I can send you the vid where he said it MUST have public option. And what dose the young TURKS mean? Maybe I will open a channel called the young WHITES. Oh wait then I would be racist. Anyway get the facts straight before you go preaching to the public!!!!
Lets kill those who kill to show that killing is wrong? You can bomb a nation into pieces buy you cannot bomb a nation into peace. War tax?
Another illegal war not approved by the congress. Obama Lies. He promised no more taxes. He promised us we would stop torturing prisoners .Obama for prison!
The problem is that people believed the lie that this is even reform. This is ALL about a single payer government run healthcare system. With all the mandates on insurance companies, they will quickly begin phasing out health insurance all together. Then the President will have his mandate for the public option, the only option.
The mandate without a public option makes healthcare cost more than ever. But they're going to pass it just so they can say they passed 'something'. Theyre going to screw us all
exactly, the obama administration just begged everyone on "their side" to "just pass it" (as our Israeli Zionist bitch Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel so eloquently put it the other day)
THEY JUST WANT OBAMA TO REGAIN SUPPORT AMONG OUR COUNTRY THAT IS LOSING FAITH IN HIM...
THUS, THE DESPERATE PLEA TO OUR CONGRESS BY HIS STAFF TO "PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE JUST PASS ANYTHING PLEEEEEEEEASE"
No bill was ever turned into a law without first having some kind of compromise. People, be smart enough to know when you won. The foundation was laid so that we can go back and add the public option later. I see that. I get it. Sometimes you lose a battle to win a war and that's what we have done here.
@isaiyawhite First of all find me a bill that did not have compromises. You can't because there is no such thing. That's not how our government works and you should know that.
I would sure like to see you or anyone else do it better. You sound like a Republican anyway at with nothing the President does would make you happy.
I hope that you and those that are dear to you are well. Especially because people are dying from the lack of healthcare and political leadership to change it.
You don't understand what compromise is sir. We have compromised for far too long. The procedure alone is a compromise. When President George W. Bush (pains me to have capitilize his name and give him the honor) was acting President he steam rolled bills with only a 50% majority check the facts son!!!!!
@isaiyawhite Find one just one that was not compromised. Something added here taken out there. Find one of his bills and tell me it was just as he wanted without something being add or deleted before it passed........
Go Ahead.......... I'm waiting............ Clock is ticking.......... OWNED!
Lets talk about compromises since that seems to be an essential part of your vocaublary. There have been compromises within the bill already.
Compromises are made for the benefit of the majority. The majority wants the public option therefore there is no need to compromise on it. I want the best options available now and I wont compromise on that!
OWNED! wow you must be a fuckin 17 year old little boy with no education. Owned? WOW
When UR comparing a UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE bill (W/ HUGE PORTIONS OF IT SUCH AS REDUCED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS IMPORTED TO SAVE US ALL MONEY, OR ANTI-TRUST ENFORCEMENT OF THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY JUST TAKEN COMPLETELY OUT).... & WHETHER TO USE 500,000 TROOPS OR 100,000 TROOPS IN IRAQ, YOUR ARGUMENT FALTERS INTO OBLIVION... THAT ISNT THE SAME
I just don't get what is the big deal about the public option. If an individual does not like the Government run health insurance, don't buy it, continue with the private insurance, but everyone should be allowed to buy Government health . No one should be deprived from doing that. I thought America was about competition. If the Government stinks at its health insurance, then people will drop them like a hot potato.
Give everyone the opportunity to make a choice. Suport the public option.
This is unfair. The president explained the function that the public option is meant to serve, and said he was open to other ideas *that would achieve the same end*. This gives politicians who've backed themselves into a corner by attacking the public option a chance to offer something else constructive. They probably WON'T, but how much of that is because this sort of misrepresentation of the president's position gives them cover?
well ACTUALLY Obama said that Universal healthcare should be available to all Americans before he got elected to office, It was one of the main reasons the Progressive Democrats backed him. He has now reversed that position favoring the centralist middle of the road democrat model-suck up to the republicans while screwing over the poor and introducing little or no substantive policy to the detriment of all. The GOP are nutters without a brain and yet again the Democrats play lame duck Idiots
The public option will be just that. An OPTION. I highly doubt that people will be forced to have health insurace. You can throw me in jail or give them a fine if they don't have coverage can you? A option like that would be next to socialist and I doubt Obama will go that route. and I do believe that his stance on getiing a public option will soften the more time is wasted fighting on it.
obama is nothing but a controlled politician..he will do what the "higher ups" and right wing tell him...fuck his damn speeches ...he only gives those speeches when he catches heat from his liberal///progressive base for being a pussy to the republicans who keeps spitting in his damn face..action speaks louder than words
these damn crazy fuckin far right fringed ..birthers,deathers, racist ..i'm so fuckin sick of it ..all these fuckin lies and fearmongering and hate mongering ..somethins gotta give...when the hell is the left gonna finally take to the streets
What??? You mean Obama is not supporting a public option?? Wait, I thought he promised me change. I thought I was voting to get everything for free. I want my free healthcare. I thought I saw someone claiming he would pay their mortgage and gas costs. When does this free for all start?
obama talked for over 8 minutes in total about the public option and the role of govt....in terms of providing choice, competition, security etc....and he only gave a one line off hand reference to co-ops and other ideas....with no detail supporting or pushing for them....or explanations of how they would be equal or better than the PUBLIC OPTION....all of this in his major prime time address to the nation to push HIS OWN HEALTHCARE PLAN....and yet cenk still thinks he is going to push co-ops
cenk needs to stop lying about obama's stance and support of the public option.....obama went into great detail pushing hard for the PO....he talked about choice, competition....the role of govt....he invoked ted kennedy and talked about liberalism....and referenced the old battles of the past over social security and medicare....all of this indicates he is FIGHTING FOR THE PUBLIC OPTION.....it may benefit cenk to distort obama's words to get youtube hits....but it is wrong and shameful
i have lost a great deal of respect for cenk over this healthcare debate....he has become just as bad as a fox news host.....he has distorted obama's words....tried to find hidden meanings in his language....used the politics of guilt by association..etc....cenk has lost credibility and must regain my trust...and prove himself to be credible source of news....in the same way he claims obama must prove himself to him
cenk and other pessimistic liberals need to watch this video watch?v=4gELlNYzapo....from the speech.... it clearly shows obama is 100% behind the PUBLIC OPTION....he went into detail explaining why it was needed and what it would do....he said it was for small businesses and those without insurance....THAT'S WHAT YOU WANTED.....but people like cenk...jane hamsher...and others have done precisely what obama said...they have made this an ideological battle....and used it to get viewers / blog hits
I feel bad for all the red-faced lunatics foaming at the mouth about socialism, Kenyan citizenship, and child indoctrination, hypnotized by Glenn Beck's eyes and Limbaugh's fat ass.
Obama said he would only raise taxes on those making over $250K/year...now they said the door is open to raise taxes on the middle class....LIAR....don't ever believe a lying socialist
Obama is one big LIAR. He said he'd bring the troops home...and he escalates the war...LIAR; he said he wouldn't have any lobbyists in his regime...he has tons....LIAR....never believe a lying socialist!!!!
or are you really that FUCKN STUPID that you dont know the elite are about to kill the entire population?
its bullshit crap like this that has the american people in a daze. i hope you enjoy the time in the fema camp once you are no longer viable to the new world odor.
P. Obama is a centrist. im a socialist and a british socialist at that and Obama... he's not a left wing at all. Strange that no political party right or left can even consider the disassemblement of nhs of universal healthcare because it is so accepted as the 'right thing to do',
That is because the boundaries of thought is different. E.g. The "socialist" tag that is pasted on Obama is not the Marxism form of socialism nor the Socialism needed for fascism; it is the French system that developed in the 70s. And even that, as you may know, is not true.
Britain is Britain; America is America. We are different. E.g. The Left in Iranian politics is way more conservative than the Republicans here.
I hate these nonsense political buzzwords such as "public option"
we should adopt the japanese model of healthcare, which is infinitely cheaper and of infinitely higher quality than the "public options" presented in countries like Canada and the UK
would take to long to explain it here, but it's basically a private system with actual competition, and covered with public money.
Costs are kept down and quality is kept high, because the various insurance companies are competing with one another and individuals choose their provider, this is in contrast to the US where your employer decides your provider for you. Thus eliminating competition.
You basically ge to choose your own private plan, and then the government pays for it
The Asian models (Japan, Korea, Singapore...) are pretty good but their way is very different from ours. We would have to completely start afresh, which I think that there would be a lack of will from the Public, private companies and government.
That's not outrageously priced, that doesn't force you to take needless medications, that doesn't force you to get *treatment* for countless issues that can be solved naturally.
All I'm saying is that you have no clue how corrupt the medical industry is today. 20-30 years ago things were OK until the pharmaceutical companies got their hands in teaching doctors and pushing their products. There's no money in healthy people. Most of the "treatments" for things like cancer are complete bullshit and half the people die because of them. I don't want to have to pay for Doctors who are puppets of drug companies and get risky / purposely not useful "treatment". Sheep.
Oh, don't get me wrong, the industry is corrupt as hell. But mandatory health insurance with a Public option, would be hell of a lot better than what we have now. And way better than mandatory without the PO.
All lobbying is, is legalized corruption. Without lobbying, we'd already have a good bill passed.
Oh of course Mandatory insurance with the PO would be fine (or at least a whole lot better), but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen, which worries me a little. I love the PO and think it will work great. Sorry for the misunderstanding there for a minutes :P
Dan: LOL I doubt the insurance companies would force you to take medications or treatments. If anything, they'd probably want to just take your money and not let you do anything!
I think there should be a choice..for those of the American people with current health coverage, this would suck. it would help those without and I'm all for that, because I don't..but when you look at it, this type of thing should not be forced on us. We should have a choice. There should always be a choice.
Come on Young Turks! This time you are contributing to skepticism. President Obama Was Very Clear: "We Will Provide You With A Choice," a choice for everybody.
(continued from previous post) Without the public option being available in this way it is not truly PUBLIC and nor is it truly an OPTION. Only, if it is available for everyone, will this program engender better service in the private sector and lower premiums, because with the threat that virtually anyone can leave a health insurance behemoth, the health insurance companies will lower premiums and not treat their clients like expendable pieces of garbage.
Cenk, is correct here. A public option must be available to all the public, not merely to those who cannot afford insurance anywhere else. That means that if someone who works for a corporation, but believes that he is paying too much of his salary for insurance, or doesnt like the insurance, he can voluntarily drop that insurance and choose the public option, the same way that if someone doesn't want to pay to ship their package by FedEx/UPS, they can use the U.S. postal service (continued).
I know that Obama doesn't care about, I a middle class peon, thinks. But I wish there was some meaningful way I could tell him that if the Public Option isn't passed he is losing not just the support of myself and my partner, but the United States will be losing myself and my partner. Why should I spend the rest of my life living amongst idiot racists, in fear of getting sick, when I can emigrate somewhere else that has a strong, humane healthcare industry and open minded people?
My university makes me pay $750 per semester (that is three months and a half) for health inssurance, and when I see a doctor out of the university, I still have to pay 20% of the cost with a fucking $300 deductible, if you know what that means. I'm taking loans, but I have no idea how my mom and dad would be paying this, if the government makes it mandatory.
The thing is that if he does not make it mandatory, and lets say you get an accident (God forbid) and your parents cannot pay for the reconstruction of your skull; why must I pay when you could have paid it yourself? If you are too poor to afford health insurance, that is another story.
its really not the public option....but sign the fucking bill and its not Bi either the rep. only stood up like twice n Obama did lie too....non citzen will be able to use free medicare...this bill is going fuck up our economy so bad
This is completely out of the blue, but a compromise position that backs off a bit from requiring people to carry insurance would be to have the option to either carry insurance or provide some other "proof of financial responsibility" (as is done in TX with auto insurance) such as purchasing a surety bond or satisfying some self insurance requirement. It can be done I think without MAKING someone buy health insurance
The comparison between auto insurance and health insurance ignores the basic fact that you can choose not to have a car and being totally happy, I don't recall where the same option is available for health care. However if you make health insurance mandatory without a public option, the health insurance companies will be loving it. Obama is showing who gave his campaign a lot of money. Write him and remind who he works for. If he screws us, we'll deliver the elbow fom the sky
No. With a public option, then the deeper private insurance will be killed off and we'd be stuck with shitty public insurance that doesn't cover anything and expensive private insurance that barely covers anything.
But right now all we have is shitty private insurance that gives you no assurance that you'll actually be covered while costing much, much more than any other country's.
Making getting private insurance mandatory alone isn't going to change that. In fact they will probably use it as an excuse to jack up costs even higher, if there's no competition.
I have friends in Canada, Australia, UK, and family in Germany, all of whom have "the public option" and LOVE it -- even when they gripe about it, they would not trade it for anything we in the USA endure.
All right, even though an American born citizen, English is not my primary language, so that comment makes no sense to me.
My intent was that Obama seems to be running from a National Health Service or Plan (ooooh, horrors, Socialized Medicine!) which most civilized countries have.
And I work as a consultant for HR and Benefits, bluntly I would happily put myself out of work with a national health plan.
ok..First of all, the car insurance comparison is RIDICULOUS. The federal government does NOT require everyone to have auto insurance. It is up to the States. The states require PEOPLE WHO DRIVE to have auto insurance.
Auto insurance DOES NOT PROTECT YOU...it protects the other driver.
If the Feds force Americans to get health insurance, it will be unconstitutional. Expect Supreme Court challenges on day 1 if this bill passes.
Watch out, they will lose the House and the Senate in 2010.
The Democrats think that by appeasing Republican they will be able to save some Blue Dog Democratic Seat, what they do not count is that if they betray the Liberal but come up with a cacamenia version of public option, They will lose the Senate even in Vermont and California and Boston and Newyork.
We will not go out to vote for Democrats if they betray us this time.
im a die heart progressive liberal but forcing people to take health insurance isnt the right way to go. i dont want ANYONE telling me to take health insurance but i do take health insurance i would like to have the option of the public option.
Frankly i don't see forced insurance, on penalty of a huge fine, as a very liberal plan, or conservative for that matter. It sounds mainly like a CEO's wet dream.
We introduced mandatory private insurance here in Holland in the 90s somewhere. It's extremely toughly regulated so it's not as bad as it could be but I can tell you my insurance premiums have skyrocketed since then.
They're still not as bad as American premiums but mine is over 4x what it was under single payer and it covers less.
well to be honest, i much rather a single payer with the option to take addition private insurance if you feel like you need more coverage. so it will be a reverse of what they want to past at this moment. i don like the fact that health insurance can be turn into "car insurance"!!
Why? Because we don't have universal health care. Somebody has to go after you for their health care.
The same industry sells us both insurance policies! They have us coming and going.
What about Uninsured Motorist coverage. We wouldn't need it with universal health care.... Oh by-the-way, an insurance company sold you that coverage too!
They've dipped into our pockets three times all for the same FEAR! It's BRILLIANT!
TYT videos have now been over-run with negativity....and it's all cenk's fault.....if you even post a comment that is positive ,hopeful ....about obama's speech and the public option....you are automatically " thumbs-downed "....it's almost like a mini townhall....where people don't even want to hear what you have to say if it is positive about reform...they are totally consumed by negativity....its an absolutism....only "they" know the real truth
Not sure how that's Cenk's fault. The more popular your channel gets the more "mob mentality" sets in. It's inherent in Youtube, you get it everywhere.
it's cenk's fault because the tone is set by him....just like limbaugh or beck having a unique sense of power over their listeners....cenk is unwilling to admit he may have been wrong...or misjudged what was going on....the public option has new momentum....obama stood firm behind it and is willing to move ahead to get things done....he said the time for action is now.....and all cenk wants to do is nitpick his speech and bitch and moan.....cenk's getting annoying.....and so is this channel
Well I don't always agree with Cenk either, and I do agree with you it did seem like nit-picking somewhat and the speech definitely gave us some new hope.
But then I also agree with Cenk, I'm not gonna get all excited again just to be shot down. Let's be vigilant until it actually gets done. Being critical is good in my book.
All that said, I completely disagree that Cenk never admits to being wrong. He has done so in the past.
Oh for the record I didn't vote your comment down ;)
i agree with everything you said...but in this instance it appears that cenk is more concerned about being right...than discussing what is going on right now....obama basically bypassed the senate finance committee....they have far less influence on this bill than previously thought....and cenk won't even discuss that new fact....it now appears that there will be a public option....the bill isn't perfect....but it might be better that we thought....but cenk is still complaining about small shit
ugh! He didn't indicate he's backing away, he indicated it isn't do or die. This is what I'm talking about, Cenk only has one option about what is happening, never two. If I hear this, it can ONLY mean this and therefore Obama sucks. He's too quick to go straight to the negative.
Funny how Jenk won't call Obama a hypocrite. Obama during the campaign blasted Hillary for mandating people have insurance and now he is for it. Isn't that a HYPOCRITE? Oh that's right, Obama has been a hypocrite for his entire time as president.
We need to step up our game and get involved. For ways in which you can do that visit the comment section of my profile. For thoes of you who are still confused about health care reform may also find the information there useful as I have several resources listed including the ez to read version of the bill and much more.
republicans have no shame on this issue. they rail against government yet one of their "solutions" is to have a government mandate that forces everyone to buy private insurance.
and they will again use government to give people a tax credit or rebate which will only cover about half the costs of premiums, nevermind additional coverage...
this is what the insurance companies want...everyone to be covered under a private system...
National health spending is expected to reach $2.5 trillion in 2009, accounting for 17.6 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). By 2018, national health care expenditures are expected to reach $4.4 trillion—more than double 2007 spending. (Sitka)
The Republicans and or Obama plan, is just more of the same. Plenty of profit for the greedy pharmaceuticals and the health care companies. We should model a European Plan, is just 10% of their GDP & we'll save 1 Trillion dollars a year.
Did you guys listen to the speech at all? he covered all the bases including the fact that yes if you can afford it then you have to get it if you can not afford it one will be appointed to you ok not exactly in those words but sort of the same thing i have heard the speech several times he covered this. Cenk you have to catch your breath on this one I think Obama Who watched his mother die fighting insurance companies is on our side on this one he is just not a brute force guy he is a tactician
I thought the president was at his best last night. He offered faint support for the public option, again...lol. He made me uncomfortable when he talked about mandates, without public option, how can he mandate people to buy HC insurance?
I thought obama killed it last nite.Basically I have felt as tho after the election the dems tried to say ok now we have to govern and the republicans went right on campaigning not only that but went on as tho they hadnt lost and the last 8 yeaqrs didnt exist. What I got out of last nite was a restart of the democratic campaign machine. Its sad but in todays world every peice of legislation has to be campaigned 4.Last nite health care reform won a primary
The Public option will be funded just like any other insurance company - people paying premiums. It's just that the profit motive will not be there, and neither will administrative and advertising costs that go with it.
The British system takes better care of its citizens than the American system, check out the World Health statistics. Your insurance companies ration Healthcare to a far greater degree than any of the government run programs.
Yes, the NHS takes 9% of wages with an annual maximum, far less than the premiums paid by Americans, but coverage lasts a lifetime, after you've stopped working. And it covers every citizen!
The President clearly said that the public option will be funded by premiums that we pay into the system .He clearly said that not one federal dollar would fund it now or in the future. did you not hear the speech? maybe you should stop sitting on your ears
I'm glad I didn't have any expectations anymore - "Let me be clear: It wouild only be an option for those who don't have insurance." This is NOT a public OPTION!
So I hope he is NOT the last one to address the issue.
lmcdowall ....thank you...finally someone besides me is pointing that out....cenk is trying to save face by refusing to acknowledge any new positive information....it's really annoying....it's not being a realist....it's being pessimistic cynic.....who is only interested in their own self image....and sticking by his predictions....even if they are wrong....he said obama would "abandon" the public option in his speech.....and he did the exact opposite....and cenk is making himself look foolish
Ana just made a very valid point that has been on my mind for the last few months. Personally I don't support any bill that forces Americans to purchase insurance unless it also provides a robust public option that anyone can buy into AND opening competition up across state lines. My views on this are based on the fact that insurance companies have shown little efficacy themselves in the last few decades, why should they be rewarded now?
Public option is NOT the only way to control cost .He offered a co-op also which can be very effective at cost control and Obama said plain as day the bill will have a public option or a co-op or a trigger .Obama is not about to force you to pay 30% of your income on insurence .
I think he might be all too willing to force you to pay the 30% of your check. You say public option OR co-op OR trigger. A trigger will be useless for the next 4 or 5 years while health companies drive up the costs. And in those 5 years they can always do follow-up legislature to remove the trigger. A co-op will not be enough to drive down the costs and, likely, not available UCA-wide. The only way to go is public option.
You are jumping to conclusions .You think Obama's plan is to break the American private citizen in order to line the pockets of the healthcare companys ? The co-op is a good idea and can be just as effective as a public option .This reform will not be in effect for 4 years anyways. This will be good reform and things will be alot better then they are now .
I read the speech, and I paid attention. It's also obvious from my post that I don't believe a public option is the only way to control costs, but I do think it is one of the best ways to give people more options AND lower costs simultaneously. If a co-op comes of all this in addition, I wouldn't be opposed. I don't think there's anything wrong with asking individuals to be responsible, but those at the top need to act accordingly as well, and they haven't. So i'm not giving them a cookie.
I know, and I choose to "vote" against that sort of oligarchal behavior with my dollar, my vioce, and my actual vote whenever possible. To me, that sort of corruption is the absolute enemy of democracy.
obama last night did not just whisper sweet little nothings into our ear. He said some loud shit last night and it was real. also could u believe eric cantor was texting!?
a lot of countries in Europe and places like Japan the government actually takes care of ALL their people, it's amazing Americans are being so stupid about getting with the program here. People are selfish and don't care for one another, if you already have insurance then fuck everyone else who needs it right?Who caes if premiums keep going up and people keep losing insurance? Status quo!
I feel bad for me too ;p. I used to feel bad for all the brainwashed people but they're actually not that stupid, they really just don't care about anyone else. Those christian values sure do show themselves.

No bill was ever turned into a law without first having some kind of compromise. People, be smart enough to know when you won. The foundation was laid so that we can go back and add the public option later. I see that. I get it. Sometimes you lose a battle to win a war and that's what we have done here.
Dare to think deeper.

If you are going to do something, do it right the 1st time!!!!
You stated that we can go back an add the public option later. Why LATER and not NOW???
The "foundation" that you speak of is built on sand.
Also the politicians should do their job correctly and fight for their constituents.
A MAJORITY of AMERICANS want the public option, therfore the politician should fight for it.
I rather have things stay the way they are than concede to a mandate with a foundation built on sand.

This is unfair. The president explained the function that the public option is meant to serve, and said he was open to other ideas *that would achieve the same end*. This gives politicians who've backed themselves into a corner by attacking the public option a chance to offer something else constructive. They probably WON'T, but how much of that is because this sort of misrepresentation of the president's position gives them cover?
jeffdee 2 years ago
well ACTUALLY Obama said that Universal healthcare should be available to all Americans before he got elected to office, It was one of the main reasons the Progressive Democrats backed him.

P. Obama is a centrist. im a socialist and a british socialist at that and Obama... he's not a left wing at all. Strange that no political party right or left can even consider the disassemblement of nhs of universal healthcare because it is so accepted as the 'right thing to do',
lapse19 2 years ago

Ironzealot7531 2 years ago
what is the Japanese model?
Exuat 2 years ago
would take to long to explain it here, but it's basically a private system with actual competition, and covered with public money.
Costs are kept down and quality is kept high, because the various insurance companies are competing with one another and individuals choose their provider, this is in contrast to the US where your employer decides your provider for you. Thus eliminating competition.
You basically ge to choose your own private plan, and then the government pays for it
Ironzealot7531 2 years ago
The Asian models (Japan, Korea, Singapore...) are pretty good but their way is very different from ours. We would have to completely start afresh, which I think that there would be a lack of will from the Public, private companies and government.
But your point is great and fresh.

The idea of mandatory health care scares me shitless.
Dan4157 2 years ago
Does mandatory auto insurance scare you shitless too?
TheGermanator123 2 years ago
That's not outrageously priced, that doesn't force you to take needless medications, that doesn't force you to get *treatment* for countless issues that can be solved naturally.
Dan4157 2 years ago
Now are you saying it's scary with or without the PO?
Or it's scary regardless?
TheGermanator123 2 years ago
All I'm saying is that you have no clue how corrupt the medical industry is today. 20-30 years ago things were OK until the pharmaceutical companies got their hands in teaching doctors and pushing their products. There's no money in healthy people. Most of the "treatments" for things like cancer are complete bullshit and half the people die because of them. I don't want to have to pay for Doctors who are puppets of drug companies and get risky / purposely not useful "treatment". Sheep.
Dan4157 2 years ago
Oh, don't get me wrong, the industry is corrupt as hell. But mandatory health insurance with a Public option, would be hell of a lot better than what we have now. And way better than mandatory without the PO.
All lobbying is, is legalized corruption. Without lobbying, we'd already have a good bill passed.
TheGermanator123 2 years ago 2
Oh of course Mandatory insurance with the PO would be fine (or at least a whole lot better), but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen, which worries me a little. I love the PO and think it will work great. Sorry for the misunderstanding there for a minutes :P

Panchoroy 2 years ago
(continued from previous post) Without the public option being available in this way it is not truly PUBLIC and nor is it truly an OPTION. Only, if it is available for everyone, will this program engender better service in the private sector and lower premiums, because with the threat that virtually anyone can leave a health insurance behemoth, the health insurance companies will lower premiums and not treat their clients like expendable pieces of garbage.
alphacause 2 years ago
Cenk, is correct here. A public option must be available to all the public, not merely to those who cannot afford insurance anywhere else. That means that if someone who works for a corporation, but believes that he is paying too much of his salary for insurance, or doesnt like the insurance, he can voluntarily drop that insurance and choose the public option, the same way that if someone doesn't want to pay to ship their package by FedEx/UPS, they can use the U.S. postal service (continued).
alphacause 2 years ago

I'm taking loans, but I have no idea how my mom and dad would be paying this, if the government makes it mandatory.
livingeasi 2 years ago
The thing is that if he does not make it mandatory, and lets say you get an accident (God forbid) and your parents cannot pay for the reconstruction of your skull; why must I pay when you could have paid it yourself? If you are too poor to afford health insurance, that is another story.

MissNophi2U 2 years ago
No. With a public option, then the deeper private insurance will be killed off and we'd be stuck with shitty public insurance that doesn't cover anything and expensive private insurance that barely covers anything.
vishaltotheg 2 years ago
But right now all we have is shitty private insurance that gives you no assurance that you'll actually be covered while costing much, much more than any other country's.
Making getting private insurance mandatory alone isn't going to change that. In fact they will probably use it as an excuse to jack up costs even higher, if there's no competition.

Not sure how that's Cenk's fault. The more popular your channel gets the more "mob mentality" sets in. It's inherent in Youtube, you get it everywhere.
megamarsvin 2 years ago
it's cenk's fault because the tone is set by him....just like limbaugh or beck having a unique sense of power over their listeners....cenk is unwilling to admit he may have been wrong...or misjudged what was going on....the public option has new momentum....obama stood firm behind it and is willing to move ahead to get things done....he said the time for action is now.....and all cenk wants to do is nitpick his speech and bitch and moan.....cenk's getting annoying.....and so is this channel
jshooper 2 years ago

republicans have no shame on this issue. they rail against government yet one of their "solutions" is to have a government mandate that forces everyone to buy private insurance.
and they will again use government to give people a tax credit or rebate which will only cover about half the costs of premiums, nevermind additional coverage...
this is what the insurance companies want...everyone to be covered under a private system...
we cant let it happen....

And it covers every citizen!

jshooper 2 years ago
Ana just made a very valid point that has been on my mind for the last few months. Personally I don't support any bill that forces Americans to purchase insurance unless it also provides a robust public option that anyone can buy into AND opening competition up across state lines. My views on this are based on the fact that insurance companies have shown little efficacy themselves in the last few decades, why should they be rewarded now?
Thynbelle 2 years ago
Public option is NOT the only way to control cost .He offered a co-op also which can be very effective at cost control and Obama said plain as day the bill will have a public option or a co-op or a trigger .Obama is not about to force you to pay 30% of your income on insurence .
lmcdowall 2 years ago

They shouldn't. But they're paying for it, so they'll probably get their way. It's the sad truth of the American political system.

a lot of countries in Europe and places like Japan the government actually takes care of ALL their people, it's amazing Americans are being so stupid about getting with the program here. People are selfish and don't care for one another, if you already have insurance then fuck everyone else who needs it right?Who caes if premiums keep going up and people keep losing insurance? Status quo!

Hear hear. I feel sorry for humane progessives in the US who have to live side by side with self absorbed brainwashed people.

I feel bad for me too ;p. I used to feel bad for all the brainwashed people but they're actually not that stupid, they really just don't care about anyone else. Those christian values sure do show themselves.
