You should never runs scripts on a page and/or enter passwords into fields through a proxy. No online purchasing or banking. You are actually LESS safe doing these things through a proxy than without one. But for regular browsing, using Tor along with Firefox/NoScript will give you anonymity.

They even tell you these things on Tor's website, but people don't read it. They just download it and think they're safe. Prime example of why you research things before jumping in with both feet.

DO NOT trust Tor. There are many proxy servers on TOR that distribute Serious Malware. Not like basic Virii, But Rootkits, VIRUT, etc. I got a VERY bad infection when trying it out.
