  • NIce tc man but i would g turbo...... I have a tc and did this mistake, bought supercharger. I had intalled for only three mouths then changed to a turbo, its way much hp gain. Turbo is turbo

  • I did a custom job on a 2003 camry, same 2AZ engine pretty reliable, but the turbo wasen't... how about the TRD charger is durable?

  • Some of the comments on here are kinda wack. The worst was from a fellow tC owner which was sad to see. The TRD S/C tC is faster than most Turbo tC's. FACT. BUT there are a select few out there with some insane upgrades that the TRD S/C can't compete with.

  • Yes and no. Its a pretty quiet ride. But when you are getting on it. Like really getting on it and the windows are down you can hear it. But the stock setting for a TRD S/C is only 6 psi. Swap that pulley and i promise you will hear it ;)

  • i thought the trd superchargers were designed with a tamper proof pulley so they could maintain the factory toyota warranty...i heard you need to get the the actual vortec supercharger ( TRD supercharger is just a rebadged vortec) to modify the pulley and boost. is there a way to modiefy the TRD?

  • The newer S/C do have a tamper proof pulley. But thats just for the warrenty. You can still swap out the pulley but toyota would know.

  • @antivirus347, unless you work at toyota. and the tech that installed your kit "forgot" to put the tamper proof cover on lol. thats what one of the techs did on a service writers tc. put down 195whp with i/h/e underdrive pulley, and trd s/c on stock 7psi. he bought a 9.5 psi pulley. it doesnt seem like much, but it made a huge difference in throttle response. he put down 210whp. toyota will never know if it blows up. cuz they can just throw the stock one on, and put the tamper proof cover on.

  • why waste your time with a gay ass comment? you obviously know nothing about tC's. your just a same old guy that thinks its a "camry engine" well its not. they share the same block and engine code, but the internals are different. the Camry motor is done in the US and the tC's in Japan. hence the Camry output of 158hp @ 5700rpms with a 9:6 compression ratio and the tC's output 161hp @ 6000rpms with a 9:8 compression ratio. you can turbo a tC and beat a Evo all for a cheaper price.

I own a tC, I'm not talking about EVERY S/C'er on every other car. I'm speaking specifically Scion tC's only. If you want to see a video of a turbo tC next to a S/C'ed tC all you have to do is check out my vids. Or I can send you a direct link. How about that, I'll just send you the link.

  • The video I showed you was a 5spd tC against me.  If it was auto, I wouldn't even need a turbo to keep up with it, just some bolt-ons.

  • he hasn't had his tC for almost 6 months now. so im sure checking his youtube videos isn't high on his list of priorities. look on scionlife, someone just recently posted a DIY in regards to putting a BOV with his s/c.

  • depends. For a cold air to have a real change in the horsepower or anything performance wise, you would need to change several things along with it. In theory it lets you suck in more air from the bottom of the car where it would be (colder), but what use is there if your exhaust system restricts airflow, or if the headers do the same? see what i am saying?

    If you plan on getting those things upgraded than I'd say yes. its worth it. Could add about 15 hp or more depending on the brand.

    - Strut Bar, Sway bar do not have affect hp/tq. (idiot);

    Look up the schematics/airflow effect of an engine.

  • ya man, its a centrifugal, i cant spell..., supercharger so its going to act just like a turbo charger. the reason why scion, or toyota, did this was because of the gas mileage of a super charger that was placed on the motor, it would just make the motor seem much bigger and more powerful then it really is, which means crappy gas mileage. so the centrifugal super charger works like a turbo it will spool up and thats when it really kicks in. so in a sense your not using a bunch of gas allthe time

  • I've got a couple of questions for you. Why did you decide to use a blow off valve as opposed to the standard bypass valve? Is there any kind of additional performance or were you just looking to get that cool BOV sound? Just curious because I'm getting ready to install a supercharger myself and would like to know what kind of BOV you used and if it gave any improvement.

  • i work for VW and that is totally true. 2 engines with 20,000km that are stuffed because of sand from castings clogged the oil filter and seized them. currently doing gearbox that has 45,000km which sounds like someone dropped metal pieces into the box.   • Usually an Eaton style roots supercharger has an integral bypass valve that releases some pressure so you're not forceing air back on the screws and causing wear and parasitic loss. But in this case its smart to use a BOV cuz you wouldnt want to burn out your bearings in the charger.
