  • Time has told, and VB is more popular now than in the 60's

  • She looks like she doesn't want to be there...therefore I don't want to listen!!

  • She looks like she doesn't want to be there

  • I like the quality of her voice. I'm afraid she would never make it if she was starting out today. She never opens her mouth when she sings!

  • @torresongs2

It's call lip synching. Most of the shows were done that way in the 60s, unfortunately.

  • she looks off her tits

  • Lush id like to walk around in your mind

  • She is better than Marianne Faithfull!

  • I wish I could meet this girl.

  • I wish i had a bunnion that looked like this.

  • lmao

  • wow fantastic

  • lovely voice !

  • Lovely voice, but what was she on - she sings like a rag doll.

  • @AlanSturgess Maybe she is nervous... she certainly doesn't seem to be, um, enjoying herself.

  • @timjmoran Maybe she is having fun but has troubles expressing herself.

  • @timjmoran i would see that its all intentional, or that it doesn't matter, because its what she's singing? eh?

  • @ack303 perhaps so.. the thing about video, and YouTube in partic, is that one not only responds

to the audio( which on its own, heard withOUT the vid., would probably be perfectly OK) but the

Visual aspect as well- and it's hard not to notice her deportment on Stage- which to me, just appears

( as I said) a little uneasy. But,you are right... ultimately it might not matter that much- she is obviously

    very talented.

  • està màs dura, que d10s en navidad

  • freak folk

  • I wish I could meet a girl who drops it low like this.

  • Just one of the best songs ever written.

  • I wish I could meet a girl that looked and sung like this.

  • When did Ozzy cover this?

  • @Hyenashowl

    Ozzie never covered this

  • Comment removed

  • @Hyenashowl

Ozzy never recorded this song. It was written by the Rolling Stones and was a cast off that they gave to Vashti, and when it became a hit then they recorded it. Just like they wrote As Tears Go By, another cast off song they gave to Marianne Faithfull, and when it became a hit, the Stones recorded it also. The Rolling Stones manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, discovered and managed Marianne Faithfull and Vashti, briefly.

  • @Hyenashowl at least you're being polite about it :D

  • I didn't post that, my brother did while using my profile.

  • i love ittttttttt

  • wow she's beautiful ! just found her out and she sounds (and looks) great to me

  • wow never seen this before , great song

  • This is when some producer tried to turn her as a "POP music thing" (I am being polite here)... this doesn't give her justice in my opinion

  • [Ghost Dad] what an awkward vid

    [Ghost Dad] love it

  • lovely song but she has a slighty vacant maybe autistic style of performing

  • @Jehudson57 it's the lithium!

  • yeah, she's def down with ausperger's

  • Emo tional!

  • I love that she's bobbing her head like a sleep walker.

  • Found out about this woman through Robert Kirby who did the string arrangements for Nick Drake's records.

  • Nice distinctive voice. Very calm and suttle but clear too.

    Cool stuff, dude.

  • Wow! Today's my first exposure to this artist. Great vocals Vashti Bunyan; but I believe she sings her own lyrics best. Perhaps she was spared 1970's stardom for a reason. The 70s was particularly brutal on musicians. Then as now however, Ms. Bunyan imparts lovely tonal qualities, not heard elsewhere. Diamond Day, and I Don't Know What Love Is, in my opinion, better represent her considerable talent. I could go on but what a rare find! Thumbs up for Vashti.

  • Oh, but the critics WERE hard on her in the 70s. When she released her debut, they panned it. That's why she vanished for about 30 years.

  • which is whack..that album she released was damn dope.

  • vashti's a dream,

    a very dreamy dream

  • woooah , is this from the 70s?!

  • obviously the 60s yo

  • I first heard her through Animal Collective's album, Prospect Hummer. I've loved her ever since.

  • same here!

  • I have yet to hear that. Any clue where I can?

  • nice stuff...she is wonderful

  • I think she was just shy, and detached, not by drugs, but who can say? It appears from what I've read, many Brits of that era were quite staid in their morality and rather reserved in any drug usage, but she was discovered by the Stones, so

    the heuristic, guilt by association?

  • She also did a couple songs with Animal Collective.

  • This song was writen by Jagger , Richards

  • shes probably tripping balls

  • She looks nervous.

  • the best female singer for me

  • Wow, she REALLY doesn't look into this at all.

  • I wish I could meet a girl that looked like this.

  • i wish i could meet a girl that sung like this

  • Shara Warden (Sp?) from My Brightest Diamond hands down is an amazing singer and will NOT fail to please or tickle your ear fancy! --Matt--

  • hyper cool!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful!

  • it's a really dark song. the last couple of lines seem to suggest something very grim indeed, not really a pop song at all really.

  • love this song so much 60's should have defo been good (:

  • give me lyrics, please

  • Why does the sky turn grey every night Sun rise again in time Why do you think of the first love you had Somethings just stick in your mind Why does the rain fall down on the earth Why do the clouds keep crying Why do you sleep curled up like a child Some things just stick in your mind Why when the children grow up and leave Still remember their nursery rhymes Why must there be so much hate in their lives Some things just stick in their minds
  • this is "blowin' in the wind." the chord progression is the same, except for 1 difference.

  • People comment that she could be "in the spirit world" here. To me, she just looks somewhat dissastisfied by singing to pop arrangements while capitivating all of us. Doesn't really matter whether she was "stuck to the cookie sheet", or whether she became a horse and carriage rustic hippie after she prodded her debut album into release, we still have this song and all of her others. She is truly remarkable. And she did whatever SHE wanted to do. She is true freedom and that scares some.

  • I have to agree with your general attitude. She looks like someone blackmailed into a karaoke spot :-)

  • does anyone else have a feeling she might be verrrry high in this vid?

    vashti4lyfe

  • that's the first thing came in my mind when I opened this video

  • Dude, she is FUCKING BAKED.

  • Yeah...she looks quite high but I love her music

  • Whell....I take back my words,I was too fast

with my judgement, maybe because of the

    Stones,Andrew Oldham,Immediate connection.

  • Thank you :)

    xx

  • shes wonderfulll with a wonderfulll voice :D

  • This is a great Jagger & Richards tune, also recorded by Dick & DeeDee. The Stones' version is on the "Metamorphosis" CD.

  • Was edited as a single in 1965, I think

  • This tunes bears a strong resemblance to Bill Monroe's - "You'll Find Her Name Written There".

  • she's such an amazing singer omg i love u vashti bunyan

  • serge gainsbourgh shagged 'er.

  • She released a new album last year and toured the U.S. and Canada. One of her dates was the Echo in Los Angeles and that's where I saw her. (and wha's up with the language?)

  • oh man, when was she at the echo?

  • It was September of 2006. Shortly after her new album came out.

  • I saw her play live in L.A. last year, She did a great show.

  • She also came to Japan to sing.

  • This was from when Andrew Loog Oldham was trying to turn her into another Marianne Faithfull

  • Yes, she comes across as a brunette version of Marianne Faithfull.

  • of françoise hardy.

  • The music is not suited to her at all - she doesn't even seem pleased to be there! I'm glad she broke away from commercial pop like this.

The video is still fascinating all the same.

  • that's why she got in a caravan and fucked off to the outer Hebrides for 30 years...

  • She's Amazing, eh?

I'm soooo annoyed I missed her gigs last year, only found out about her music recently :(
