  • Kirk hammet??? please!! ¬¬

  • magic fingers

  • The person tht brought up kirk-.- didnt get a jump start on good music

  • 演奏もツカミのネタも最高!!!

    ナイスなセンス!

  • why are people hating on kirk hammet? I know gregs amazing but somebody please explain that to me

  • @InsaneAudioX kirk is famous for playing sloppy one line solo and power chords

  • @jellytroid true but that adds feeling to his playing. Get as precise and technical as you like but you'll end up like jeff loomis. Amazing but stiff with no feeling. Like a robot. Jimi Hendrix is a prime example of feeling and amazing "sloppy" playing

  • @InsaneAudioX even though hendrix was a little sloppy he had great tone and soul. kirk's solos are pulled out the ass mostly. not thought out at all.

  • @jellytroid Quirky-Kirk is nothing without the low E string to "rifforama" on.

  • maaan who dislike thiiis!?!?!?!?! God?

  • I WANT THAT GUITAR> ITS SO BAD ASSSS

  • A lot of you are forgetting the essential part about speed: cacophony.

Who cares about technique and melody, when the most important part of course is listening to random notes being moshed together?

PS: I'm trolling... Keep up with the good job, Greg!

  • To the idiot who brought Kirk Hamlet into this thread as a comparison to Greg Howe I have this to say. Are you deaf or just ignorant ??

  • lol, somebody said kirk hammet

  • is he playing a suhr?

  • KH has made some great music over the years, as has GH. Just listen to the damn music, it's what it's there for.

  • Why would some one compare Kirk Hammett to Greg Howe? lol

Okay, you Metallica elitist. I'd like to see Hammett improvise over a

bVImaj7-VII7-IIImaj7-V7- I maj7 (Bmaj7-D7-Gmaj7-Bb7-Emaj7) Oh damn! Harmonic deviations wtf is this shit? Here this will be easier for him B5-D5-G5-Bb5-E5. ;D

Hammett is awesome, but people give him too much credit....I have the feeling some one is going to compare Hammett to Govan...god have mercy on their soul.

  • Kirk should have dried up with Exodus

  • shit hammett is where he is because of dave mustaine and james hetfield. Thats the money explanation and about skill, none for him. Right place in the right time with the right guys.

  • Bass player's lack of energy is no asset to the show.

  • Chuck Norris is better than Kirk.

  • @ibzmav

my dog's giant tumor can play better guitar than kirk hammett. kirk hammett is hands down the most overrated guitar player of all time.

  • this looks like the same bar where guthrie plays Rhode Island Shred

  • @chechoguitar112 That's because it is.

  • Si que impresiona,.. que sentimiento,.,.,.es uno de mis guitarritas favoritos,.,.,una de mis influencias,.,.,.

  • Greg's other guitarist is awesome as well. He's really holding it down.

  • KIRK HAMMET gets too much adulation from MORONS that do not know shit about guitar playing.

  • @HillaryHitler finally, people who know enough to agree with me! Hammett is so overrated, overrated is an understatement when you look at Howe, he's in a whole 'nother universe!

  • @Rockerboy3872

    Kirk sucks

  • @HillaryHitler yes he certainly does

  • @Rockerboy3872 @HillaryHitler How can you even compare the two? Sounds pretty silly to me....

  • @HillaryHitler Totally right

  • not saying i like kirks playing but im pretty sure he wasnt aiming for the virtuoso type playing so he is not as good as some of these guys. don't rip on kirk to make you feel better about your own playing. kirk is like the guitarist every one has to rip on because he make a shit load of money by playing the pentatonic scale while using a wah. If he sucks so much lets see if you can pull that off.

  • I definitely class Howe up there with Joe Satriani. I love the feeling and the amazing runs combined.

  • @kazekagereckzilla No disrespect to Satriani because I love his playing but Howe is in another league. I have to assume the people making these comparisons are not players or if they are players they are at a level of playing where they cannot understand the complexities and advanced playing abilities of people like Greg Howe.

  • @musicman102357 It's preference because in my opinion Joe Satriani is far superior to Greg Howe, but not in an insulting way, please do not take it like that. I's just to me Joe is better, but to each his own eh?

  • @kazekagereckzilla I was going to suggest that you attempt to play a Greg Howe song but after listening to you play guitar I know that would be impossible.

I am normally not a prick however you are in no position to judge who is a better player based on your level of guitar skills. You really don’t have a clue as to why Howe would be considered by most advanced players to be an overall better player. Once again I love Satriani but Howe’s music is much more difficult to play.

  • @musicman102357 Yes, rudeness is unnecessary, and as far as difficulty I was not judging difficulty levels. I was posting my opinion on musicality and listening pleasure. Greg has a more staccato style and Joe a legato, the difficulty is based primarily on playing style. So, there is no need to be rude or insulting, but in my opinion of musical skill, not shred ability or anything that involves playing, I feel Joe is better. Please try to refrain from unnecessary insults.ROCK ON. ROCK ON.

  • @kazekagereckzilla Of Course if your guitar skills and knowledge is way too low you'll find Joe Satriani better because his stuff is mostly based on the same overused guitar licks and legato runs, his melody is great but it just doesn't cut it for me, unlike Greg Howe whom guitar licks could take you WEEKS just to comprehend the techniques and scales involved and he still manages to keep it SWEET as Heck, Just listen to his albums..As you acquire more knowledge Satriani won't be such a great deal

  • @Jhey172 Trust me I more than understand it's just my preference you should calm down and "but it just doesn't cut it for me," is exactly what I'm talking about it's all preference dude I do listen to a lot of Greg Howe I have like three or four of his CD's and I understand the massive theory construct behind him and I envy him for that, but it just isn't for me I'm more about feeling when it comes o guitar not complexity; Greg Howe is amazing and I revere him as an amazing guitarist. ROCK ON.

  • @Jhey172 So, let's all just enjoy the music and agree to disagree lol. We're all going to have our own preferences and just because I don't use it doesn't mean I don't know it, it's just not what I want to do. So go kick some ass and keep being amazing. Just remember to each his own, but there are ignorant people who need to learn, I'm not one of them, but I accept your beliefs and views. Maybe Greg is better in the end it doesn't matter, I like Joe and that's just me. ROCK ON.

  • @musicman102357 Oh, and P.S. Thank you for your views on my videos. Every comment helps. ROCK ON.

  • @kazekagereckzilla they both do things with that instrument that other guitar players can't even fathom let alone surpass over which one is "better" I think neither of them surpass each other it's an apples and oranges thing, a "different strokes thing" now the Kirk Hammett dude that's a no brain Hammett sucks :P idc how cool the solo from One is Hammett is gay

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 And that is my point, no one is better everyone just has preferences. And that's too bad about Kirk he was taught by Joe, but oh well they can't all be home runs. ROCK ON.

  • Al principio, parecia una tima, pero luego se han soltado, y son buenos.

  • Since Lane is not on Earth, let's replace Lane with Kotzen?

  • @ehd1250 Instead of Kotzen,may I recommend Bumblefoot?

  • @ibanezbloke I vote Andy Timmons!

  • the best thing in this tune is rythm guitar. at 1. 22 real beaty sounds.

  • Pash Zaburuev Won Greg Howe Guitar Competition Which Called "Play For Me", With His Solo In "Jumpstart". And I Think That Greg Gifted Pash That Suhr.

I Love Amazing Howe's Guitar Work. Fusion Rules!

  • VERSION UNCUT! ORIGINAL IS THE BEST!

  • It's a Suhr...This is way before Greg started endorsing Laguna guitars...Do you homework.

  • It's a Suhr, it's pretty easy to tell by looking at the headstock.

  • muy bueno...

  • Thought that was Victor Wooten on bass for a second, haha.

  • @legendofzelda101 Ha ha I did to. I was like, "Why is Wooten doing basic shit? Wait wait wait, this isn't right at all!"

  • Blazing chops from a true master , thanx 4 postin this v cool vid.

  • i can't believe greg isn't with suhr anymore....

  • He IS using a Suhr guitar! Actually it´s Rob Marcello´s Suhr.

  • Really? I thought it was a Tom Anderson, judging from the headstock.

  • what kind of guitar is he using?? and is he using a capo for some of the tune???

  • i think he's using a suhr guitar in this clip.

  • he is using a squggie so when he taps like a mad man all the white noise that comes out from hitting open strings biaxident doesn't come out as much

  • he is using a laguna guitar is the new brand that sponsors him

  • sorry mate, but this vid is from 2006 and he hasn´t got a Laguna these days. Believe it or not, it´s Rob´s Suhr...

  • It aint no Fender. look at the headstock, not Fender shape

  • Comment removed

  • @aliveandkickino1 is right its a John Suhr Classic.

They come with H/S/S p/up config and also have a locking nut if requested.

No way thats a Fender,(Jhey172) the Fender you are talking about is nothing like this.Look closer

  • No,Suhr has many Strat and Tele style bodied guitars.and Greg owns at least 8,you can see on his site.

Suhr Pro series S/1,2,3,4, are Strat style with H/S/S config.S/5,6, Strat style with H/H/ config and floating trem.

Suhr Classic are also strat style bodies with many p/up config @ trems.

Suhr Classic T are all Tele style bodies.

Like I said Suhr makes MANY Fender style models.

  • No its not a capo, its a hairband/pice of cloth to dampen the strings to help eliminate unwanted string noise.

  • i personally like satriani better but i would say howe is better than vai. and im a steve vai fan. i jus tthink howe's music is more melodic and fun to listen to.

  • what is the timing at the start of the song i cnt get it around my head?

  • 4/4

  • I can't understand how you can compare best guitarists and argue who is better. I think Howe is a god of fusion but i like Gambale, Scofield or Henderson too.

But there's one question i agree. Kirk the Ripah SUCK as guitarist. He can't play live his own songs ;/

    Sorry for my english.

    cheers :)

  • Greg Howe & Richie Kotzen = great phrasing and endless licks

  • the best for much, unique style and tremendous skill

  • How is the only guitarist that doesn't lose melodic sense with speed. He kicks up the tempo and he gets alot funkier and fun. Greg all the way......... and FUCK KIRK HAMMETT I'M SICK OF HIS LOYALIST ON YOUTUBE...

  • I would'nt go as far as to say he's the only one, but he's one of the greats ;) Check out G. Govan, Allan Holdsworth and Scott Henderson!

  • @trimetaler yep hammet and slash the noobs favourites

  • @trimetaler agree

i think they are totally different .......... and i like greg howe more .......

  • @trimetaler Yeah, dude. Kirk Hammett isn't that great anyway. He just throws pentatonic and a few random-ass notes in to amess of power chords that end up sounding like every other Metallica track. Greg Howe rapes.

  • @trimetaler whos kirk hammet?

  • i was there man! i think nick sterling played right before him..greg howe was amazing so was the 2nd guitarist

  • best!

  • i adore this song <3

that intro is so hard :o

  • Howe is a legend... He is the most melodic shredder on the planet. Only guitarist to maintain a melodic sense under speed.

  • guthrie govan?

  • .. Steve Vai?

Listen to his full discography and tell me he isn't the most melodic shredder you've heard of. He's an amazing musician and composer.

  • yeah but he keeps repeating himself. He has created his own cliches.. He has gotten so lame and predictable. Man, what a huge fall for Vai, from passion and warfare to this.

  • Sorry but no, Steve Vai pales in comparison to many fusion guitarists. I'll go with Guthrie Govan!

  • dude. guthrie owns greg

  • They're both great....And You can learn a lot from both...So nobody is better than nobody

  • he is perhaps technically better

But Howe has much nicer feel for his guitar... he is better at composition and can create music in all styles

One of the main reasons.. Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson sought out for him

  • I'll go old-school with with Becker and Satriani.

  • howe is better.

  • Let's state an opinion as fact, as if that isn't how wars start! Capital Idea.

  • still howe is better

  • Lol....Yes He Is!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not becker

  • Nice playing... could use a better amp though.

  • I imagine it would be difficult to find a better amp than a Diezel Herbert.

  • Maybe the VH4

  • great..

  • He is awesome and one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. I took lessons from him at his house for about a year and a half in the early 90's. Glad to see he's doing so well.

  • WTF?? r u serious? o.O How was that??

  • Tell me how this guy isn't famous? Playing stuff like this, he must be trying his best not to become famous. This guy is awesome.

  • He's played on tour with a lot of famous people.

  • he was michael jacksons guitarist for a period of time

  • always great !

  • is he playing with an Iguana?

  • I think it's a surh guitar

  • haha

it's so funny at the beginning...

    love this guy so much..

  • i wish i could find tabs for this :(

  • you can, he's got all his tunes tabbed out in the "extraction" tab book :)

  • Great Phrasing

  • hw'a good. why would he need the hair band to mute the strings?

  • this song is awesome!

but i like In Step more (from the same album as Jump Start)

  • Ultimate G3: Howe, Govan, Lane

    :D

  • That´d be awesome .

Too bad that it wont be possible. Mr lane left our world too soon u_u

  • for me the ultimate G3 would be: Greg, Govan, Garsed.

  • How about: Howe, Harrison and Govan Instead?

    Nice tastes btw :)

  • That really would be the ultimate G3 lol man someone needs to alert satriani and vai lol

  • G3 right?! hahaha

  • Agreed!

  • @Vietcong101 But shawn lane is not with us anymore. RIP

  • @Vietcong101 I´d vote for Howe, Govan, Kotzen!!! It´s even the most probable jam session ever since they´re all cornford...

  • @Vietcong101 yeeeeeeeeeeeeeesss

  • @Vietcong101 if only that could be arranged would be the best show in guitars history!! i wish shawn was still alive :(

  • @Vietcong101 That would be awesome cept lane is ain't around anymore. Why not Howe, Govan and mattias eklundh instead?.

  • @Vietcong101 Brian May instead of Lane.

  • @Vietcong101

with all due respect for govan and howe, lane would still upstage them (he would upstage everybody.) i think govan, howe, and holdsworth would be a much better option.

  • good player!

  • wonderful player!

  • o my god the rhythm guitar player.... jay!

he gave me bass lessons for a couple of months. wow that's really him.

    also a crazy freaking player

  • WOW!

  • it's really a amazing guitarist!

  • the bassist almost looks like Victor Wooten

  • lol. only he is thinner.

  • My favourite song of one of my favourite guitar players.

  • His sound really reminds me of Shawn lane here and there.

  • This is brilliant Greg Howe is awesome...but his humor is geek's humorXD

  • Who gave him 4 stars?! mother fuckers!

Greg Howe got hands made of butter lawl.

  • haha he have humor at the beginning

  • isso foi de proposito????

  • you are abnormal!one of my favourite guitar player....see you in italy in october!!!!

  • Greg is awesome!!!!

  • excelent =)

    great player

  • Greg Howe is the best

  • Howe is absolutely the best not just guitarist, but best all-around musician and songwriter that I have ever heard in my life.Hell, take the two albums he did with Kotzen as an example. Now don't get me wrong, Richie is a hell of a guitar player-but every song Kotzen wrote kind of sucks, and every song Greg wrote kicks hardcore ass.He doesn't get even anywhere close to the kind of credit that he deserves for his efforts.

  • hey pongman, i see that you like Greg alot but you don't need to diss Richie. And Greg probably definitely doesn't get enough credit (and neither does Richie), but saying his songs all suck? Come on, you go write some stuff. You don't need to voice your opinion by being a bastard about it.

  • plus richie isnt doing any thing fusion or jazz for the past 3 years??

  • in fact he needs a hair band to mute his strings while tapping. if you played guitar seryously, you would probably know that such a band cannot mask a wrong fretted/articulated note

  • he plays a lot of tapping licks which are actually impossible to play cleanly without using it to mute the strings, most of the time if you'll look closely the hairband is behind the nut (not affecting anything)

  • sorry joeywrightman, if your logic was true, the piano would have never been invented, or the instrument would have been shunned by musicians universally. Why? Because every note on a piano has a mechanical string mute.

Some tapping parts, and indeed, Greg's entire

use of the technique, is hinged around being able to smoothly swap between tap and pick, the hairband simply serves a useful musical purpose for the man's immense technical grasp

    of the instrument.

  • Sloppiness?

    hahaha

    Where?

  • in my dreams G3 is Joe Satriani Greg Howe and Marty Friedman

  • no Steve Vai?

My perfect G3 setup is JS, SV and GH!

  • wat about EJ

  • meeeh... :)

  • y not have u heard MANHATTAN amazing tune

  • Whats the name of the capo he uses?

  • it's not a capo, it's simply a hair band

  • 100% sure?

  • yup. i use a similar one, works perfect

  • Thanks, I think that would be the best solutions to my problems, thanks.

  • because he,s worth it !!

  • from which album is this song? it blew me up! awesome!

  • It's from the album "Introspection"

  • Just don't fill this place with stupid comments. Accept the fact that this guy rocks!

  • reminds me of ermmm,,,,, micheal jackson maybe??

  • What's this crap about Howe not having a good enough tone???!!!! All guitar gods of the 80's and 90's still swear by his skill, tone and musicianship. Ask Satch, Vai, Timmons, Battencourt, Kotzen, Friedman and keep adding your fav players...They'll tell you.

  • oooo la wea toda seca wnnn!!!! el sonido espectacular !!!

    y tecnica tambien claro :D

saludos pa el petrucci de valdivia .i.
