  • hey man!! a huge thank you! i've been looking to play that run at the end since i learned the song a few weeks ago and being a drummer, just don't have the experience to figure this stuff out! you made my day!

  • thanx for that great lesson

  • all i can do is reiterate what the last person said... what an amazing song. thanks man

  • awesome!!!! thank you thank you thank you

  • How do you cause your guitar to have a droning E sound that your speaking? Is it a tuning or how its placed.

  • well done my man

  • Wonderful video & great playing! Thank you!

  • awesome video.. thanks for the note explanation.. its helpful.. with understanding the fretboard and theory..

  • that sounds great. what kind of acoustic is that?

  • your guitar playing is really awesome...you are definitely one of the best acoustic guitarists on YT, and an excellent teacher as well ;)

thx for your vids...they really help me a lot, as a beginner.

  • great video man keep it up

  • very nice

  • What are the notes of the em chord on the fifth fret. I could not find an em on the fifth fret, only 3rd fret and 7th. Thanks.

  • Great vid -- for some reason I am still having a problem matching the strumming pattern to the hammer on. I have been alienating my entire family with the awful sound I have been making -- LOL. Any help?

  • great video man! for some reason im having trouble to get the rhythm together. thanks so much!

  • Don't worry bout the haters. Some of us appreciate the notes and strings :)

Love Dave, and love your tutorials. Thanks!

  • TYVM......my right hand needs work......at least I think thats what the problem is in the beginning.

  • Good video...I play it the same.

  • Very good instructional video! I learned a lot! Thanks!

  • do you know how to play the outro to this song, the one they play live where dave screams?

  • E...G#-A...D...C#

E is a open chord, but the other 3 are played as octaves, using index and pinky. Hope that helps.

  • Great video! I love your no nonsense attitude and when you say something sounds cool i'm literally thinking it just as you are saying it so well done...one little suggestion though: try changing that first F# in the chorus to a D with the F# on the low E instead of the high e (muting the A isn't necessary). Just food for thought, if you don't like it that's all good 2.

  • Thanks so much man, I have been looking everywhere for a decent teaching of the chorus and ending and this really did the trick. Thanks again, possibly a response soon with me playing it.

  • awesome thanks. i like how you don't waste time naming fret numbers.

  • pretty good videos!! thnx

  • I love your vids. I just posted a video response of this song after watching this. I don't think I play it nearly as well as you but hey, who could!

  • are you playing only a few strings or strumming all the way through?

  • your videos are spot on my man, i loved seeing the progression of this song over the summer last year. And of course tim just takes the song to a whole nother level. In a sense im kind of glad butch left the band, i only really liked him on a handful of songs, i think tim is a much better fit for theyre live shows, it enables them to do a lot cooler things. anyways keep up the great work!

  • you should do sugar will, busted stuff, falling off the roof, 34, and kill the king

  • totally lost..but it's nice to see you know what you're doing...you never give fret numbers or figer placement or anything..maybe someone who already knows how to play this can figure it out but I do not...which is why I tried watching this

  • hhhmmmmm I guess a video of the entire guitar neck is not good enough?

  • i mean its totally helpful for positioning but its really hard to make out wat strings are played on what frets

  • are you serious? I'm giving you the notes and strings... what more do you want?

  • the majority of people who look up songs are looking for fret numbers like in tabs. no one goes by note names

  • no one goes by note names? WOW I've been lied too LOL

  • @ravensfan5392 Honestly, if you don't know the names, or even how to look them up, you are too lazy :-( It's 10.000 times easier. Also, I would say for most guitar players, having a basic knowledge of chords, atleast majors, minors and I guess some sus aswell, is the least you can do.

But maybe I undestand your comment wrong. Maybe you are actually looking for tabs for a special reason.

    Anyway awesome video. Helped me.

  • @Amotaraso that is exactly what I meant. Guitar TAB is for books when you CAN NOT see the person playing. Otherwise..... a simple chord name in reference to what you SEE in the video should suffice. If that's not enough then yes... you are either lazy or not up to the level required to play this song. This is my opinion after 20 years of teaching. If poeple don't like it..... find other teacher right? ;)

  • and you don't have to react like that to everyone who tries to offer constructive criticism.

  • an up close view of the entire fretboard isn't any help I guess

  • @ravensfan5392 dunno if you meant me. But I didnt mean to react negative. If I did so, I'm really sorry. Was not my intention atleast.

  • what a great video... i cant wait til Dec. 12 when i get to see One Sweet World live at the Turning Stone. also i would love to see a video on how to play Sugar Will. that would be amazing.

  • i just cant figure it out... but nice video

  • You are great dude, not even great, you sound just like him.

  • I could hang out and listen to you play for hours.... u have great energy and silky talent....

    xoxox

  • I love your videos, darzik. They are helping me re-learn the guitar. Just one question: for the intro, are you barring the 9th fret and simply moving it up and down? I'm trying to barre it, and my fingers just can't do it without muting everything; I'm wondering if it's an issue of dexterity...

  • yes... bar with the index finger :-) Good luck!

  • man...i dont even know how to riff like you are...could you give me some insight how you are riffing...ahhhh i hate not knowing anything...i guess i should just get lessons..

  • I would love to see a video on Lie in our graves or minarets... I cant strum them right.

  • wish i had guitar fingers

  • During the intro what what is you strumming pattern? And on what strokes are you hammering down?

  • check out my strumming video. Strumming is something you have to feel. Close your eyes and feel the beat. Good luck :-)

  • what does he mean when he said "droning" E and A

  • Droning...... when a single tone is played throughout. In this example.... E is played for the first chord section then A for the next :-) Hope that helps

  • thanks dude it did

  • This is fuckin sick. Sounds just as good as the original

  • you have some sick guitar skills anthony!! thank you for posting, you are the F'n man

  • also, yes the version from south africa is amazing!

  • Well my good friend Anthony, I wanted to take moment and thank you for a job well done!

I have to admit that I'm a newcomer to the DMB fan club (don't ask me what took me so long :P), I just recently picked up Live at Radio City and I fell in love with pretty much every songs on the album.

I got myself a new guitar yesterday (yay!) and started learning some of my favorite songs. Your videos really help allot!

Any chances of getting Stay or Leave up there? :P

    Thanks again!

  • it's comments like this that make it all worth while :-)

  • i wish you would sing...thatd be great

  • wow. you did amazing. your rhythms were excatly correct. chord progressions were right. tres bien. ive been tryin to learn this song for awhile but never could get the rhythm right esp the opening riff. this helped. thanks alot.

  • sweet man. i just posted a video of me playing it. you taught me well. thanks

  • omg thats amazing. im gonna try and learn it. thanks for breaking it down :D

  • wow this is really cool! good job

how long did it take you to figure out the whole song?

  • 15 minutes I think......

  • so i've been trying to work out this song by ear and never could. fine job dude....

  • hey man that is great...you should post more vids...great job...thx

  • you have to do falling off the roof now

  • you should do you might die trying and kill the king

  • I've actually been dying to do Break Free and Kill the King but my camera doesn't have a direct input for my Line 6 Variax. I'll work on it :-)

  • Great job dude. you know your chords.

  • can you do Fool to Think next?

  • do a youtube search and you'll see it's been done quite a bit. :-)

  • which taylor do u play?

  • 314ce with ES :-)

  • Fair enough, I know a detailed video would be very long (not that that's necessarily a bad thing), and I realize your vids are probably not intended for beginners, it's just that the only info and advice I've found on it thus far is "keep practicing & it'll come to you", which really doesn't help me. It's the only thing I'm struggling with so I get kind of fired up about it. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. A Dave style vid would be awesome though. :)

  • Just an idea for your future vids, if you could explain the strumming & rhythms a little bit, because sometimes it's tricky to tell what you're doing (for me anyway). But I'm pretty much a novice so I might just have to do some research on my own. Other than that I think your vids are great! :)

  • Hi VMAM, for me to explain every little detail would be a much longer video. Daves strumming patturn I have to say...is pretty simple. I remember reading an article where Dave said his guitar teacher said "Start strumming and don't stop".

  • with that said.... just strum and "feel" the beat. It will come to you. Good luck :-) I might make a "Dave Style" strumming video.... hmmmm

  • That was amazing. Your videos and instruction are perfect. Can we expect another soon?

  • yes... I haven't decided which tune to teach next but I'll keep you posted. Thanks :-)

  • what kind of guitar do u have? and what exact kind of strings do u use?

  • Perfect
