Ok Jesus Christ... Let me get this straight for you all. Tony was playing at a festival where, as you can see, a lot of old people were. Old people aren't impressed with crazy fast fills and intricate time signatures. He was entertaining the audience; that's what a real drummer does.
@DavidChoiDrumz I totally agree with you, I play drums, and I also live in a small town with alot of religious old people who also seem like tkey are taking it over, anyway they dont like to hear "my kind of music". To be a good drummer, you have to be able to entertain the people you are playig for, so I agree with you 100%
Much of this has the underpinnings of Japanese Koto drumming. I think he did this to honor the tradition of his host nation. He is a wonderfully gifted person.
well if you've ever seen the videos of when he was a kid, i dont think has any stage fright at all........... my best guess would be, is that the Japanese people asked him to start out the solo like that, just because thats how the japanese audience would prefer it :)

i think he had a bit of stage fright in the beginning but he rocked it at the end! Tony Royster > everybody

@JSW588 the intro text was in korean and the announcer spoke korean. i'm neither korean or japanese but even i can tell the difference
