@plfarinha American's don't really live close enough to other non-English speaking countries to bother with learning other languages as much. Would it be nice? Sure, especially learning Spanish. They do require you to take a couple years of a foreign language in high school which isn't enough but it isn't like American's live by 3+ other cultures that all speak different languages.
