oh my gosh. im trying to learn this right now and its HARD! how long did it take you to be able to play it this well. right now im at the part where the eigths and triplets go together, and it seems impossible! you are amazing!
@777dnangel Haha, it's not too late, yet. But if you want to learn this piece, you probably should have practice on a regular basis for five years at least :)
@777dnangel Haha, it's not too late, yet. But if you want to learn this piece, you probably should have practice on a regular basis for five years at least :)
Great interpretation :) and is it just me or did you play a wrong note in the right hand in like the third to last bar? It might just be me being weird though, lol.
I love this. I can play this piece, by heart even, but it could never compare to the way you played this. I admire you, how long have you been playing?
question: is this the right speed? my tutor is on vacation her advise was to check youtube lol. i have a NYSSMA solo coming up i need the right speed.
@hotstuffwatcher Bro, its all about your interpretation of the song and judgement, one person may play the song really fast and another person may play the song really slow and expressive, neither are wrong....thats the beautiful thing about music is you can express yourself in anyway you want
@hotstuffwatcher to be honest it actually seems a little slow, but music isn't supposed to be mathematically timed down to the nearest millisecond, its supposed to be felt, which personally i find a lot easier too :)
thanks for the upload, is this you playing? it sounds really good(: i'm thinking of maybe possibly playing this for the region music competition next year... (:
@lucretia16 the question you posed earlier cannot have possibly been a rhetorical question as i (as you can plainly see) answered it. therefore it can be assumed that in answering the question it is no longer a rhetorical question
Yeah, I'm currently teaching this piece (and learning it myself at the same time) and it is something you have to take your time with. The triplets over 1/8 notes are hard to get used to if you haven't done it before, but it is worth learning since that kind of polyrhythm is in a lot of other works (Brahms Rhapsody #2 in G minor is where I first had to learn to do that). Thanks to the pianist for playing this piece without getting frantic or too showy. Very nice performance.
@Liine5250 If its "classical" then usually by sheets first. Then, when I have learned the notes I start practicing without them and do that as long as I'm satisfied with the result. I think you can't get very far if you play with notes the whole time. It's like they will limit your music.
@Narriz Very true in deed. I play modern rythmical music, and i tend to just listen, interpret and peform it my way after that. I certainly dont mind if people take music, and makes it their own. If you put your OWN emotions into the piece you are playing, it will always be good. Provided you have some technique, and something you want to SAY with the music. Emotions are the key to music. Not note-sheets
@shanavalli - Yes, you're right, this is the first arabesque which was given the tempo marking "Andantino con moto" (swift and moving.) Paired with its sister, "Allegretto scherzando" (lively dance) there are then "Two (~Deux) Arabesques." The creator of the video made a small typo by leaving off the final 's', and in doing so nixed the plural.
To say "the second arabesque" in French, one would say "la deuxieme arabesque," not "la deux arabesque." Hope this helps a bit :)
Here's the deal: i just heard this about an hr ago at an airport, like "how nice does this sound?" And i'm not even that knowledgeable of classical music. i was like "i bet this is Debussy".
Why?
Because the first classical song i ever fell in love with was "Claire De Lune", some time later then i came across a song called "Romance", which was also beautiful. After hearing just TWO songs, i felt like i knew his style. Sure enough, i search, and bam, i find I'M RIGHT. :)
If im right,, Alicia Keys took the first little part of this piece and used it in her single 'Love is like the sea'... Both brilliant pieces of music :).
Thankyou, "Narrlz"... Truly lovely treatment of this, one of my very own special delights by my FAV French Romantic, Mssr. Debussy. - You are a masterful talent, N. Thankyou again and again. =jonycuddlesgert .
You play very well! How long did it take you before you were able to play this? I would love to learn to paly. I think, to play this song would be the high point of my learning :D Btw... does narriz mean nose? Lol
@TomClarkFilms no it doesnt mean nose :d. It took many years before I was able to play this lol :D. Learning the piece took like 3 months or so. Wouldnt take that long if I did it now but that time I wasnt yet practicing properly..

@S8rChik13 I agree with Narriz. I've been playing for 12 years, I've had this piece for about a week, and I've just got the first 3 lines down. Just take your time.
@AirsoftLife I mean thats still pretty good to have tht much down it a week this is definitely a piece you have to take your time and be satisfied with the hact tht you wont have perfect really fast, and it takes a while and you'll probably be playing it slow for a while but once you learn it, is beautiful

Claude Debussy's compositions shouldn't be called Impressionistic. They are, well unique, and are a one-of-a-kind type.
Starbirdy9999 2 years ago
Yeah. As I recall, Debussy hated the term "impressionist". He preferred the name "late-romantic" to his works.
However, I'll always consider him an impressionist.
