...being tested, then the excitment piques again and again the creators will say, in another twenty years...one example is the darpa unmanned vehicle challenge, the vehicle that one started as a cargo van in the late 80's, twenty years later it's merit is tested (emphasis on tested) by running it in a contest, but there has yet been an unman self driven (non remote controlled) vehicle as the creator predicted in the late 80's...that is one example...what happened to cog at this present time?
all robots have an excited recursive twenty year problem built into them which, ironically, the creators of these robots aren't aware of (or don't want to be aware of). When they create a robot, and have it up and running and see their creation functioning they become so excited they'll state, matter of factly, mind you; "in twenty years we will see them do this and that...twenty years later, nothing but the technology' changed CPU, processing speed, and calcs are faster but the robot is still..
...at best, or a cyborg at the least, but not a functional sentient mechanical man, machines are made up of inanimate pieces and when these pieces are put together to make a 6 foot armature with electronics, motors, sensors, and CPU(s) it's still an inanimate object no matter the functions it can perform. you need biology to get a sentient cognitive reasoning. A human brain can control a robotic hand, but a robotic brain can't control a human hand...
To some degree, friend, but still within the limits of the biological...the rest is just analogous to a firgure of speech, so, no maybe we, biologicals, are not truly machines or computers just people fasicnated by the human physiology to metaphorically describe the human "machine" or biological computer
...and no robot on this planet can do this at all...if one wanted to make a robot as conscious as a human, it is the actions of that one [human] that should come to question, if the robot were to run amok and kill it would be the responsibility of it's creator, who'd programmed it, be made to pay. one who works on making a sentient robot will find him/herself moving to biological appendages and after finding that the biological appendages are better he/she will find they've created a human...
...people used to think that if a robot can say, "I think therefore I am" it's make them COGnizant, not true a robot can be programmed to say it, but it still wouldn't have the reasoning to understand what it means, it's hard to make 0's and 1's into thought. A robot would have to exhibit it's consciousness with understanding and reasoning and the only way for a robot to exhibit understanding is with the reasoning two letter word, "OK" and to date there isn't a robot that can do this...
As much as I love robots, I have to say that they would never be as COGnitive as humans, never. Machines being what they are just CPU controlled machines are fast, efficient but most entirely dumb, where humans are quite the opposite...we're slow, in efficient but compared to machines...very smart. Making humans, by definition, smarter than machines machines with CPU's just compute, process, calculate faster, is all and to prove this...
man, that would be cool, give these damn robots guns, and get them to shoot up the whole damn neighborhood, better yet, send them in to fight our wars... lol
Stupid Robot. You don't use a hacksaw to cut wood.

How much wood would a robotchuck chuck if a robotchuck could chuck wood? :)

Finally, after 50 years of AI development, we have built a robot that can cut wood!
AMAZING!

Umm all animals are essentially super complex machines and computers... we just use different materials.

That robot is a fast learner, the last time i saw it, it was as dumb as a fly.
