  • Each dyno is different depending on environment/calibration and how the car is run etc etc, therefore dyno readings arn't the be all and end all, what really matters is how you put all that power to use xD

  • 240hp 600tq

  • i love u msql. espec. on rx8club.com but to be honest you need to get the esmirl turbo. and throw up a vid and some feed back because im about to buy one.

  • Stock rx8 hp 232 standard

  • @chuco177 its 238hp in stock with 6 speed manual (i have '05 rx-8), i wish they had more torque and this car would b hot all the way, on the track i feel pretty confident!

  • Your a/f is too rich. Try 11.5-11.8 you'll se a huge difference

  • @japakos you sure? for rotary i heard you shouldnt go about 11.2. I'm asking because i have no idea im strictly piston rods lol

  • Why not just get a speed3 or something haha

  • @Enemyofreali7y because thats FWD!!

  • @albaniav3

If all you're doing is racing on the highway and going in a straight line, I see not why it matters. Even in the corners the Speed3 is a beast. Boohoo, it can't do a proper burnout or a doughnut. Tires are expensive anyway.

  • @Enemyofreali7y its a different feeling driving the car when you are being pushed rather than being pulled. you are a ricer so you wouldnt know the difference, go drive a mustang 5.0 and drive your speed3 you will see the difference. front wheel drive cars dont give you the feeling of a sports car even if they have over 500hp where a 168hp dual cam 240sx will give you a sports car feeling because its rwd. trust me

  • @albaniav3

Your conception of "ricer" is a little skewed. I drive AN import. And I've heard this RWD/FWD thing a million times.

  • @Enemyofreali7y if you drive an import you are a ricer regardless of what you drive.

  • @albaniav3

    You are quite the charmer.

STRAIGHT from Urban Dictionary - the most commonly accepted definition of "Ricer" is:

"A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster.".

That being said, I drive an import. That also being said, you drive a CHRYSLER. I don't take advice from you - I'd much rather take advice from someone who could run me in the quarter.

  • sql injection

  • How do you know which PSI to have?

  • this is probably a dumb question, but what is the guage with the digital numbers? hahah

  • @derkaderkaify It is a speedometer, my question is where did he get it. The new Honda Civics have them.

  • @Skaterrocker842 lol i didnt mean the spedo, i ment the OTHER digital guage thats at 10 to 14 the whole time.. but now i know

  • @derkaderkaify Oh that is his boost gauge, and there is another gauge on there that was his boost timer

  • Beauty

  • have u ran it with any Z's

  • I'm going to correct something for you. A 2008 C6 with the LS3 dyno's at way higher than 340rwhp on a dynojet dyno. Try 380-390rwhp. The LS2 C6 dyno's at around 350rwhp.

  • a stock rx8 has the same rwhp as bmw s1000rr......i wonder which one is faster ;)

  • i want to put in an esmirl turbo is my rx8. i was on their site and they had dyno charts of 416whp. at 16psi.. i just dont know if those numbers are anywhere near safe.

  • my mazda rx8 is stock except for the K'N intake typhoon, and a full header back race exaust from turbo xs. 2 NA mods and we dynoed it at 214whp.

  • rx8's are the best cars ever made!

  • sounds good

  • HAAAHAAA you love noobs :p

  • Upgraded internals? or is it an OEM/Reman block?

  • You said 232 hp at the crank. The engine doesn't have a crankshaft. Maybe you should get to know your engine.

Oh fyi - it doesn't have connecting rods either.

  • @DominicRiv

Wankel (rotary) engines do have a crankshaft. That's how the rotors are spun in the engine. That's how power is transferred in every car with an engine.

  • @DominicRiv lool the engine is a 1.3 rotary engine... its obviously gunna have a crankshaft since the engine is basically round

  • @DominicRiv its got an eccentric shaft

  • @DominicRiv

    haha, idiot!

  • hey what turbo kits are those im in the market for one now on my rx8 and i was wondering should i go greddy, or esmeril racing?

  • @schassis Go to turblown's website. I heard they do really good work. $6-8k (I believe) but good, safe turboing. They say they can get you up to 400-500hp (crank) on a stock reny (with other systems like meth injection, etc)

  • haha love the in-video comments

  • I got a rx8, thinking of getting a turbo maybe. At 8psi will I be much faster in straight lines? I wanna now the 1/4 miles

  • Hey tryannical ,

What are you using to measure your WHP and TQ?

  • @chikafreak dynojet. See other videos :)

  • @tyrannical just 6 psi of turbo pressure and from 180 it go up to 254? wow... power from a rotor!

  • @elchicoboy yea the rotor makes lots of power from FI but its seals are just so sensitive

  • why do you shift so early? Rotories are usually shifted at around 8.5

  • @Shadow1986 probably because he was on a public road

  • @Shadow1986 The Rx 8 is great it tells you when to shift by beeping

  • How much did this turbo cost you? overall labor, tune, dyno?

  • I love the turbo whistle.

  • I nearly FEINTED when he hit boost and let off. WOW

  • nice care dude

  • Lool at the comments and the end comment of your vid :)

just dont think alot of noobs reactions ;)

very nice vid and car. keep it up.

  • how much boost do you run on a daily basis?

  • @lchivy In the past it was 9 psi. Later on it was 12. The difference from 9 to 12 is substantial. I've gone as high as 14.

  • @tyrannical okay sweet. what kind of mods did you have before you started boosting it?

  • @tyrannical okay sweet. what kind of mods did you have before you ran a turbo?

  • @tyrannical

wow shortshift from hell......buy a domestic....thats a shame to the rotary engine.

  • that last bov sounds a lot like mine that I have in my lancer evolution... im making 411 awhp from the mustang dyno on my 08 GSR... is that a recirc bov?

  • man you are way too rich for this kind of boost

  • they all seem sloooooow....

  • I believe I heard a radar detector at the end ;)

  • gotta love hearing that rotary engine scream!

  • How much does a turbo setup for an Rx8 usually cost, including the installation and ecu tuning?

  • Hey man,, I love your car, and I'm thinking about getting an 8 soon, but I have a couple of questions: First off, What's your 0-60 time, and 1/4 mile time? Have you driven around any tracks, and if you did what was your time? What year and trim is the cheapest, but still gets 232bhp? nd finally What would be a reasonable price for that 8? Thank you so much for your time, and for making Youtube a better place. None of that "stickers add hp" shit. =P

  • Nice car though I love it

  • There's something called redline. Redline in rotaries is a must reach... So yeah, get to the fucking red line once in a while so we can hear it better..

  • how much is a 3071R turbo system? and what other mods did you do before installing that 3071R turbo?

  • Comment removed

  • your wheel air pressure sensor was on. also did you get a bolt on, or did you buy individual parts?

  • I'm about to get a RX8, and I'm considering about selling my jet ski and buying a turbo, anyone have any links they can give me for kits, and how much do you think I'm looking to spend.

  • @GR3C0C I own an rx8 ( 6 spd manual GT Shinka) It's lovely, but i just wrecked it. :( anyways, a good turbo will run you 3-5K. I'd recommend GreDDy if any of them. And I seriously mean that. By the way, dont mess around with PSI too much, because Rotaries can't handle a lot. I see a lot of dumbasses fry their engines because they're like "look at me, 14psi, 300WHP" *boom* bye bye engine. These cars aren't really ment to be upgraded too much. They're fast enough in my opinion, if you drive stick.

  • @GR3C0C pettit racing.com

  • wow... people seriously don't know the difference between HP @ the crank and WHP? Sad nerds.

  • dam turbo sounds good!

  • Why don't you just learn how to use BHP and WHP. DONE.

  • how much boost can you run safely with stock???

  • I think you get a bit more wheel hp, I thought typical loss was about 14%. 14% of 232 is about 32 exactly, so making about 200 even at the wheels?

  • @buddywilson74 No one makes 200whp with a stock RX-8 on a wheel dyno.

  • @tyrannical I make 202whp stock. The wankel's are really unpredictable out of the factory. A friend of mine got 173 and was so pissed off at the difference he bought a turbo so he could beat me.

  • @buddywilson74 Is that a product of the RX-8 specifically? Something about the rotary engine perhaps? Just curious, thanks.

  • @buddywilson74 you're looking at about 18-22% avg for a standard trans, and 20-24% for an auto. these are averages recorded by SAE

  • hahahaha damn you noobs!

  • what is premixing?

  • good comparison rx8 are nice too bad theyre a bitch to maintain =[

  • @enterdan It's a Japanese car. Besides premixing, I really haven't done anything special with mine. Change the oil every 3k miles... there isn't even a timing belt on a rotary

  • @tyrannical its true that they're a Japanese car, but its just known to be hard at fixing it, i dont know, a lot of buddies of mine that have rotary engine have been getting bad lucks with their engine, either it crapped out, or the parts/labor are just way too expensive... but you have a really nice car no doubt on that

  • @enterdan It's a very simple engine. I bought all new housings, seals, gaskets, etc. Basically replaced everything but the rotors, and it barely cost me more than $2,000. Meanwhile if my VW TDI's engine blows up, I'd be looking at many times more in parts. Everything about the rotary is simple, the design and the way it works. Only way I can see someone complaining about it is if they don't know how it works, or if they expect great fuel economy from it. :)

  • @tyrannical oo sweet, i guess theres not much problem for u then, im not a rotary expert but if u can work with it, thats great

  • have you punched in 16 psi?

also tyrannical if you had about 7,000 more dollars would have thrown in a supercharger? from what i read they benefiet the rx8 more than the turbo at only 6 psi

  • @phantomZ400 A supercharger is not the answer for a rotary. First of all, a rotary engine generates a huge amount of exhaust. It is the ideal motor to turbocharge. Secondly, a supercharger has parasitic loss, while a turbocharger is using wasted energy. Because of this, you will never see a supercharger making more power than a turbo when all things are equal. My final comment is that PSI is meaningless. 6 psi on the greddy turbo vs 6 psi on a 3071r will result with over 60 whp difference.

  • @tyrannical i see. i saw some numbers and some vids of a ss rx8 pushin the same whp power difference as the turbo however you do mention when all things are equal so those numbers could be flawed from an equal standpiont

  • @phantomZ400 It gets even worse when you overlay a 300 whp supercharger dyno on top of a 300 whp turbo dyno chart. Peak hp can be extremely misleading. The "area under the curve" on a turbo will be much greater, so you'll find the 300 whp turbo making 40-60 more torque across the entire powerband, while starting earlier too!

  • @tyrannical didnt even use the 9000 rpm ??

  • Good video, fantastic tone. Hope mine gets to this point some day. :P

  • Hi all, I've just bought a brand new RX8 GT here in Sydney 2 months ago, I'd like to tune it, what is the best cost vs outcome option, would you say chip, tune, turbo or something else I might have missed? Mines a 232BHP manual version. Also any idea on approx cost? Thanks

  • he right, rotaries need the best fuel to perform well... what kind of 13b did the 04 rx8 has compared to the 40th anniversary rx8? any1 can tell me that bcuz i own the 04

  • Pport it

    cam it

    race it

  • Where did you buy the turbo? How hard is it to install?

  • lol nice car

  • I wish rx8's where a lot faster stock. My stock mazdaspeed 3 with intake made 262hp / 287tq on a dyno jet. Its not as nice though

  • @b00b00 i have 1 too with an intake and you're making about 4 hp more than my setup, so it's a pretty damn quick car :-)....but if u think about it, 232 is PHENOMENAL from 1.3 liters; torque is pretty unimpressive at 159 ft lbs though

  • @DAILL2DEF Yea the MS# is fast for what it is. Spanks my old 350z like crazy. I wanna dyno again since I have the cobb AP, Cobb TIP, forge bpv, new filter, and 1 step colder plugs.

  • @DAILL2DEF How is the torque unimpressive at 159 ft-lbs from a 1.3L? There are 2+L Honda engines that don't make that much torque.

  • @DAILL2DEF

Low displacement engines don't make a lot of torque, and the 13B-MSP makes quite a lot of torque for an engine with such low displacement. A Honda K20 engine makes anywhere from 140 to 160 lb-ft of torque depending on the engine; a B18 makes anywhere from 120 to 130 lb-ft of torque.

  • how can i tell what configuration my rx8 engine is.weather or not its a 6 port or other configs ?

  • Rough estimate, how much money did you spend on upgrades for yours? I'm kinda shopping around for parts

  • Haha... "Damn you noobs..."

  • does the red line of the engine drop with the turbo or did you just not want to go all out

  • Ok so i know im gonna sound dumb but im gonna ask it anyways... my question is, "what is that whistling noise when shift up, at 0:42 is an example...? is it the turbocharger?

  • What is the torque at 16 psi and are you having heat management problems at all at that level?

  • i like the fact that you showed everyone up with the captions haha nice vid, good job

  • What kind of supporting mods do these things need with a turbo? Thats a pretty big fucking change almost doubling stock hp at 16psi

  • @deddjay Not much needed to be upgraded. At least nothing in the engine. You would want to make sure your ignition coils can handle it (We like to upgrade to the BHR coils which are the same stuff vette guys run). If you really push it, you might want to do meth injection too. Really it boils down to making sure your tune is good, and everything is installed properly. Nothing worse than your wastegate vacuum tube popping off.

  • @tyrannical Wow. I didn't think a Renesis could take to turbocharging so well. What's the octane level of the fuel you're using in it now? Normally rotaries see no benefit from more octane but is that part of the reason for minimal supporting mods? It's got a 10:1 compression ratio after all.

  • @Nateb123 The renesis requires premium fuel from the factory. If you put in lower, the ignition timing will be pulled back.

  • @tyrannical Lol. Can you tell I'm used to working with FCs and FDs? Thanks for clearing that up.

  • You've got the six port but only 180 whp? That's over 50 horses lost. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems like an excessive amount of power lost for a manual transmission! Are you sure that's what it really was?

  • @AwesomeMcTasty 180 wheel horse power is typical for a stock RX-8. Google for yourself. Car makers quote crank hp.

  • I guess you're right, it just seems like ~24% horsepower loss is really high for some reason...

  • I'm not so sure it's 24% loss. Remember when the RX-8 was first released, Mazda said it had 240 hp. They settled and offered to buy back anyone's RX-8 which was purchased during that time period. They scaled it back to 232 or so, but even then I have my doubts. It doesn't matter, figure anywhere from 180 to 190 whp on a stock RX-8, if you do a ton of NA mods, you MIGHT be able to hit 200, or even 210 if you're lucky. When you go turbo, well, it goes from fast looking to being just fast.

  • us noobs have to learn somewhere lmao

  • It would of been nice if u raced something in this vid. im just not seeing or getting that feeling that with a turbo your car is pulling any harder. maybe its because you make all your power and torque up top is the reason.... i dont know. it just would be nice if u took it down the track or something

  • Where did you get your turbo? What is the advantage of running less psi?

  • What is the advantage of running less psi?

ANS: Fuken thing wont blow up as fast!

  • @taylorc1448 i would agree if i wasnt a retard, although they only make like 180 whp they have a better power to weight ratio, plus the 9,000k redline

  • yeah but I had a rx8 6 speed and without the turbo they just dont give you the kick in the pants powersurge you hope for. I loved my girl in everyway but rx8s need a turbo seriously

  • @adamuchan Yeah i agree. i dont own one but my good friend does and ive drivin it numerous times. He was told its a Special Edition GT? i never knew bout them but it has 278 instead of 258, but i could still probably beat him in my Acura TL. They are very nice cars though, so easy to drive.

  • for sure with your acura i would agree youd give him a run. I kind of wonder if Mazda made a mistake calling it an "RX8" I certainly bought it with the mental mindset that I was buying the successor to the RX7, but you would have to say the RX8 seems to be an alternative to the MX5 in its intentions, and if thats the case maybe I expected too much when I bought it. It is a beautiful package overall, but GIVE ME A TURBO! ;)

  • Comment removed

  • I thought that too then when i started kinda reading about them i really was bitter towards them because there was alot of hype about them but it clearly was not the successor to the RX7. After driving them though, they are very nice cars, easy aswell as very fun to drive but i would probably change the name to MX8 lol

  • maybe you should do a double take because you sound pretty retarded, why don't you up load a video of your "rice killer" then start talking shit

  • i didnt know they made turbos for rx 8s

  • what do you mean you can turbo any car? I wasnt stock

  • you can make a turbo for damn near anything

  • Nice video!!! Ive always been a RX-8 fan and your videos are awesome at showing all the performance upgrades for the Rx-8 and all the performance stats for the certain parts.

  • @taylorc1448 16 psi makes 400 whp. Which is more than a vette (rated at 400 crank). And the RX8 weighs less than a vette. What's your point again?

  • haha bang! right in his teeth

  • @tyrannical I 400 hp RX-8 would be like a 550hp vette... give or take a few.

  • Hey, Man I'm thinking about getting this car and I wanted to know if (in all honesty please) you have had any problems AT ALL from when you turbocharged the car 'till now? and What turbo kit it was that you installed the car?

  • did you build this kit yourself with al a carte parts or was it in one package you can buy together? and how much re-working of the computer was needed?

    p.s. this car is amazing

  • I baught this kit and let me tell you it is not weak! this video doesnt justify what it does to the car.. 6 psi seems weak and so does 9 psi..... 6 psi i got 260hp and 205 TQ... i didnt dyno at 9 psi but it makes 6 psi seem soooooo slow.. i believe i could easily outrun some camaro SS's transams Ws's. Great car Jason.

  • @chinhido350z1 What exactly are you listening for? You can't really hear the turbo at all. At most you hear the bov or some intake sucking sounds.

  • 180hp? i thought it had like 230 something or so?

that means a turbo 2 can walk on one of those things

  • @buhrrito whp = wheel horse power not to the crank.

  • @fragmite

damn. . . so mazda lies to you? D:

  • @buhrrito how has mazda lied to me when im just pointing out your idiotic mistake? Learn something about cars then talk back :)

  • @fragmite i know something about cars lol. i have an rx7. im doing a turbo swap with new apex seals and shit. keep an eye out for my next vid.

  • lol im guessing you got a fc or a fbon craigslist. I really don't care what you do with your engine. you still don't know jack. Don't try wikipedia, it aint right :).

  • whp... not bhp

  • Comment removed

  • I hate it when morons comment without knowing what they're talking about. The stock RX-8 rated by mazda at 230 hp makes at the rear wheels anywhere from 170 to 190 whp. With a catless midpipe, tuned fuel maps, lightweight flywheel/clutch, etc. You can make 200. But no way a stock RX-8 will make 200 at the rear wheels.

  • yeah see alaska450r 1 - apo6 0

haha, jk. just one more thing hows the daly drivability of the car now

  • i have a 2010 Rx8 straight from the dealer i want to get a turbo. I believe there are 2 or 3 out there. The crap one and the Greedy and some other i think. Any others you may know of?

  • Lot of hate for the SRT4...probably because it makes some torque and doesn't cost 30 grand. RX8 definitely a better lookin car though.

  • Hey i gota question .

Whats a good start or a good turbo for my 04 rx8?

please lmk because i wanna boost mine just its my first time working on a rotary im not so sure.

  • What's your power goal?

  • SRT4 is garbage hahaha they fail so many problems with them hahaha again SRT4 is jus straight up trash i have an rx8 and the SRT4s suck so bad gah i'm sorry for those who have one dont worry itll be ok hahaha jk no it wont ;P

  • I had a SRT4 and it my drivetrain was built solid. Never had any problems with it. It ran 13.2 with 4 boltons. I sold it and bought an 05 rx8. for all out racing, I loved my srt4 more than my rx8 but each has its own purpose. rx8 for turns, srt for whooping on mustang gt's and people who called it a stupid neon until i beat them. =)

  • Love that sound!

  • dude this rx8 is bad ass neone who thinks a peice of shit srt4 is even close to as good as this is a fukn douchebag have fun with ur gay ass front wheel drive car gay ass bitch

  • Lol neon fails and always will xD

  • Dude let's see your srt4 do that with 1.3 liters of engine.

  • that's it? rx8, what a waste of money! my srt-4 pushed 250 to the wheels stock and when i did a turbo upgrade i was pushing 400hp to the wheels @ stock boost! look up rippmods and it's the red/black srt on the dyno!

  • lol. You drive a SRT-4. Have fun with your neon. I only need 16 psi to make 400 whp.

  • Given all the upgrades, that is a comparatively low amount of power made. :/

  • No matter what, it's still only 9 psi of boost. With that much air, you will get somewhere around 300 whp. If you jack it up to 14 or 16 psi, you will get 400 whp. This isn't rocket science.

  • No no, I meant HIS car. With his K20A3 with stock internals but then also turbo, injectors, pump, and about a thousand other things. e_e

For that kind of money, most other cars would be making much more power.

  • I love how the car is so tame, even when its driving around at 4 -5k rpms, I wish it was like that with my v8 :(
