I'd agree it's best that Sutekh doesn't come back. Mostly cause I don't think he could go anywhere more as a charcter plus you just can't top his apperence in Pyramids.
To be honest I didn't think he was much better, his stories were formulaic and made use of childish horror elements (such as repeating the same thing over and over again).
I have not watched the series since he took over..I am scared to.
RTD killed Doctor Who for me, I loved it, and he took everything about it i loved and ruined it.
Its more like Harry Potter now, with magic replacing science, and camp implausible nonsense instead of thought provoking sci-fi.
@Giradius ... Or you are just too in love with the Classic Series to the point of childish obsession and hating everything that does not met like what you want.
"they curbstomped earth within minutes and very little can destroy them."
Apart from a set of controls which can destroy ALL of them at once which they keep nice and safe in the dungeon along with their creator (one of the greatest scientific minds in the universe..according to the Doctor) and their arch-enemy.
Russel T Davis is a hack, his stories rely on deus ex machina for resolving plot difficulties (nearly every story he has written has a hammy or deus ex ending) .
@Giradius After c. 1979, drwho producers wanted to make a show that appealed to the Jerry Springer audience. It went from iconoclastic, Sherlock Holems in space, kids show for bright kids - to Vicky Pollard fodder.
I think the idea was to get something "gay" on tv, and to win popularity the easy, guaranteed way, by appealling also to the lowest common denominator. Or the producers really are fans of that kind of thing. *shudder*
@Giradius couldnt agree less. although steven moffat is a WAY better producer than RTD was, mostly because he knows how to write scary stories, and the fact that he actually puts VISUAL references to the climax. Words and names arent actual referances RTD! plus steven moffat actually writes stories that confuse you, but later on make picture perfect sense. RTD didnt do that. well, they did intrigue, and some of them are alright, but they dont confuse you then get explained.
@animationdude56 Well, the Silurians weren't particularly handled well. They looked nothing like the originals. And apparently classic foes seem to be off limits. 11 has faced only Daleks and the "silurians" and that's it really.
Now its pretty much just Tardis eating living planets, Aliens who you forget when you look away and big eyeballs in metal snowflakes. There's really very little Classic elements in 11s adventures
@ReverendSyn apparently theres going to be a cyberman episode after the god complex, but 11 has faced the cybermen at least once if you count the adventure games, which I count ass cannon.
@ReverendSyn well isn't that good that there sin't many classic elements? let me put it like this : the chances of meeting a villian that he met once in the classic series are very low (yes I know thatDaleks keep turning up but thats because they are at least in almots 90% of the known universe, as with the cybermen and sontarans, and the silurians are on earth so its quite likley your gonna meet them in some cave).

@ReverendSyn ah, i think i understand you a bit more now. you meant use plot styles, not clasic series monsters. meh, i guess they should start doing longer stories rather than one or two episode stories, maybe make a 12 episode long story like "The Dalek's Master-plan", although I know that would be a terrible strain on the writer. maybe if they did do that they could let a writer write as much as they could and then send it to another writer, the next writer using writers craft techniques?
@ReverendSyn well isn't that good that there sin't many classic elements? let me put it like this : the chances of meeting a villain that he met once in the classic series are very low (yes I know that Daleks keep turning up but that's because they are at least in almost 90% of the known universe, as with the cybermen and sontarans, and the silurians are on earth so its quite likely your going to meet them in some cave).
I don't want to get into a drawn out discussion about old vs new Who, these are arguments nobody can win because they are based on personal preference.
But watch old Dalek episodes and tell me that the Daleks in the RTDs series are the same, the look very similar and have the same sounding voice, but there the similarity ends.
And as for the Master..from a suave and charming evil genius to a dancing moron, the Master was better before he regenerated, when Derek Jacobi played him.
No..they ruined the Daleks by making them crap and distinctly "un-Dalekey".
And all that cult of Skaro bollocks was laughable.
Nu-Who has ruined every classic villain (except Davros who was well played but a bit of a non entity) and all the new villains they came up with were crap!
Only decent 'modern' stories were Blink and The Family Blood. All else have been nerfed to sh*t by that crap new writer. It makes me sick tbh. Christ! the Daleks! the Cybermen! is nothing sacred?!
Pyramids and Talons..oh and the Jaggaroth one are my faves of all time. Tom Baker is awesome still (I have met him and gave him jelly babies). Check out his Autobiography, funniest book ever.
Sutekh is imba! Did u guys know that this story was filmed at Stargrove, Mick Jaggers' mansion? This is where they were busted for drugs and Mick was allegedly doing something to Marianne Faithfull with a Mars Bar :O
Sutekh IS pretty bad-ass. Scared the wee outta me back in the day. Have there been any other meanies that have been that evil while ... just ... sitting ... there? Whoo! Got the neck bristles going now!
All time classic moment in TV history - see 'the imposible planet' for reference! Pyramids of Mars was more clever a story though! I must be getting old as I'm defending storylines against kids saying 'yeah, but no but, the CGI isn't as gud!'
Of all the old Doctor Who villains that have been re-made for the modern series, I think it's about time Sutekh was given a look-in.

Couldn't agree more!
RTDs works are badly written, camp, deus ex machina, mcguffin obsessed, overly sentimental, sensationalised, crap.
In fact RTD ticks nearly EVERY box of how to write BAD sci-fi.

I reckon Stargate owes a little to Pyramids of Mars!
Sutekh even looks a bit like a Go'auld with that helmet on (like Ra from the movie).
Aliens in ancient egypt is not a new idea, but I think Dr Who did it really well.
Pyramids is one of my favourite DW stories, you wouldnt get this kind of subjective view of morality on new Who.
They shouldnt bring Sutekh back in the new series, they will ruin him like they ruined the Master, the Daleks, and nearly every classic Who villain.
