I purchased this album in 1969 (yes, the album), and foundmyself purchasing it on CD about 10years ago, never hesitated to pay the dough. Remains a total classic from the first note to the last. Thank you for posting.
I've never found Al Kooper to be a strong singer but, for me, I'll take his rather weak vocals over David Clayton-Thomas' over-the-top Vegas show tune vocals! D.C.T. has his own type of "soulful" singing but to me, it comes off like fake soul. Anyways I just bought this CD and this is one of my favorites on the album. Love the crazy "House In The Country" too.
Wow. This has BS&T written all over it! They took Randy's song and made it theirs, for sure! Right down to the trombone stuff near the end. I half way expect them to say 'Uh.. that wasn't so good, was it?' in the fade out!
But it was good.
Not at all like the Gene Pitney version I've known for 40+ years. No strong vocal here, no violins, no passion, but still a great BS&T song in their style!
Glad I heard it.
Lemme think.. hmmm... OK.. I STILL think Gene Pitney's version wins the prize!
Hard to listen to this great album without thinking of a good high school friend, Jerry Weiss - part of the original group (Child is Father to the Man album). Jerry, hope to see you at the reunion this summer.
I never had this album but I about wore out 2, 3, and 4, along with the first 3 Chicago albums. Now I can catch up on this one after 40+ years.

Yes, Randy Newman has written nice love songs, too.
My favorite part is the closing horn chorus - Fluglehorn by Randy Brecker

Very cool to see the original un-doctored original BS&T album cover.
Very un-cool to see the David Clayton Thomas later BS&T picture.

Certainly a true "diamond in the rough"! Even songs like that are hard to find these days! Especially a song like this one!
