenty more has been provided without permission and of course there libraries), but why are you demanding this?

Has Chomsky ever disagreed with the moral right of an author?

Someone who reckons the workers ought to run the factory would hardly hold the view that an author should not benefit from their writings.

  • thanks

  • Thanks Chomskyan!

  • Thank you so much for these videos. Seriously.

I mean, really, thank you (Chomsky serves as one of the ultimate compass of lucid thinking when it comes to searching for information about the Americas, specially when it comes to subjects like Chavez, Morales, social movements etc that are treated in the private media here in the same way they are portrayed in the US media).

  • Thank you for posting this guys. Chomsky is amazing.
