About the drum heads. I've never tried the Pearl mesh heads, but I had a TD-12 for 3 years that I spent a goodamount of time playing, and I never switched heads on any of the drums. So I'm not sure head price is even an issue. Seem to last forever as long as you throw away sticks with split tips. Which leads me to another thing.. I never broke a stick either during that time. I had to throw away sticks because they got bent over time.. Yeah... Coming from acoustics, that was surreal.
@ronnysoeberg The Pearls worked well with the reflection plate design that Alesis used. Roland uses a rod or basket set up with cone and trigger. The Pearl heads wouldn't work in that set up.
I agree that changing out damaged sticks will keep the heads in good shape for a long time.
hey, I'm following your movies a long time, and today it's my birthday! So I'm gonna buy the USB pro kit very soon! Do you recommend me to buy the DM5 pro, the USB pro (with Surges, u have a Hart D., they feel quite the same) or a TD-3 second hand?
the drums for my alesis are kinda screwed up. under the drum head the foam is like wearing away. The middle doesnt have a pad just the black of it. Is there a way to replace those?
I don't know if there are any replacement parts from Alesis but you could CAREFULLY remove the foam (the trigger is in there so don't tear it out) and take it down to an apolstery shop and get the same density of foam. The just put it back together.

If you are going to run the drums through your computer get the USB kit. If you want to just run through headphones or speakers then get the DM5 kit.
The Surge cymbals are different than my Hart D. The Alesis are metal with a clear coating to deaden sound.
I wouldn't buy a TD-3 kit myself. Only because I don't like the rubber pads. The TD-3 module isn't bad but I think the DM5 sounds better.
