Ruth Welting was extraordinary. Saw her in Lucia and from that point on there was no other coloratura in the world that could touch her technical and dramatic gifts. This woman could sing with the best of the best! What a great talent and what a great loss. would have loved to see her develop and mature as an artist. What a blessing to have these post.

Love the Fille.. I understand where Ciofi got the inspiration although the acuti are way easier with Welting.

I saw her in Guilio Cesare in the early 1980s with NYCO (actually, I was a super). She inherited some of the Sills roles when Sills retired. She was outstanding in the Handel with amazing coloratura.
