That's because Americans like to make the unfair comparison by using their large size. 310 million is almost 4 times bigger than the largest country in Europe. A fair comparison should be done per capita. In that context countries like Switzerland had more than twice as many Nobel prizes per 1 million people than the USA.

That's because Americans like to make the unfair comparison by using their large size. 310 million is almost 4 times bigger than the largest country in Europe. A fair comparison should be done per capita. In that context countries like Switzerland had more than twice as many Nobel prizes per 1 million people than the USA.
