Does anybody know what's being said at 4:09? I saw it once in some thread, but I didn't write it down and now I can't find it anywhere on the net...someone...please help...or I'll go crazy...
@aironatape It might as well be, but I think it was something else. I don't know. I'll keep on searching or I'l try to figure it out by listening over and over again...
Sweet were a great band, this track is great, reminds me of Pink Floyds One Of These Days and the drum break is reminiscent of Ian Paice on the track Chasing Shadows from the Album Deep Purple.
This tune I've known since late 70's when I purchased "Level Headed" on cassette. This is very different for them. It is a spaced out rendition of "Solveig's Song" by classical composer Grieg from "Peer Gynt".
This is awesome. That's my two cents. Sweet is untouchable in the vibe department. Most underrated. This should have be in constant rotation on classic rock format stations. I had the U.S. Desolation Blvd tape back in the day (Heathen covered Set Me Free) and No You Don't was my favorite track. It still sounds futuristic today. But lately, I've been soaking up everything I can find on YouTube.
The fact all this great music is unknown is criminal. How many bands can I list that took some Sweet?
@TheChugulator I have said before that this was the start of a new era of Sweet music, such a shame Brian's performances begn to diminish thus ending Sweet as we loved it!!
Agree it was a shame what happend to Brian - Level Headed is a great album and in my opinion showed how good and talented each member of the Sweet is/was
Each person have their favorite Sweet Album - I feel each had their unique touch and what pisses me off most is that Sweet never got the respect they deserved at a great band
@aironatape -- props to you for posting this!! Sure, this song isn't as well known as "Love Is Like Oxygen" from the Level Headed album, but it's different in its own way. Almost a blend of ELP/Pink Floyd at some points in the album. I love the cover of the album that was released in the US -- I bought it in 1978 and it is still in my collection today!
i happen to love this whole album. this song in particular. i haven't heard it in years. floyd? maybe, but wasn't that the sound of lots of progressive rock from the 70's. saw sweet once in nyc.....so good!
Not my favoite band, but they had some REALLY GOOD moments; this is one of their best. I wish more bands today would experiment within the confines of what they normally do without fear, like this effort demonstrates.
@aironatape Dude that is so cool of you to be open minded and understanding towards some of the youtube comments..This one doesn't grab me either but what year is this album from..For some reason I'm thinking 76? This is not love is like oxygen album is it..
@dannyhood66 ..as I said, we all have our opinions on music, we cant all like the same stuff, otherwise life would be really mundane and the album is from 1978.
@aironatape That's casual,'' is this the same album that has "love is like oxygen? I don't know for sure but that song "love is like oxygen" doesn't seem like a big favorite among the true early sweet fans? I could be wrong? That song blew me away when i first started listening to music though..
Yay 42 here too. LOVED THIS BAND as a kid in the 70s. Haven't listened for a while though, and thanks to youtube checking it all out again. Loved it in the 70s and love it MORE in 2010!! That's brilliance.
Interesting that some people are comparing this to Pink Floyd because it really reminds me of "Sheep" from the Pink Floyd album "Animals". The bass line is almost identical.
this cut shows the flip side of a coin with a band whose rep for 70s bubblegum seriously stood in the way of this band being viewed as one of substance. some excellent work done here that was direly underrated
my dad's favorite band is sweet, hes got at least 25 different cd's with them, still not all original studioalbums. many "best of sweet"-albums. ive listened to them all through my childhood. i like the off-radio songs the most! like this one an midnight to daylight and many others. to bad that there isnt a proper dvd from an concert from like in the 70's with the original line up playng live. that would be amazing with drumsolo and all!
For those not familiar with The Sweet they had hits such as Fox On The Run, Action, Ballroom Blitz and Hell Raiser. For me their B-Sides and album tracks such as Sweet F.A., Set Me Free, White Mice, Live For Today and this one, Air On A Tape Loop are better. Andy Scott has his version of Sweet going today and Steve Priest also has his version of Sweet going.
I guess if enough "young 'uns" listen to the tracks i've put on and the others that are already on, there will be a new revival of Sweet being listened to!!! Thanks for the comment. Oh, and by the way, most people have heard of Hell Raiser and Ballroom Blitz! Keep rocking!!
As I have said many a time to the younger generation, it's very nice to see that The Sweet are being welcomed to the ears of people of your age and how much of an influence they had on the music of later years!! Stay " Sweet " !!!!!!
Sweet produced many good album tracks that will never be heard on the radio, even many singles will never get any airplay, which is a shame. Well done to the other Youtubers that have put tarcks onto this site.
hey cool song, never heard of these guys before. another "young people" here ;D Thanks for posting it, never would have heard of it if I didnt start your playlist (bob dylan man in me)
This is one of the most beautiful songs of all times, (in my suspected opinion, since I'm just CRAZY for The Sweet). They will never die. I see people of 20 or 18 becoming fans, and feel happy for them. Thank you very much for posting!!!
We love them, We love them, We love them. Why didn't they get their recognition. Paul McCartney said, that the best music comes from, The UK. He is so right. We will love you forever, "THE SWEET". They we're, Incredible!!!
I feel Sweet missed out by a couple of years on becoming huge. When the video era began, sweet were just beginning to fade and with the problems Brian had with his voice, so began the demise of Sweet. Such a shame as I felt they were on the verge of the recognition they richly deserved as they had the talent to continue but maybe with another guitarist and keyboard player just to make them balanced and perform live to a higher standard.
Hey dude...its been like 20 or so years since I heard this track. I used to have the vinyl record but have never updated with cd's...what a cool track I heard more in it just now than I did all those years ago. Im going to get as much Sweet downloads onto my itunes as I can now...much appreciation for your post
Video footage of The Sweet in concert is a rare item, especially of the famous four. The 1973 concert is being digitally remastered but may be some time before it is available and there is footage from 1978 I have seen on ebay but the quality looks to be desired. In fact, a clip is on youtube and I think its restless.
Airontape great post, you seem to know alot about sweet, were they ever filmed live in concert? I mean really live, was this just another bone headed move by managment, would have loved to see one of the tighest bands around perform like on the strung up concert! Thanks
Glad you liked it. Yes it is a great album and if Brian kept off the drink, I think that The Sweet would have gone a long way to being one of the all time greats.
Yes, that was an "adult" song, from the unique and great album! When I've heard this music first time I was like - Wow ?!? Although, they did experiment before with Distinct Lack Of Ancient - the B side of Fever of Love.
Level Headed was, no ARE a great album. I'm still listen to it today. Not to remember my youth. No, to enjoy this great album. The stuff before I don't like anymore. But this album. But if you look how many watch here at Youtube you can see the older stuff are what people remember. To bad.
I must disagree slightly. Level Headed is a brilliant album but some of the earlier work was as good. For instance Sweet Fanny Adams in my eyes (or ears) is as good as Level Headed and for the rocky sound, it is great. Not to detract from what they achieved and everyone has their own favourites but I'm glad you enjoyed the track. Happy listening.
Well personaly I think that records sound better with the crackling of the record spinning- it's just not the same without it, I love feeling like I'm in the 60's even thouhg I was never in the 60s
I remember tripping out to this song when I was younger and totally ripped out of my mind- thanks I havn't heard thins song forever, my record player needs a new needle and elastic
Glad to be of service. I think it one of the best tracks the sweet ever produced. Forget about elastic for the record player, buy a hamster or buy the cd. Happy listening.
Yes, I like it, thanks! One of those that challenged the notions of the potential of this great and versatile band. This is my favorite album they ever did. I still have a bit of a laugh at the contrast between this and a record like Desolation Blvd. Thanks so much for sharing!
I copied another youtubers idea of a picture of an album cover with just the music and thought this would be a suitabe track as I think it is one of The Sweets best tracks and is totally different to what they were associated with. I may do another one soon, even if is for my own gratification!! Thanks for the comment.
When this song came out i thought it was just strange but now that i am 48 i like it very much. :)

the original cover does not look like this "Level Headed" 1978 version.
there originally is a artist close-up of a surreal guitar body at the view of pickups.
