PFF, in the earlier video, they mentioned that it would be a round they'd never seen before. All they did was take the current events form the general knowledge round from other games and make it a separate category. They obviously wanted Ken to win. Instead, they should've just put the "keyword" round like in the British version. Would've been MUCH better and we would have a closer and more exciting match.
I've seen all the matchups up to this point, and in each one, Ogi always seemed to be a smartass. I'm not sure if he did that just to try and psych out his competition, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to win, but now that Ken made Ogi his "biatch", i'm seriously hoping he can keep that lead. Round 4, here we come...
I'm not trying to show favoritism toward Ogi, but adding a new round just for the final was total bullshit. It was never done in the British version, it was never done in any of the previous episodes in the US, and it gives an unfair advantage to the trivia-strong contestants. Ken still would have won this match without the contemporary knowledge, but that's not the point. Don't change the format.
They need to add an extra round, like when every matchup is 1 win till the very finals where it's best of 3 instead of best of 1, to even it up. Just because he's not good at something doesn't mean adding it isn't fair.
In the original UK version, the bonus round is called Keyword, where it's trivia questions with a particular word in every one. Weird how they changed it like that, huh?
If they didn't announce it before the tournament, you might have a case for the conspiracy. If not, could it just be that Brits like wordplay and Americans like pop culture?
Or it's because they wanted to appeal to an American audience. If you won't entertain any possibilities other than "it's a conspiracy," that's your prerogative, but it doesn't make you right.

Wrong again, because no one I know said they liked the pop culture round better. I don't know where you get off saying pop culture is a preferred category on American game shows, because I don't see it many places.
I'm not generally inclined to let conspiracy nuts lecture me on the importance of supporting my assertions. The guy you have a crush on lost to Ken. Deal with it.
Pop culture is all over the place in game shows. If you don't see it, that's not my problem. My point was that you have NO concrete evidence for any of your wild conspiracy theories, and you're lecturing me because "no one you know" said this or that? Give me a break. Do you have any evidence at all for a fix? Somebody on the show saying they favored Ken? If not, you have no right to tell anyone else that their position is unsupported.
I just said that pop culture shows up all the time on U.S. game shows. I DO have evidence to support my theory. You, on the other hand, seem to think that the mere existence of a pop culture category in a game show proves some sort of conspiracy. You have no evidence for your position at all, yet you disparage others for not not having concrete evidence? Your argument is something like: Ken is better than Ogi at pop culture; therefore, Ken didn't deserve to win.
No, the argument is something like: They changed the bonus round from something perfectly appropriate to something that blatantly favors the favorite contestant for no apparent good reason. Also, good job forming critical "evidence" by stating that pop culture is sometimes a category on game shows.
If you read Ogi's "Grand Slam" profile on the GSN website, you'd know that he expected pop-culture to be his weak point going in, even before he faced Nancy!

So what? Ken Jennings used 31 seconds total in the final round. If they both started with one minute, Ken would've destroyed him.

This is the round I'd get destroyed and ruin whatever I did in the other rounds. I hate pop culture jive.

That's terrible... a new category just for the finals basically kills Ogi. It's almost unfair.

Indeed. Contemporary knowledge apparently isn't Ogi's thing. Of course, how could we have known that until now!

Hey, Ogi can still make a lot of money selling his "cognitive tricks" -if they don't rely too much on raw intelligence.

I think that this is the round that killed Ogi. Separating the general knowledge from contemporary one really finished him here.
