I idolized Johnny Cash all of my life, he was a hero to me and always will be. It is hard to look at him in this condition, and to know that this great man who cared so much for his art, his fans, and for all people in general suffered like this. He went almost blind, lost the use of his legs and suffered horrible pain. When some people would be feeling sorry for themselves Johnny Cash was thankful, and his faith never wavered- what has happened to people like this? Love you Johnny...R.I.P!!!
@klipsferens he won't be the first. am certain hundreds of years ago, in some far away time, there was a man, probably many beyond numbers, whose generation loved and admired him as much as we admire Johnny today. if this world should still be around another hundred years or more, he too, like most everyone else will be forgotten too. doesn't mean we can't be thankful to have lived in the generation that saw his star shine.
@klipsferens im 22 now i have been a cash fan since i heard hurt back in 2003 but its the last 2 or 3 years i have become more then a fan to a insane level, and i cant imagine life without johnny cash, as long as music hangs around the man in black will be at the front of the line!
I never got to see Johnny cash in person. But his insperation has help me turn my life around.some day I will get to meet you on the other side God Bless you John
what is the song in the begining of the video? it was in "walk the line", i think! June was singing it at the awards i think! may some one please tell me?!
@XXashleyXlovesXyouX it sounds a lot like "wildwood flower" by the carter family which you can find on youtube. i have a song called "maybelle´s flower" in one of my guitar books which is titled as a homage to this track; but this "homage" sounds exactly like the track in this vid above. The Homage on the other hand is based on a saloon track called "the pale amaranthus" from the 19th century. So i think one of the three titles may satisfied you :)
May God bless you for your positive influence that has soaked into my conscience and has strengthened my bones.
I was fourteen the time I first heard "A Boy Named Sue" It was on an eight track. One day my Step-Dad popped it in the player, from that moment on, I knew you were different.

Johnny Cash stole many songs from many people. It doesn't suprise me that the Irish man came up to him. He took a great many of his later songs, from John Stewart. There was a great tension between those two.
This is a really cool song. Just about every time i see a Johnny Cash biography or clips of him on TV it reminds me of my grand parents. Not because he looks old in this clip but they use to be big fans of his music back in the 50's and 60's. They are deceased now so hearing Cash brings back memories of me being a kid and hanging out at their house in Austin,Texas back in early 90's.
It's a PBS special, part of the American Experience Series. You can find it on-line. And do find it, it's worth remembering that America has a proud history not a shamful one!!
yeah he's my favourite music artist of all time, i'm reading his auto biography cash, it's great really interesting and i feel like i'm getting to know my favourite artist as a person great man god bless him rest in peace johnny cash :)
Wow! It's amazing to me (apart from what every one else has said here)-- listen to how great he sounds in what looks like a living room or something. Most vocalists need whatever "optimal" acoustic environments, expensive microphones positioned *just so* to even sound like *themselves*. Mr. Cash could've sang somewhere in the desert and it would not have mattered.
makes me cry to see his weakness, but then there come tears of joy, because there´s some kind of freedom in his eyes when he´s singing, even when his eyes are closed.
as long as this man can still make me smile and cry, he´s not dead.
I was fortunate to work in Hendersonville, TN during Johnny and June's last few years. They came into work every week when health allowed just to talk to people. June surprised me that for a woman of 72 she had the skin of a 30 yr old. It was nice knowing you and God Speed....you may be gone but your legacy will always live on!
My mother was such a Johnny Cash fan. Shortly before her death last summer she told me he had gotten so old and ugly. Then when she passed I found myself getting into Johnny's music and when I watch this, I wish I could say to her......"I still see a beautfiul man, Mom". I miss them both.
And the name of the song played in the background at the beginning is Wildwood Flower made famous by the Carter family.
And Johnny's song 40 Shades of Green is beautiful as well.
That's beautiful. It definitely fits with the documentary it's in about mountaintop removal. Everyone should be aware of this terrible practice that coal companies are somehow still allowed to do.
i like johnny cash's newer stuff better, when got realy old his vice got better, ni his newer stuff you can hear pain in his voice, its gives feeling to the song.
