Is there a purpose NOT to touch the chest with the barbell while pressing? I don't either but it seems to be the norm among regular lifters & builders. Personally it's annoying.
@nutthuggersexposed Never compare yourself to other people man, the important thing is that you are constantly improving upon your own image, in reps, in the mirror or even mentally. Feels much better this way training for self-improvement and not to be the best.
I have a question though; is it good to do Triceps twice a week? Like Triceps on monday along with Chest and then Triceps on thursday along with Biceps?
@hockeystar404555 no, form is NOT personal preference. If you want excellent gains you practise excellent form. That said, Tuan's form is excellent - I'm not sure why people are hating on it.
honestly if you bench with a barbell you're gonna run into shoulder issues when you've gone the heaviest you can go cuz its unnatural for your arms to stay straight when you press forward
Tuan, I have a question for you: When we warm-up, should we use a faster pace? A lot of trainers say we have to use a faster pace to warmup but I see some great bodybuilders using a slow pace. Any difference on this? Please reply. Thank you
you know when you touch your chest, its really hard on your shoulders. 90 degrees is all you need when you bench press. Any lower than that, your transfering the weight to your shoulders. I would think you would know something like that.
@jblove53 90 degrees is mainly all tricep, if you dont go all the way down your missing out on a lot of chest gains. When you the bench the bar should go down near your nipple above that could hurt the shoulders.
@xAznnique you're right - however going that far actually puts pressure on your shoulders, irrelevant of where it is when you bring it all the way down. It's how I suffered a shoulder cuff impingement. dumbell presses are much safer and you can work the chest more.
@torment3d Everyone is different ive been heavy benching for more then a year to my chest and no shoulder pain at all, If you have shoulder problems then by all means do what best suits you and to say dumbell presses work your chest more depends on persons body i find my best gains are from bench press then dumbell press but i do mix it up.
@xAznnique nah man lol. It's only tricep when your hands are positioned closer. Trust me, having the bar touch your chest is a old school way or bench pressing bro lol. Your chances of blowing out your shoulder are extremely high when you go below 90 degrees. Trust me i know people who have damaged rotator cuffs because of it. Your not missing out on chest gains lol. When you go below 90 degrees, a lot of that weight is on your shoulders then. Trust me lol. I know what im talking about
Your tricep is mostly engaged when your arms are about to lock out, the point from your chest to 90 degree is mostly all chest cause your arms isnt really locking out yet until you go past that 90 degree up is when your locking out your arms more making changing the ratio of how much the chest is worked to your tricep.
When people do close grip is cause your arms extend further out then let say a wide grip so tricep is engaged longer. Try it measure your arms when you do a close grip
This guy is a personal trainer so he SHOULD know that people who touch their chest, although they run a greater risk for damaging their shoulder, its still okay to do if they feel comfortable. Go 90 degrees is just as effective. Roughneckasian should know that considering he is a "personal trainer" like he says he is
@jblove53 And yes if people have shoulder problems in the begining then they shouldnt go below 90 but if you dont have any shoulder problems you should go to your chest for good chest gains and if you develop shoulder injury from it is cause of your lack of recovery, nutrition, rest or your form is just really bad with heavy weight.
@xAznnique nah man lol. Ask ya boy roughneckasian. He is a personal trainer lol. You don't have to touch your chest for great gains. You can go 90 dregrees and get the same results lol. Trust me i know. Touching your chest is a old skool way of bodybulding. do your research and shut up
@jblove53 it takes more effort to go all the way down and push all the way, how do you get the same results if somebody just go 90 degree.. use common sense just cause its old doesn't mean it's bad.
@xAznnique never said it was bad. It takes more effort cuz a lot of the weight has been transfered to your shoulders. You are getting the same results man in chest gains. You just putting the more strain on your shoulders when you go below 90 degrees not your chest lol
@jblove53 Well you do your way and ill do my, tuan been working out for clearly a long time and touching his chest works for him and it works for me i only feel it working my chest and tricep barly any feeling for my shoulders.
@slicky342 For me its to get a much more substantial and even burn keeping the muscles confused. I tried this 3 times already with biceps and I can feel a dramatic difference because of the varying amount of weight coupled with the amount of reps.
Ima big enthusist on great triceps so I gotta ask.... How did u get your triceps to dominate your arm like that? Seeing as though so many people have troubles building mass there
@flem202 I think the reason Mr. Tran's triceps are so dominating is that he does a LOT of benching for powerlifting. Benching puts a great deal of stress on the triceps and shoulders even though it's mostly thought of as a chest exercise.
other than the ridiculous picture in the beginning, good video

JackNeet 6 months ago
@JackNeet
Some people think it is bad for longevity i.e. puts more stress on elbows and shoulders so may cause problems in the future.
If it is annoying, go as close as possible, it won't really make a difference.
PS. I don't actually know, but it may be required for it to count in powerlifting, which is what Tuan does, but don't quote me on that one.
