i was there yesterday, i'd always been curious and was on my way back to upstate NY from philly so we decided to stop in. i guess some would say it's just boring fields now, but you (or at least I) got a very sad feeling being in a place that was once home to so many people and is now just overgrown streets and sidewalks. it's not a scary place by any means, but it is definitely a sad place. and very interesting if you're into that sort of thing like i am.
@cjk247 Plus the fire is feeding off of the coal and fumes from it. It's my understanding that fires that are fed off of fossil fuels like that aren't very easy to put out with just water.
@cjk247 You should totally do that. And take a lot of pictures. Maybe not stay for an extended period of time but it would be an interesting experience to say the least. :)
The movie is a nice little montage, I think it works. To increase the quality I'd recommend spell-checking your info thought. Would you mind listing the music you used?
Um, I hate to say this, but some of the information you have is incorrect. The fire in Centralia never reached the surface or destroyed any buildings. Those that have been destroyed were due to contractors being called in to raze these buildings after people were evacuated. There is much more history on this town on the official town website. The only indications on the surface are a large sinkhole that opened up and the of vents that can still be found all over, allowing the gases to escape.
I like the idea but some of those pictures really didn't fit. I've been to Centralia and there were no gas stations and one of the pictures from the fire shows a VERY old car pulled up in front of the burnt building.
The music was a great fit and this is a great idea, I love the pictures of what Centralia used to look like, but this needs some more polishing and some proofreading.
Good stuff-have to be honest & say IDK Silent Hill. A lot of the colleges have field trips there. I haven't been out there for years, it's a shame. I remember speaking with an old man. It was his property & he wasn't going anywhere, just sad.
@Nemesis2k14 why am i a troll??..cuzz i live in the area and i know for certain some of these pixs are not centralia ???..in fact i will be in centralia in about 1 hour from now...the pixs at 3;53 4:00 and 4:07 are not centralia ..not centralia pa anyway .i live in the area all my life and use to drive down the old rout 61 long before it was closed..sorry..some of these pixs are not centralia pa ..thats all i am saying
@SasukeSuperSayayin4 i dont live [in centralia] but the next town over ..most of what you see on the net about this is over done..and nothing there to scar you..in fact i was there last night and today
there is a centralia in florida and a centralia in pennsylvania. the centralia in florida is long gone besides a few walls. hopes this helps those who are "absitively posilutely not centralia!!!1!!1!!!!one!!"
@UnknownThomasFan30 its between brooksville and homosassa. it was a sawmill that cut amazingly huge cypress trees, and sadly the only thing left are a few foundations and a manmade waterway to float the logs to the saw.
@rottysaurus Yes, the story is true. There is the larger part of Centralia that is burnt down, there are like openings in the ground that emit fumes. The thing is, you can actually walk around the place. Then there is another part, near the cemetary, there are a few houses and clear lots. People still live there, it hasn't all been wiped out. The pavement, however is covered in grass and weeds. It's almost as if it was untouched for decades (which it was).
nope...some of these pixs are absolutely not centralia..not centralia pa anyway ..pixs at ;34, 4;00 and 4;07 are not centralia at all ..i have no idea where those pictures were taken but it is not centralia...i live in this area my whole life and i still drive threw centralia 5/6 times a week ..and hang out in a garage that is still there and some pixs shown are not centralia pa...

Nobody has replied! What is the first bit of music called? Not 'Promise (reprise)' the first bit. Its brilliant.

There should be a brainstorming conferance about how to put the fire out. It is wasting coal and poisoning the environment.
