I admire vollies a lot, but I wish the guys in Kentland were more careful... Wearing eye protection during extrication and proper gear at incidents just avoids accidents... Better be safe than sorry
isn't Kentland the ones who have all of those valor awards and just saved some people the other day? They dont blow through stop lights but they do rescue the people who do. All I observed were a great group of dedicated professionals who have a deep respect for the red devil and a devotion to being on the top of their game 24/7
there is a fine line between confident and cocky.....confidence will keep everyone safe and alive while cocky increases the risk of injury and death.....Kentland is cocky, no question bout it.....but that lesson may unfourtunatly be learned in the future...Kentland....please be safe out there and remember you aren't superman and you will do no one any good if you guys get injured or killed be safe brothers
Everyone is worried about safety.. Its a dangerous job, If your worried about Eye Protection, and slowing down.. GO to Prince William County Fire.. Bunch of Pussies, Thats what todays Firefighting is turning into.. A bunch of Pussies

How about slowing down and being SAFE!! Seatbelts,Eye protection,SCBA'S, Proper protective clothing!! Come on guys use your heads!! We don't need any more FF deaths!!!
@jtweller11 whoa they do put on their self contained breathing apparatus no matter what so stop ragging on these guys they are volunteer firefighters you must be talking about the career firefighters go to the battalion.tv and see how they do their stuff and i gaurantee they do things right not like some career firehouses they are on crowded streets like the new york fire department in new york they have to put on sirens when they go to a fire
I am the guy who films the battalion series and yes, these guys are great firefighters but they need to be safe. They sometimes do things as volunteers that they would never do as members of D.C. Fire and EMS, and that is sad and unsafe...drf
Great video. Awesome fire department. Just one thing and i know i have said it before. Please wear Eye protection while extricating! Awesome job guys and wish the best of luck to you all. BTW, i LOVE the Peirce desk chair!!!!!!!!! Slow down driving guys also :) Be Safe,
well, either if paid or vollie, it doesnt matter. we are all professionals in what we do. my praise goes out to kentland for being one of the most active houses in the country, and for being as aggressive as they are. some say their cocky, i saw their confident in their abilities, which is vital in this job. i'm not wanting to correct or scold anyone, for every ff is my brother. god bless
I don't get it with a lot of paid guys. A lot of you use the "paid" and "professional" interchangably. They are NOT the same thing. And it seems like most of you were volunteers at some point, yet it seems the minute you get a paycheck you're become somehow superior, WTF. And I know of at least one paid guy whose life was saved by these guys. In the end we all have the same mission, so can we stop the dick measuring contest!!!
speed is not everything! collective thought will keep you alive in many bad situations, remeber that.. there are no heroes, only people who give a shit about other people... you guys and gals have a remarkable team... nobody will argue that! but, do not lose touch ever with who you all are and why any of us do this kind of work in the first place!... always be safe, my brothers and sisters....
ha ha. sure think alot of themselves. nothing wrong with that. ive been a career firefighter/medic for 15 years. all i see on here is kids playing with big boy toys and talkin alot of smack.
sure, i'll buy that. but heroes dont call themselves heroes either jackass. people like to throw that word around alot. also a big reason they volunteer. to make themselves feel more important than they are. i go to work and do a job, for pay. thats it. just happens to be im a firefighter. there are no heroes, just guys doin a job. oh yeah. did i mention, your my heroe. jackass.
Just my 2 cents but why do paid guys have to say "career ff"? just wondering. I dont tell people im a career medic. Im just a medic. You payed ff are funny with that career crap. you could be 6 months on the job and you will pound your chest saying Im a career ff like you been ff for 20yrs. not trying to be a dick just saying dont pick on volunteers they obviously get a kick out of ff or they wouldnt do it for free.
well, i can only speak for myself. AND i have been a ff for 20 years. in a job that you cannot gain true experience and knowledge without putting time in and call volume. on a large city f.d. where one engine alone runs 3000 times a year. i volunteered for many years before that. i do know the difference. have some respect. why do all volunteers pound thier chest and say " we do the same as you do " . hey we need them, we love them. it is not the same. period.
Well they say their 100% volunteer. And the statistics say that a volunteer FD ussually gets 1 house fire every 3 years. So I think they should become professional
What are u talking about what satatistices are u reading because my volunteer house gets more then 1 ever three years we get like 40 to 60 a year or more look it up!!!!!!!!!!!
My Squad averages 1 MVA; and 2 house-fires a week. But, to answer your question, it could just very well be that the squad itself prefers to have better equipment over being paid. For some people, it isn't about pay, and being paid or not doesn't make you a Professional squad, it's how you act and carry yourself.
Btw Kentland VFD is only 1 company out of many in PG County they most likely send 1-2 pieces of equipment to each call. Kentland may be 100% volunteer but the rest of the county has career stations 46 is mostly career i am pretty sure, and others have career staffing in the mornings till bout 3 or 5pm.
Awesome .. I'd love to spend even a month their .. Let alone 5 years

Great video...but why dont they turn Kentland VFD into a professional FD...They have more house fires than a usual VFD...more MVAs than a VFD.

why? i mean if it's working for them why become paid. All it means is wasting more of PG county's tax money
