I work at a coal fire power plant and we have spent so much money on scrubbers and other ways to eliminate CO2. But we all know that Co2 is not harmful and global warming is nothing but a money making scheme and these assholes are just trying to scare the public. My plant generates 1800 Megawatts an hour, that would take at least 900 large windmills working at full speed to replace our production. Each windmill takes approx. 5 acres of land. There are consequences for any form power production

Easy way to shut the damn tree huggers up is to simply shut down every single coal fired plant for two months. The look on their faces would be priceless when the light switch fails to turn on the lights. Are when the cell towers quit transmitting signals.

I love people who bitch about coal and are hooked into the grid. There's a reason it provides 50% of our energy - it's cheap. People in Illinois complain about 12 cent per kWh. Without coal, that'd probably be double or triple that easily. Renewables must increase but they can not supply all our power. And people won't build nuclear - the only other reliable source of large power. Plus we can't stop "global warming" when China and India are building more and more coal plants.

How are you going to maintain load when the sun doesn't shine and the wind is not blowing? For every wind/solar farm you need an on demand power plant. That is nuclear, coal fire plant or hydro plant.

Geothermal and solar thermal run 24/7. These days on-demand power plant usually means nat. gas. You can't cycle coal on and off.

Geothermal is site specific and Solar thermal is also site specific with northern latitudes not being very efferent. Coal plants run multi-furances so you scale back. The only on/of power plants are solar/wind. Ocean current and tidal shows promise however.

Coal with carbon capture is site specific and unproven. Existing coal doesn't have much spare capacity and new coal is expensive (capital + carbon and increasing worldwide fuel demand).

Ocean current and tidal are site specific. Biomass is less intermittent and less site constrained. Hydro is site specific and only old dammed varieties are "on demand." Good luck building major new dams in the US. Nuclear is not easily scaled up and down to meet demand.

in West Virginia the minimum wage is the same as the federal minimum wage (A majority of states have legislation which adds on to the federally mandated wage considerabally, in Washington and California state, some of the highest, it is around $9/hr before taxes) , i think thats about $5/hr these days.(there was just recently a 40c/hr federal increase) Thats what it starts out as, generally very bad wages.

I partially agree with you that CO2 is likely not responsible for temperature change alone, and in fact human CO2 output is responsible for 3-6% of total CO2 output worldwide.

But that doesn't mean that blowing off mountain tops is a good idea, or that we should continue our detrimental processes.

Every other planet? I've only heard that to be the case on Mars, and its climate change is driven by mechanisms unlike that on Earth. It's odd how solar radiation output hasn't increased much at all since the 1980's, while temperatures continue to increase.

Although I agree that the science is muddy at best, CO2-generated global warming is not a "hoax." It may be a mistake, and in Al Gore's case, a propaganda race, but not a "hoax."

CO2-generated global warming IS indeed a hoax. CO2 accounts for less than 0.23 percent of the gasses in our atmosphere, the only reason we link this to the hole in the ozone layer is it seems common sense to do so.

The point of how much is irrelevant. That much of some gases could kill you. In any case, are you sure you have EVER studied the topic? No one is saying global warming is relevant to the Ozone. Ozone is supposedly being depleted by CFC's, and its danger is increased UV radiation. It has nothing to do with increased global temperatures or CO2.

the only reason the amount of co2 hasn' had the effects is that the particulate matter blocking sunlight in the atmosphere is reflecting radiant heat. take that away with cleaner air in the future, then you will see a rise of 3-4 degrees.
