When I was about 4 years old my mother bought this song, Molasses, and played it for me, about 1953. This is the first time I heard it since then! Thanks for posting!
wow...i'm 15 and i'm having to do a project were we are doing a dedication thing to a singer in the 50's or 60's and i'm really thinking about doing Teresa Brewer. I'm glad i found out about her, her songs are fun :] and make me smile
I've actually never heard a recorded version of Choo'n Gum before this,my familiarity with it stems from hearing my dad sing and play it for us on guitar when I was a kid.Today I was reading an obit for Vic Mizzy(the composer of the themes for The Addams Family and Green Acres)and they mentioned he co-wrote this tune as well which jogged my memory,It's probably been 30 years since I even thought about the song. When I googled it,your vid came up so thanks for the post and RIP Vic Mizzy
I'm 25, I just stumbled across this video clip. I never heard of Teresa Brewer. I love this song, Thank goodness for the internet. I'm a music fanataic so I love discovering different artists and sounds. I've been playing this all day. I'm searching for an Mp3 of it.
Yes she is very good for fun songs, my favorite of this kind is the semihit from 1958 "pickle up a doodle", but what to say abour their romantic songs, I like their wonderful rendition of an italian song of 1957, that she sang in 1959:"heavenly lover". She was a complete artist.
Besides Heavenly Lover, in that period were "The One Rose" and "Peace Of Mind", 3 beautiful ballads from after her peak which might be overlooked. She made sure to include them on her "My Golden Favorites" hits LP, and she always tried to say that she preferred her ballads over novelties like Skinnie Minnie. These 3 ballads, along with her 3 1963 songs on Philips, are unforgettable.
Yes "the one rose" is a tender ballad as fine as "heavenly lover". "Peace of mind" its very fine too but to me its another kind of music, a little like gospel, and it probes that teresa was able to pick up any tipe of music with mastery.

We used to sing Molasses Molasses in choir as a fun warmup, and I never knew it was an actual song from this long ago! Who could have guessed? :)

Dean Martin did this one. Maria Muldaur also. My grandkids blow the doors of our minivan when we play this via mp3 through the car stereo.
