Hello, I'm going to be giving birth in October. I'm very interested in water birth. Somewhere I read that you can only get in once your water has broken in case there is merconium. Is this true? Is there a way to labor in water, and also push in water, even if your water hasn't broken?
I have experience in this area, I went from 0 to 10 in less than 2 hours. My baby was born at home before the midwife could make it. I had been in the bath tub resting, napping, and when I got out gave birth in the hall of my apt. Water + Gravity = fast birth
Excellent video! Glad I found and watched this as I am 6days away from due date and this has definetly helped me make my decision to labour in a pool! Thanks! :D
- create a syphon (or siphon) using a standard hose. Using a SimpleSiphon makes it easier.
- use a submersible water pump with a hose. Time depends on pump rating.
- buckets! This takes a while.
There are 2 things to remember:
1. Fish out any solids in the water before you pump out.
2. There will likely be blood in the water, so that needs to go into a waste drain or pipe. Emptying into a toilet our outside drain is what most people do.
im pregnant and interested in doing a home birth but im no longer with the father and don't know who would be comfortable helping me through it. i signed up to a hospital program for doctors visits and after i signed all the paperwork the lady said that i'd have to give birth at that hospital. thats crazy. im going to have the baby wherever i feel most comfortable and if that hospital wont allow me to do it on all fours then im doing a home birth.

this video was very helpful. I'll be having my 4th child, 3rd homebirth, and hopefully 1st water birth soon.

There are various options:
- create a syphon (or siphon) using a standard hose. Using a SimpleSiphon makes it easier.
- use a submersible water pump with a hose. Time depends on pump rating.
- buckets! This takes a while.

Hope that helps! Adam
