Thanks for the video. How much hard wheat do you think a family of four would require for a year? Also, do you know if what is sold at the grocery store as "popping corn" in bags is the same corn that is ground into corn meal? Thanks for the help.
Thank you so much for this information I am planning my first cannery trip next month and though I love whole wheat bread my kids not so much so I will be getting the white wheat! thank you for the tip of mixing the whole wheat with regular flour!
I have used my cannery two times, it is 100 miles from me, and we are not LDS members and the people there are awesome!! I went today, I also have a question. I bougth 100 lbs ( of both wheats), I am wondering how to make it inot breads. This video is wonderful and all the LDS members are very nice! I di dhere that , soon, this Cannery might start limiting non members, but I think the volunteer there today thought we WERE LDS, as he shared this with me!!
All very useful information. You showed chocolate. Has anyone done any studies to find out how long chocolate chips will last if put into mylar bags with O2 absorbers? Regarding long term storage of wheat kernals instead of flour, do you need a really expensive and hardy grain mill? I have a relatively cheap one that attaches to the edge of a table, but I fear that when I go to make flour using this mill that it may break or not make the flour fine enough.
@Nazgul001 Oh come on now. LIke those people running the cannery know every single person walking in the door. Our Cannery caters to a LARGE population. I just think they should practice what they preach!!!!!!
@sc00b3rt I'm not saying they do or don't....I'm just saying if you advertise "Hey I'm not a member of your church!" at the front desk, they don't know who you are. I'm sure if you got to know them, they would mind at all. If you have LDS friends (real friends mind you), I'm sure they would take any non member to the cannery.
@sc00b3rt Have you given a thought that they may be busy serviceing members? Have you even asked them if and when they would allow non-members to use their services again?
@sc00b3rt I took my SGT and a friend to the Cannery today. bought 700 pounds of long term storage each. They asked at check out what ward we where in but thats it. I told them they where my friends and they didnt mind at all. They did say however that we should call ahaed in the futur cause they get busy and sometimes cant take extra people in a given day. They also said friday is the slowest thus easiest day to get in as wards dont reserve places on fridays. What church r u from?
@sc00b3rt Is that even legal? Isnt there some famous co-op that got raided by the US government, ala waco, ruby ridge, etc for just that reason, not selling to the public.
I cant remember, been out of the US for nearly 8 years.
@sc00b3rt Ah yes, blame the Mormons. It doesnt matter that for years they have been undercutting the market prices by as much as 58% in some items and allowing anyone to purchase these. True, in some areas INDIVIDUALS are not given access to the cannery. But it is fair to say that ALL LDS canneries are still providing other organized denominations and groups with items in stock at cost and not for profit. Not "godly behavior"? For some it will never be enough.
@lanesteele240 TOTALLY! This is LAME! Thats why I watch vids on how to eat iPads, iPhones(generation 2 only...they're tasty), Kenneth Cole watches, LED Tv's, dvr's and 2010 jettas. I will be laughing at these dorks for looking so uncool while they eat their "food" while you and I will look "hot" eating cool stuff! Hi 5! TOTALLY!
i ve stopped using any spices and any kind of salts, aromas, i just ate whole foods for 7 weeks now: The result: I am able to enjoy eating potatos with nothing on it, just the potato. when i eat tomatos and selery i can taste the salt content very well... Its amazing how sensetive the taste buds become when you stop using spices, salt and aromas. salt is a drug, if u got nutritious food u dont need extra salt. Salt destroys your taste buds, so you re not able to taste your food anymore
Spices have been used in cooking since ancient times. Most of them have nutritional benefits as well. Salt is actually essential in your diet, it's just that more often people have too much rather than too little. It sounds to me like you really don't know anything about food.
@everydayfoodstorage LDS online catalog (ldscatalogcom) doesn't offer white wheat and I live to far from a canning center, any suggestions on where to get white wheat else where?
I could never figure out what the difference was, and what was the best transition, and you made this super easy and well, I've seen several of your vid's and they are all great. Keep it up!

Boo.. our LDS Cannery will no longer let non-members in. Now, that isn't very godly behavior.

@sc00b3rt It's called liability. Since no one knows them, who knows who you are letting in.
