  • THE GLUTE GUY!...good stuff

  • Isn't this the standard execution of a regular plank? From what I've learned the whole point behind the plank (and ab wheel for that matter) is not only to resist spinal extension but to keep your hips in posterial tilt under resistance.

  • @Honken

Yeah, but those 2 are the same thing.

  • @CleverDjembe

Tilting of the hip causes movement in the lumbar region of the spine yes, but for me the hardest part in the plank is preventing thoracic extension and scapular retraction; keeping a neutral lumbar is the easy part.

Then again I like to do my planks heavily weighted for short durations (10-20s), might be a different story if you're doing them for time without weight.

  • @Honken

I'm not sure I fully understand every part of your comment, but hey, whatever works for you :)

  • Great video and cues. What's RKC stand for?

  • @hkweasel

Russian Kettlebell Challenge. It's a set of ridiculously difficult strength-endurance/conditioning tests constructed by Pavel Tsatsouline to certify instructors and/or accomplish personal goals/compete.

  • @hkweasel RKC stands for Russian Kettlebell Challenge. You may encounter HKC or Hardstyle Kettlebell Challenge. i have yet to learn the difference between RKC and HKC.

  • Thanks Bret. Great tip. My guess is that if one your figure competitor friends were to demonstrate the same exercise the number of YouTube views would go through the roof.
