  • I never had this album but I about wore out 2, 3, and 4, along with the first 3 Chicago albums. Now I can catch up on this one after 40+ years.

  • flashback city, lost my virginity to a beautiful girl from Ohio in key west while this album was playing. sweet sweet memories.

  • I'm going to buy this album right now.

  • Yes, Randy Newman has written nice love songs, too.

My favorite part is the closing horn chorus - Fluglehorn by Randy Brecker

  • @radiopete gene pitney did this song must have been before bs&t

  • sweet sweeet bitterness, its so much feeeling in this bst classic!

  • love the sound of Al's upright.

  • I still have this album, no scratches virgin...AWESOME

  • @astronorm111 I still have this album and the beginning of this track

is still scratched cos I played it over n over :)

  • I purchased this album in 1969 (yes, the album), and foundmyself purchasing it on CD about 10years ago, never hesitated to pay the dough. Remains a total classic from the first note to the last. Thank you for posting.

  • thanks Gaz...for the share :)))

  • Very Lovely & Heartfelt Share & Post!!!...5*s Thankyou Gaz...Anita..

  • Great B3 sound

  • "Child is Father..." is an album that gets better and better over time - pushing 45 years.

  • I've never found Al Kooper to be a strong singer but, for me, I'll take his rather weak vocals over David Clayton-Thomas' over-the-top Vegas show tune vocals! D.C.T. has his own type of "soulful" singing but to me, it comes off like fake soul. Anyways I just bought this CD and this is one of my favorites on the album. Love the crazy "House In The Country" too.

  • Wow. This has BS&T written all over it! They took Randy's song and made it theirs, for sure! Right down to the trombone stuff near the end. I half way expect them to say 'Uh.. that wasn't so good, was it?' in the fade out!

    But it was good.

Not at all like the Gene Pitney version I've known for 40+ years. No strong vocal here, no violins, no passion, but still a great BS&T song in their style!

    Glad I heard it.

Lemme think.. hmmm... OK.. I STILL think Gene Pitney's version wins the prize!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Album is a Masterpiece.

  • This is the absolute greatest album EVER

  • This is a great album that has stood the test of time (41 years).

  • Very cool to see the original un-doctored original BS&T album cover.

Very un-cool to see the David Clayton Thomas later BS&T picture.

  • Great song! Thanks!

  • rare when Every song on an album is This Good...

  • a great interpretation of a great song written by an original and great American composer, Randy Newman -

  • Hard to listen to this great album without thinking of a good high school friend, Jerry Weiss - part of the original group (Child is Father to the Man album). Jerry, hope to see you at the reunion this summer.

  • Whoa! You were friends with Jerry Weiss!

  • always loved this album

  • Certainly a true "diamond in the rough"! Even songs like that are hard to find these days! Especially a song like this one!
